[cobirds] Acorn Woodpecker revisited, El Paso

2014-12-21 Thread 'Martin Wolf' via Colorado Birds
Hey, Cobirders,

During the Colorado Springs CBC yesterday in the N. Cheyenne Canyon section we
had the unexpected discovery of the presumed return of the female acorn
woodpecker from two years ago. Same area as Dec. 2012: on Cheyenne Blvd, 1804
in particular (lots of side-yard feeders, lots of Christmas inflatables--more
than previously), but also in adjacent yards. Generally across from Sacred
Grounds coffee shop, within the semicircular Willow Circle environs but also
back forth across Cheyenne Blvd.

Good Birding into the New Year,

[cobirds] What if you could see the sound of a nightingale? | EarthSky

2014-09-03 Thread 'Martin Wolf' via Colorado Birds
Doesn't attempt the accuracy of any old sonogram or even a qualitative quick
three beers, but a bit more fun clever... A splicing of visual traits with
aural ( lots of imagination!)

[cobirds] Interesting article about migrating hybrids

2014-08-02 Thread 'Martin Wolf' via Colorado Birds
Results from this article about migratory pathways of hybrids vs subspecies
(such as for Swainson's thrush) may be of interest for some of us as Coloradans.

[cobirds] Identify 500 birds with new Birdsnap app

2014-05-31 Thread 'Martin Wolf' via Colorado Birds
Cobirders,

Technology gets more more useful--or scary? I don't have an iPhone, but those
who do, have a free opportunity to see how good or bad this latest iteration
may be... Take a picture of your bird sighting with your phone and get an ID!
Getting the pic with an iPhone may be the hardest part, tho I guess some do
that thru a scope... Will we be flooded with false IDs? Or will this end all
ID-debates? They're working on incorporating vocalizations into a future
version--and talking about incorporating the whole app into smart-binocs. Who
needs a brain?
