this DFO Lark Bunting from 1999, which shows a trip he led from Deer Creek

2021-04-14 Thread rosanne juergens
I only know of Robert Rozinski from the wonderful book published by him and
Wendy Shattil in 1990: "Close to Home." I was given the book by my mentor
John B. Hayes who contributed with photos and "quips." The photos are not
today's high resolution, crystal clear images, but they tell a story of how
birds and other taxa have adapted to our urban environment. In addition, it
is a reflection of the early days of birding and nature watching in the
Denver area. There are copies available!
https://www.amazon.com/Close-Home-Colorados-Urban-Wildlife/dp/091179770X/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1=close+to+home%2C+colorado%27s+urban+wildlife=1618427289=8-1
Where is the bench?
Sincerely,

[cobirds] Attn: CoBirds list manager

2021-03-22 Thread rosanne juergens
Hi,
In your "about" section the link to rules of the road should be
https://cobirds.org/CFO.aspx?id=25
Right now it is a broken link.

When reading what is and isn't allowed on CoBirds, it says with any
problems I should contact the list manager, but I couldn't find that
information. So hopefully this email will get to the list manager!

I have not been receiving an email of my own submissions to CoBirds.
Thankfully, my recent sighting and email about the Sagebrush Sparrow showed
in "conversations." I don't know if people got emails with that message or
if they just regularly check the listserv, because I didn't get an email of
my initial posting.

Can you let me know why I am not getting an email that shows my post? I do
get emails with responses to the conversation though.

Thank you

[cobirds] Golden-crowned Sparrow, yes

2021-01-13 Thread rosanne juergens
Chatfield stable area, jeffco 10:30am today
There is a circular drive that encircles a parking lot by the stables.
Juncos were feeding on bare ground next to one of the junipers on that
circular drive, just across from the horses. 2 White-crowned Sparrows
joined them, then the Golden-crowned scooted out of the juniper and fed on
the ground long enough to get a good ID.
Too quick for photo.
Hope this helps!

My mentor John Hayes told me about that area years ago for good birding -
and subsequent DFO trips have stopped there. I'm amazed with all the canyon
noise of motorcycles and the constant traffic on W. Buckhorn that the birds

2020-05-31 Thread rosanne juergens
For those who haven't been to this eBird hotspot: after turning on w.
buckhorn from Deer Creek Canyon Rd, park in the pullout on the right. Cross
the street and go slightly up a driveway. A path shows up on the left. Go
down the the little greenbelt to the lone Russian Olive bush. Face away
from the road and look up to the highest trees. The Scarlet Tanager was
making itself quite known by its singing!

[cobirds] Re: Rest in Peace, COLORADO RARE BIRD ALERT! And a suggestion/request!

2020-05-31 Thread rosanne juergens
Hello Norm,
I just posted on Cobirds about a Scarlet Tanager at a well known eBird
hotspot at Deer Creek Canyon Rd and W. Buckhorn. However, my cell phone
service was not working there, so I had to pull over a little ways down the
canyon to post it, giving the cross streets rather than the GPS info. And
you're right - after posting it to eBird it is not yet showing up in the
alerts.
I will always defer to Cobirds!

I re-found the Green Heron just after 8am this morning. It was on a log at
the south-west "corner" of the pond where the creek is. It flew off before
I could get a photo, calling very distinctively. It didn't re-appear from
the reeds on the opposite shore. Thank you Ken for letting me know how to

This little Castle Pines resident needed help and found it inside the
garage at Fire Station 39. It’s beak was wrapped with debris, it’s eyes
wouldn’t open and it couldn’t fly. Firefighters cleaned it off, served it
sugar water and after 15 minutes the hummingbird flew away!

[cobirds] A last hurrah for the Denver metro area?

2019-05-31 Thread 'Rosanne Juergens' via Colorado Birds
Not gone yet from my yard! Although a cute Lesser Goldfinch pair just started
their visits to my nyger feeder yesterday. I'm about 3 miles west of you Jared

[cobirds] Snowy Egret, Littleton

2019-04-15 Thread 'Rosanne Juergens' via Colorado Birds
"The" Snowy Egret is back at Sterne Park (pond) today. Also Common
Mergansers, Double-crested Cormorants, CAGO, and Mallards. There have been
Wood Ducks there too although I didn't spy it today.
