[cobirds] Hurricane Hilary rarity potential

2023-08-19 Thread Ben S

Hey all, Hurricane Hilary is supposed to hit southern California on Monday,
bringing a tropical storm to southern California and massive rainfall to
the southwestern region. First, I want to say I wish the best for the
people in the region impacted. It is supposed to significantly impact
weather in California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. I am by no means a
hurricane, pelagic bird, or weather expert, far from. However, I know
hurricanes in the past have brought things like storm-petrels and other
pelagics into southern Arizona and New Mexico. Furthermore, tropical storms
in California are exceptionally rare, and this storm will go significantly
inland in a northeastern direction (possibly pushing birds to Colorado).
I'm going to go on a whim here and suggest that this would possibly bring
potential for things like pelagics and southwestern species, possibly state
records. Just a thought, next week, particularly Tuesday and Wednesday,
might a good time to bird, especially in the southwestern part of the
state. People who are more knowledgeable about weather and rarities feel
free to elaborate, but I just to put it on people's radar as it hasn't been
mentioned yet. Who knows, maybe, just maybe, we'll finally get our long
awaited Heermann's Gull, or maybe something even crazier.

[cobirds] Red-shouldered Hawk Kit Carson

2022-09-14 Thread Ben S
Hi all,
I went to Flagler SWA this morning and had an immature Red-shouldered Hawk
below the dam. I was able to get a decent view and photo before it flew
off. Given the two (possibly three?) immature Red-shouldered Hawks still at
Jumbo, the sighting in Yuma county a few days ago, and this sighting, this
is the fourth sighting in Colorado this month. Although the Kit Carson bird
and Yuma bird could concievably be the same bird, the birds at Jumbo appear
to be continuing, so there are likely at least three individuals in
Colorado right now. It is strange that this species is usually seen once
every couple of years or so in Colorado, but at least three have been seen
so far in this month alone. Also, all of the reported birds have been
immature. Keep an eye out for Red-shouldered Hawks elsewhere!

Here is my checklist with a photo:
https://ebird.org/checklist/S118748708

Hello Sally,
Looking at the birds dark brown plumage throughout the torso, lack of any
green on the head, and other features. Most Mexican Ducks in the US have
hybrid genes, however this one looks closer to the pure Mexican Duck side

[cobirds] Nebraska/Indiana Common Crane

2021-03-23 Thread Ben S
Hello all,
A Common Crane was seen by several people outside of Kearney, Nebraska on
the 20th and 21st (a couple people reported 2!). It may be the same bird
that was seen Indiana a couple of weeks ago. I was hesitant to post, I know
we don't want posts about birds outside of Colorado unless they have
something to do with Colorado birding. I decided to post because if they
were to follow the direction they seem to be heading in (Indiana to
Nebraska), they would hit Colorado. Many people might not have heard about
it, and due to the fact it appears they have just left Kearney, there is a
possibility they could come here within several days. I suggest people keep
an eye out while birding over the next few days, I know I will be!

[cobirds] Re: Birding Oklahoma

2020-12-26 Thread Ben S
Hello John,

Keep in mind I've only spend a couple days birding in OK. Sooner Lake on
the west side of the lake is one of the most relaible. It is where I got my
Smith's Longspurs. They tend to stay in the grass though, so not easy to
see at first. LeConte's Sparrows are there as well, usually in cattails,
also tends to stay in vegetation. Apparently there are some spots where
they get Smith's Longspurs just outside of Oklahoma City, but we didn't see
them there. They tend to want to keep most of the activity on here about
Colorado birds, but I would be happy to give you information about a couple
other spots via email.

[cobirds] Re: Boulder Reservoir closure

2020-09-02 Thread Ben S
Hi Joyce,
The sparrow doesn't appear to have been seen since the 31st in the morning.
Personally, I've tried four times, but I guess now this is a nail in the
coffin of this continueing rarity, which is unfortunate. The sparrow area
appears to be closed because it's near the shore, however, Boulder
Reservoir's website says the main north trail is still open. But on the
hopeful side, due to the drainage, there is potential for a large number of
shorebirds (which should we visible from the still open trail), maybe even
some rarities!

Thank you for the update on Prewitt, Dave!
Along with the Buff-breasted at Jackson, this makes three Buff-breasted so
far! Add in Pablo Quezada's Ruddy Turnstone at Jackson and the Short-billed
Dowitcher found by Luke Pheneger, the Bushongs, and David Dowell at
Prewitt, it looks like it will be a great shorebird season, just as this

[cobirds] Re: Big Lake Day

2020-08-09 Thread Ben S
Hi Gary,
I don't know if you are trying for a big day type of thing but I think
hitting the trees around the picnic shelter at the smoky hill area would be
worth it for Townsend's Warbler and maybe other warblers (Orange-crowned,
possibly eastern ones). I don't know if the picnic area at 12 mile parking
lot is near your planned route but it may be worth a shot for migrants, as
well as rails in the cattails nearby. Keep an out for Cassin's Vireo - very
nice bird that will be coming through by then. As for where to start, the
only owls I've had around this time of year there are Great Horned, which
could be seen at any part of the park. I think starting at the east side
may be better because migrating warblers seem to be more sensitive to time
of day than waterbirds (which marina is good for). Anyway, good luck!

Yeah, I don't see any recent reports from Stewart's Pond. I personally
don't feel comfortable birding that hotspot either because it is only
viewable from the county road and there is a residence directly between the
county road and the pond. If you were hoping to see a Mexican Duck, one was
reported by someone recently, on the 17th at Fountain Creek Regional Park
in Colorado Springs! They included photos, and it sees legit. They are a
really nice bird.

Hello, respectfully, my interpretation is traveling to a different region of
Colorado is completely allowed, granted it is by oneself and you keep distance
between anyone you encounter. Obviously, out of state birding is risky and not
recommended at this point. States are considering border closures which would
make interstate travel impossible anyway. But I'm pretty sure your allowed to
travel anywhere within Colorado (except I believe Gunnison county's borders are
closed), just put distance between yourself and others. I think day trips are
recommended though. Hotels and campgrounds are mostly closed and would be a
risk of acquiring/spreading the virus.

[cobirds] Sapsucker holes, Sterne Park (Arapahoe county)

2020-01-07 Thread Ben S
Hi all-
Birded Sterne Park hoping for perhaps Wood Duck to add to my year list (no
luck). However, the park has several Austrian Pines, and they were covered in
sap wells. Due to the size, amount, and spacing, it is the unmistakable work of
a sapsucker. I think it being the metro area in winter, Yellow bellied is the
most likely. Nothing big, I just wanted to share because in CO Yellow billed
Sapsuckers are always a bit of a treat, but, also, since I was unable to find
the actual bird, I wanted anyone who birds this park to be on the lookout.

[cobirds] Likely Yellow-billed Loon, Cherry Creek SP (Arapahoe)

2019-11-08 Thread Ben S
Hi all,
This afternoon around 4 PM, I saw a Mew Gull and possible Yellow-billed
Loon from Cherry Creek's Lake Loop. The Mew Gull was swimming about halfway
between the east shades and lake loop. It was at least a fourth mile from
where I was standing, hence the quality of the photo. It was a small larus
gull, its mantle was slightly darker than a Ring-billed Gull, its head was
dainty and rounded, and it had a tiny and stubby bill. The loon was similar
in size and shape to a Common Loon, including a very large bill. However,
this bird had pale yellowish bill, no dark anywhere on the bill visible. It
had a pale face, with no distinct eyering. Also, its back and neck was pale
for a loon, almost brownish. It was swimming near the Mew Gull not too far
from the east shades, but swam south to the south central part of the
reservoir. I have several photos of this bird. I think they show the field
marks, even though they are blurry. Please take a look at my ebird
checklist, as I am having trouble uploading photos here. Any feedback on
the Mew Gull or Yellow-billed Loon is appreciated. Here is my ebird
checklist where photos can be seen : https://ebird.org/checklist/S61282012.

Re: [cobirds] What's the deal on this rare Red-flanked Bluetail in nearby Wyoming?

2019-11-05 Thread Ben S
I went up to Laramie today to try for the Red-flanked Bluetail around 1 pm. No
luck. While driving through the spot it was reported, I saw a couple of
birders. Asked them if they had any luck, they hadn't. I went to look for a
good parking spot. No luck on that. I am driving back through and I see police
talking to some people. Now I don't know this for sure, but I assumed one of
the neighbors was suspicious of all the people with binos and cameras and
called the police. Not wanting to be part of whatever was going on, and since
the bird was nowhere to be seen, I decided to accept my loss and head back
toward Colorado. I stopped at Turtle Rock on my way back to Colorado. Most
notable birds were eight Clark's Nutcrackers and a Golden crowned Kinglet. As
for the Red-flanked Bluetail, I think it was a one day wonder. Apparently the
Farralone Islands, California, had one on November 3rd. Probably not the same
bird. This may be wishful thinking, but maybe we should keep an eye out for one
here in Colorado for the next couple weeks!

Certainly nothing rare but a nice suprise today was a female Hooded Merganser
with three chicks today on the river in the Northern Wildlife area of South
Platte Park. This species appears to be a bit of an unusual nester in Colorado,
and apparently has not been known to nest in the park. Other species of note
include several Common Mergansers still around (apparently they nested within
the park last summer), Ospreys, Turkey Vultures, possible Broad-winged Hawk
(distant photos that I have to check, could be "just" a Red-tail, a Raven,
hundreds of swallows (Violet-Green the most common), Blue gray Gnatcatchers,
Bullock's Oriole, Lark Sparrow, Vesper Sparrow, and Yellow Warblers.

[cobirds] Possible White-Winged Dove -- South Platte Park, Arapahoe County

2019-02-16 Thread Ben S
Hi all -
While walking into the nature center at South Platte Park for the Winter
Waterfowl Census, I noticed a dove fly over. I saw it only from the underside
and briefly, nowhere near enough time to get a photo. I noticed it was not
large (some Collared Doves get pretty big), it had a white tipped tail (like a
Collared Dove or White-winged, unlike Mourning Dove). It also had a thin,
dainty neck and head (like Mourning or White winged, unlike Collared). I just
wanted to give anyone birding there a heads up on a possible White winged Dove.
Based on the description, does it sound like it could be a White winged Dove?

[cobirds] Re: Magpie Musings & Questions - Denver / Arapahoe

2019-01-28 Thread Ben S
Hi Jared and all.

I also notice magpies relatively absent from central Denver. Currently, I
go to college at Auraria Campus (next to downtown) going on my second
semester. There are some open areas and some nice trees. During migration
I've had some nice migrants like Clay-colored Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, and
Wilson's Warbler. However, the campus has virtually no birds in the winter.
But, I have had Yellow-rumpeds there this winter, including this morning.
What's missing? Magpies. No reports from the "Auraria Campus" hotspot on
ebird.

However, as far as Blue Jays vs Magpies in my yard, I've had the opposite
expierence. Blue Jays are seen in multiple numbers every day I watch.
However, magpies are uncommonly seen in my yard. I have seen them year
round, however, rarely in the summer. They seem to be a winter visitor in
my yard for whatever reason.

[cobirds] Hawk sp (possible Harris's?) Big Stratton Reservoir, Colorado Springs

2018-12-17 Thread Ben S
Hi all,

First to be clear, I DID NOT see this bird. Someone had seen this hawk and
posted it on the Colorado Field Ornithologists Facebook page, asking for
the ID. I happened to see the post and thought it looked possibly like a
Harris's Hawk. They had seen it at Big Stratton Reservoir, in Colorado
Springs. The bird is clearly a slender, mostly black buteo-type Hawk. The
yellow bill, rufous on chest, and white on tail had me thinking it is a
possible Harris's Hawk. The only other bird I can think of is dark morph
Red-tail. The photo was taken with a cell phone. If it looks plausible for
a Harris's, it may be worthwhile for one of you CO Springs birders to check
it out. If it does turn out to be a Red-tailed Hawk, I apologize for the
false alarm. What do you all think about the ID?

Pink-footed Goose was present along ice edge w/ Cackling Geese on lake
closest to CR 7. The bird was resting w/ its head tucked in most of the
time, but it swam and walked around, revealing its namesake legs, before
flying off. Torso colored like Cackling, but browner, with white stripe on
edge of wing. Black bill with pink on it, bright pink legs. Apparently the
closest other records are in Washington and Pennsylvania. At least a couple
dozen birders were there. The bird was present from 7:40 when I arrived
until about 8:30 when it flew south with many Cacklers. Yes, make sure not
to block the road, gates, driveways, etc, when parking. But also, CR 7 is a
fast road; and in order to see the Pink-footed Goose birders must watch
from right next to the road, I don't want anyone getting hit. Everyone be
careful of cars for their own safety.

[cobirds] Re: Musings on Tyrants (no new sightings)

2018-11-04 Thread Ben S
With how much the Fork-tailed Flycatched moved around (n. Larimer County to
Casper, Casper to Boulder County), I'm keeping my eyes open. The bird must
have flown very fast. The spot in Casper he was seen is about 200 miles
from Lafeyette, and it traveled there in three weeks. Therefore, I say he
(or she) could be anywhere in a 200 mile (or more) radius of Lafayette.
This is most of Colorado. Suffice to say, I'm keeping my eyes open.
Apparently we have a Thick-billed Kingbird record from 1992. North Dakota
just got their first a couple weeks ago, maybe we're do for another one.
Also, Gray Kingbirds have been seen as far inland as Michigan, Illinois,
Missouri, and Arkansas. It may be stretching it, but maybe we'll get it in
Colorado sometime.

[cobirds] Sanderling - Cherry Creek SP

2018-10-05 Thread Ben S
Hi all - I found a SANDERLING at about 3 PM at the NW corner of the reservoir
at Cherry Creek SP. It will be posted on ebird w photos by tonight. It's at
marina in the muddy area where the shore meets the edge of the dam. Also of
note was an American Pipit (on the dam shore), Hooded Merganser (f/imm -
marina), Green-winged Teals (at Prairie Loop), and two Franklin's Gulls (also
Prairie Loop).

[cobirds] 12 Northern Harrier or Mississippi Kite flyovers Cherry Creek SP.

2018-09-08 Thread Ben S
Hi all -
went to Cherry Creek State Park. Highlights were the continueing immature
Mew Gull at the marina, teal/shoveler quadfecta at the bird observation
platform, and a Pectoral Sandpiper also at the observation platform. A good
day for Barn Swallows, also. In all, I estimate 150, and that is low.
Lastly, there were a group of about 12 hawks flying over Prairie Loop,
heading south. In my scope, they were silhouetted in the evening light, and
size was impossible to judge. However, they were long tailed and had had
somewhat pointed wings; too much so to be a buteo or TV. I think this
narrows it down between the Northern Harriers and Mississippi Kites (sounds
like a football match). I have heard of Mississippi Kites gathering in
large groups. Are Northern Harriers known to gather in groups this size,
and do they migrate in Colorado? Overall, assuming both species are
concivable in Arapahoe County, which species in more consistent with the
hawks' behavior?

[cobirds] Black-crested Titmouse New Mexico 1st record

2017-12-24 Thread Ben S
Hi all,
I was looking through the ebird rarity photos and found out New Mexico
apparently has its first Black-crested Titmouse in Clovis, these last
couple weeks. With the recent Red-breasted Sapsucker (which I hope to go
see!), I was wondering if New Mexico's record for this species could mean
we will eventually get this species. Apparently this species is regular as
close as the Amarillo, TX area. This also seems to go for the Carolina
Chickadee. So I guess we should all just be on the look out next time we
happen to be in the SE corner of Colorado. Just a random thought of mine I
found worth sharing.

wing tips have very little white in between. The winter brownish-dinginess
the head forms a bit of a collar on the nape, and the bill is pale bill a
black tip. The bird in question is in the very center of the three pictures.

[cobirds] West Arapahoe. Co Birding

2017-10-30 Thread Ben S
Golden-crowned Kinglet is a nice find for Arapahoe county! Once I think last
February I walked down Lee Gulch trail trying to stake out the species for the

areas in Arapahoe county with extensive planted conifers. Little Cemetery comes
to mind. I don't know if they've had GC Kinglet there, though. It might be
worth birding parks with conifers in search of these. By the way, I saw your

Hi all -

*Red-breasted
Nuthatch*, as well as three varities of Junco, including a *Slate-colored
Junco*. I have been following the recent reports of Steller's Jays in urban

here daily. No such luck yet.

[cobirds] Jaegar sp. Cherry Creek SP (Arapahoe county)

2017-10-14 Thread Ben S
Hi all -
Went to Cherry Creek Res around 10 AM today. Unfortunatly I didn't see the
Red-necked Grebe, although I didn't see the post about until I got home.
Jaegar was swimming on res near flock of gulls off Lake Loop, seen from
Pelican Pt. Suprisingly, gulls were the ones who attacked it. I moved to
Lake Loop and then Prairie Loop hoping for a closer view. Jaegar moved to
SW side of res then to the dam. Was about ring-billed gull sized, pale
brown torso, darker near tail, yellowish side of neck + some rufous-brown.
Pale bill, dark tip, dark crown. Saw it flying, had white wing patches and
I'm pretty sure light rump patch. Also worth noting were a dozen
Blue-winged Teals, about one hundred Western Grebes, and a male Bufflehead
in bright winter plumage. All the pics I got were digiscopped at high
power, and are really bad. However, I hope these photos confirm it is a
jaegar, and possibly will ID the species. Here is a link to my ebird
checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39917451. Here are the
pics:

[cobirds] Pygmy Nuthatch Centennial (Arapahoe County)

2017-10-07 Thread Ben S
Hi all-
Had six or seven Pygmy Nuthatches in my yard just 10 to 20 minutes ago. Well,
technically never in my yard. They flew over me and into nearby tree. I got a
recording of them and will post it on ebird. The group of Pygmy Nuthatches then
flew down by the stream next to my house and disappeared. The whole thing
happened within a minute. Interestingly, the birds ignored my Douglas fir.
Seems to have been a very good fall for Pygmy Nuthatches in the metro area, I
was waiting for this species to get on my yard list. Also present was a
Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay, that has been here since September 1st, as well as the
second Ruby crowned Kinglet in my yard, high in my Doug fir.

[cobirds] Cherry Creek SP 9/4 (Egret sp.)

2017-09-04 Thread Ben S

Hi all --
went to Cherry Creek SP this morning. Highlights were *Wilson's Warblers*
at smoky hill picnic area; as well as a *Savannah Sparrow*, *Clay-colored
sparrow*, and *Least sandpiper* near Pelican point. Anyway, at the marina,
there were two *Bank Swallows*, both *Ring-billed* and *California Gulls*,
and a *Spotted Sandpiper*. Also twelve *Snowy Egrets* were foraging along
the edge of the dam and on the marina logs. One egret was foraging along
the water's edge adjacent to the dam trail. The bird's bill seemed to be
long and bulky compared to the other egrets'. Its breast and head plumes
seemed shorter and less numerous. The egret was the same size as the
snowies, but definetly seemed thinner and longer-necked. Bird's legs were
mostly submerged, but part above water was black/dark gray. Rarities like
Little Blue Heron and Little Egret crossed my mind. Anyway I would like you
all to check out these pictures and tell me your thoughts. I want to know
if it is "just" a Snowy Egret, or if it is something else. If it is "just"
a snowy, I apologize for a false alarm.

[cobirds] Cherry Creek SP (Green Heron!)

2017-05-23 Thread Ben S
Went to Cherry Creek State Park today. First went to marina. Highlights
include at least forty American White Pelicans, a Violet green Swallow, and
my first of year Western Tanager. One the way back from Cottonwood Creek
Wetlands, I got a Bank Swallow.

At Cottonwood Creek Wetlands, the indisputable highlight is a GREEN HERON.
Because of how uncommonly they are seen around here, I thought it was worth
posting. It flew into a willow just across the road from the model airfield
allowed for good photos!

Okay, so all empids species were flagged. I thought, the last April is a
bit early, but May 7th or so most would not be flagged. I checked and most
empids have already been reported in Colorado this year. As for Hammonds,
this looks like it would be the first for 2017 in Colorado, possibly the
first for April as well. But, going be the picture, it still seems the most

[cobirds] Ketring Park today (empid ID help wanted)

2017-04-30 Thread Ben S
Went to Ketring Park this afternoon. Noteworthy species included a male
Ring-necked Duck, Swainson's Hawk, possible Broad-winged Hawk (only seen
briefly from a distance), likely nesting pair of House Wrens, and two
Myrtle's Yellow-rumped Warblers, and two empidonax flycatchers. I would
greatly appreciate help on the ID soon, thanks to all commentors in advance.

One (pictured below) individual I think I have identified as a Hammond's
Flycatcher. The grayish-green tinge on the back, squarish head shape, long
primary projection, almost all dark bill.

The other individual (pictured below) I am leaning towards Gray Flycatcher.
I say this because of the gray back with only a slight brownish tinge,
definite rounded head, not especially long primary projection, obvious
round light eye ring, and relativly long bill with almost the bottom half
orange and top blackish. I did NOT see it do the commonly cited phoebe-like
tail wagging, but I didn't observe it for too long. Thoughts?

[cobirds] Cherry Creek State Park, Today and Yesterday

2017-04-09 Thread Ben S
Yesterday, April 8, I visited Cherry Creek SP. Birds of note at the marina
include a group of RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, HORNED GREBES, WESTERN
GREBES,CLARKS GREBES, and CALIFORNIA GULL. Two CLARKS GREBES were at the
marina. They were my first of the year. At the Cottonwood Creek Wetlands, there
was the teal trifecta, a pair of BUFFLEHEAD, a SNOWY EGRET, and a BARN SWALLOW.
The Bufflehead pair has been there every visit for the last month or so.
Perhaps they will just breed here instead of going north. The Snowy Egret and
Barn Swallow were both alone and my FOY.

Since I live close by, I also went today. At the Cottonwood Creek Wetlands,
again there was the teal trifecta, the BUFFLEHEAD pair, a pair of RING-NECKED
DUCKS, a GREAT BLUE HERON, the continuing SNOWY EGRET, a BLACK CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON, a WILSONS SNIPE, TREE SWALLOWS, and BARN SWALLOWS. At the 12 mile
area, there was a distant flock of swallows. I was able to make out several
TREE SWALLOWS and an early CLIFF SWALLOW. On my way back, I was surprised to
see a GREAT EGRET flying past the Cottonwood Creek Wetlands. It was too large
to be the snowy. It had am all yellow bill and black legs. A FOY, and an
Arapahoe county bird. Nice.

For these next birds I want to make it VERY clear I did not observe them. Other
birders had submitted them on ebird. Franklin's Gulls and Yellow-headed
Blackbirds had been reported. Someone reported a pair of Eastern Bluebirds
collecting nest material at the "marsh area". I assume this is the Cottonwood
Creek Wetlands. Once in May of 2015 or 2016, I observed a male Eastern Bluebird
here. This report is completely possible. I will probably come back during the
week to look for these three species. I have not checked the BBA. Would Eastern
Bluebirds nesting in Arapahoe county be a first??

[cobirds] Towhee ID help wanted

2017-04-01 Thread Ben S

In my yard in Centennial (Arapahoe County), Spotted Towhees are a regular
bird. A few days back, I noticed a female Spotted Towhee it seemed with an
orange cap. This is the same place that a Green-tailed Towhee would have an
orange cap. It led me to speculate the bird may be a Green-tailed Towhee x
Spotted Towhee hybrid. Anyway, the bird came back today. It seems to have
paired with a pure male Spotted, as they are always seen together. Adding
to the possibility, I have had several Green-tailed Towhees in my yard in
May as well as in the fall. Anyway, I noticed she was noticibly smaller
than the definite pure spotted. The orange cap, again was obvious. The bird
was lighter gray than the male, probably just gender dimorphism, but I
don't know. I looked through my field guides. Female Spotted definetly
should not have a orange cap. However, one field guide depicted an immature
Spotted Towhee as having an orange cap. If this is a hybrid, I'm thinking
it is like one part Green-tailed to five Spotted. Anyway, here are some
photos. Someone please tell me if it is a hybrid or if I am getting excited
over a regular old immature Spotted Towhee. All help appreciated.

that really be out of our reach. I'm not advertising this, but it would be

2017-02-15 Thread Ben S
On Sunday, I visited this area of the south platte. Along 88th, I did not
see an adult male Barrow's, but I did see what appears to be an immature
male Barrow's. Also nine Northern Pintails. Nice seeing the adult male
Barrow's! Where exactly was it?
Also near 64th I got my year bird Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon's) and two
Black-crowned Night-Herons (immatures). I checked and this is pretty much
the only part of the Denver area they overwinter. Another highlight was a
flyover Double-C Cormorant.

[cobirds] Re: Dunlin - Interspecies friendship?

2017-02-09 Thread Ben S
I would like to say December's Wilson's Snipe and Purple Sandpiper at
Dillon. However, these birds actually appeared to dislike each other.
Purple Sandpiper chased Wilson's Snipe away when I was there once in late
Dec. To my knowledge, Chatfield's current Trumpeter is a loner with no
friends : (.
