[cobirds] Mew Gull (Larimer)
A first-cycle Mew Gull was with the gull throng along the north shore of Lake Loveland yesterday at dusk. A seasonally rare Mountain Bluebird was nearby in the trees along the beach. Here is a photo of the gull with a Ring-billed Gull of the same age. Nick Komar Fort Collins CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. Dave Wade just spotted a second cycle Mew Gull () at Horseshoe Lake farm pond (north side). We are trying to relocate the bird now to get better photos. Greetings birders, An adult Mew Gull was foraging on the ice at the south end of Douglas Lake/Reservoir north of Ft Collins today. I assume this is the same one Andy Bankert first reported and Dave Leatherman caught a glimpse of 5 or 6 days ago. It was actively searching the ice for little tidbits of food trapped in the ice, at least that's my take of it. It was one of the first few gulls I looked at and easy to identify because it's white crescents just jumped out at me. I also saw 3 - 5 Bonaparte's Gulls that ebird flagged as rare, late I assume. [cobirds] Mew Gull (Larimer)
The Horseshoe Lake gull hangout in Loveland did not disappoint this evening. The Mew Gull flew off with Ring-billed Gulls towards Lake Loveland. The ibis flock arrived at dusk and circled the gull flock in the lake center, seemingly intent to join the roost. Finally they actually alighted on the water with the gulls! Hit Lake Loveland this morning with Nick Komar. Very cold but rewarding. Among the highlights, 5 lesser black-backed gulls, same number of California gulls, 2 thayers gulls, and one Mew gull. Also saw a lone pelican and one bald eagle. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group.
