[cobirds] Larimer Gyrfalcon- not this morning

2020-01-01 Thread David Wade
Happy New Year birders,
For the Loveland CBC I spent three hours this morning Looking for the Gyrfalcon
without success. Roughly 15 other birders were looking at some point. As
consolation we saw a Glaucous Gull, Merlin and Ferruginous Hawk. At least one
other border heard a Lapland Longspur flying over.

[cobirds] Larimer Gyrfalcon pic/video

2019-12-09 Thread Glenn Elmore
I took these pictures and video this morning between 0820 and 0830 Monday
morning. It had been sunny but moved towards clouds. Temperature was about
28F and landfill and gulls were already active. No other birders obvious.

I missed both the arrival and was looking away at departure from the 4th
tower west which was >400m west of where I parked not far from Taft Hill so
as to give opportunity for a less disturbed perch.
Both the stills and the video taken with a hand-held Nikon P1000 so my
apologies for the less-than-stellar quality.

Gyrfalcon continues as of 9:30 am. Perched on a power trip pole just north of
the Larimer County Landfill on Taft Hill Rd. Nice pull-off for parking.

[cobirds] Larimer Gyrfalcon

2019-01-02 Thread Bill Schmoker
The long-lingering Gyr flew in from the southeast and landed on a tall
power pole at Taft & Trilby at 11:05. After a few minutes it headed over
the landfill & points north.

A little while earlier Paul H. had the adult Glaucous-winged Gull at the
landfill.

Enjoy- Bill Schmoker, Longmont.
