SessionTransformer: multiple select
Hello, I have a "multiple" select, which is being submitted by a form, so that my request string looks like: my-action?selectItem=1selectItem=2selectItem=3... Does anyone know how I could retrieve all of the "selectItem" request paramters? I've tried (just to see what happens): session:getxml context="request" path="/parameter/selectItem"/, and this just gets the first selectItem parameter (id=1). What I would like to get is: itemsitem id="1"/item id="2"/item id="3"//items Thanks,-Alex
simple question about StreamGenerator
What does the "form-name" parameter mean in the context of the Stream Generator? Oskar

Re: Build All fails on latest CVS Snapshot
I am happy that I am not alone in this ;) OK, this issue is resolved: 1-Try to download from the CVS and make a new build. 2-make before a build.sh clean before you start. 3-Another recommendation is (thanks to Torsten Curdt): /xml-cocoon2/src/blocks/databases/java/org/apache/cocoon/components/language/markup/xsp/EsqlConnection.java You will see the @JDBC3_START@ and @JDBC3_END@ markers. They are used by the build system to uncomment the necessary implementations depending on the JVM version. So I guess the transition into the database block broke this mechanism. But also there is a problem that the esql.xsl is not included in any jar file. no matter how you compile the sources. Regards, Antonio Gallardo. What is the best way to set up Cocoon, so that the files that Cocoon serves, can safely be edited via WebDAV? You should write your own Slide Store to access your repository I think we only need a File-based repository ATM, so this is already written, correct? Yes. A few weeks ago I saw a document that described a set up for putting Cocoon inside Slide, but now cannot find it! xml-cocoon2/src/scratchpad/webapp/samples/slide I cannot get this to work. Attempting to login throws Exceptions, I wrote to you privately about this on Saturday. Thanks for your subsequent reply. Yes, it seems there has some things changed. FYI. The sample web.xml file is out of sync with the current main web.xml, and tries to use WEB-INF/Domain.xml, I believe this should be: /samples/slide/slide.xconf (but then I still cannot access it with a WebDAV client ;). I did manage to get Slide working standalone, just not your samples from inside Cocoon. If you plan to run the Cocoon Servlet and the Slide WebDAV Servlet in one Servlet Container, you could share org.apache.slide.common.Domain instance, which holds all repositories. So you must not initialize the Domain twice. I had several emails from people who wanted to use Slide in Cocoon, but could not get it working, it would be great to sort out these problems so people can use this powerful stuff! The problem is that I'm in the exams. So my time limited, until mid next week. Is it wise to use Cocoon's FileGenerator to read files managed by Slide? Is there a better way of doing it? Yes, by using the Slide SourceFactory(slide://) OK, so once you start to use Slide for storage, even though it may only be File storage, you _always_ need to access the files via the 'slide://' protocol, rather than the 'file://' protocol, correct? Yes. How do you take advantage of Slide's versioning capabilities? The SlideSource implements a primitive access to the versions of the files. Is it useable? Yes, but not all tested. cannot compile
Hi guys, I am trying to get Cocoon 2.0.3 to work in the latest JBoss (3.0.3/TomCat4.1.12). I have it as a war file in an ear file (I do not want to run it exploded). Things seem to work okay until I access an XSP file and then I get a page full of classpath related problems - this is weird because it only happens with XSP compilation. The docs don't have anything for JBoss3.0.3 (though surely someone must have it working?). So I searched the archives and found similar problems but no solutions. Here is what Vadim says: Are you trying to deploy cocoon.war or unpacked webapp? If it is war file, see recent emails about manifest file: it must have some additional entries in order to deploy Cocoon as a war archive. I searched and searched but couldn't find the recent emails in question. :-( If someone knows the answer could they pse post it here so that other people searching the archives in the future won't need to post the same question. I have come to a conclusion that either there has to be way to submit an VXML page with field names like cocoon-xmlform-view (Is there any way? I could not find one) like this submit method=get next=wizard? namelist=cocoon-xmlform-view city propertyType rent cocoon-action-next/ (As I mention earlier VXML browser throws and ECMAScript exception cuz of - in the variable name) or we need to make changes in XMLForm so that it is in true practical sense Device Independent Form. By looking around the src I found out that Form.java of XMLForm uses some constants from Constants.java The following is the snippet of same: from Form.java snip-- public static String FORM_VIEW_PARAM = cocoon-xmlform-view; snip-- /** * filters custom request parameter * not refering to the model * * @todo implement default filtering * for standard Cocoon parameters * like cocoon-action[-suffix] * */ protected boolean filterRequestParameter( String name ) { // filter standard cocoon-* parameters if ( filterDefaultRequestParameter( name ) ) return true; // then consult with FormListeners Set ls = new HashSet(); ls.addAll( Collections.synchronizedSet ( formListeners_ ) ); Iterator iter = ls.iterator (); while (iter.hasNext()) { FormListener fl = (FormListener) iter.next(); // if any of the listeners wants this parameter filtered // then filter it (return true) if ( fl.filterRequestParameter( this, name ) ) return true; } // if none of the listeners wants this parameter filtered // then don't filter it return false; } /** * Filters the standard cocoon request parameters. * If default filtering needs to be different, * subclasses can override this method. * It is invoked before all listeners are asked to filter the parameter */ protected boolean filterDefaultRequestParameter( String paramName ) { if ( paramName.startsWith ( Constants.ACTION_PARAM_PREFIX ) || paramName.startsWith ( Constants.VIEW_PARAM ) ) return true; if ( paramName.equals ( FORM_VIEW_PARAM ) ) return true; else return false; } /** * Try to extract from the request * and return the current form view */ public String getFormView( Map objectModel ) { Request request =getRequest( objectModel ); return (String) getRequest( objectModel ).getParameter ( Form.FORM_VIEW_PARAM ); } *** from Constants.java snip-- /** * The request parameter name to request a specific view of a resource. * * FIXME(GP): Isn't this Servlet specific? */ String VIEW_PARAM = cocoon-view; /** * The request parameter name to trigger a specific action. * * FIXME(GP): Isn't this Servlet specific? */ String ACTION_PARAM = cocoon-action; /** * The request parameter prefix to trigger a specific action. * * FIXME(GP): Isn't this Servlet specific? */ String ACTION_PARAM_PREFIX = cocoon-action-; * So I am not sure if we need to fix this, if we need to do v have to change the constants?? XML Forms without JavaBeans
Hello, I've looked through XMLForm documentation, but haven't really read it in detail yet. Quick question before I went off in the wrong direction. I would like to build forms which whould save information to XML files rather than the database. I would also like to use SourceWritingTransformer for that. Would XMLForms framework still be applicable, i.e. do I have to use JavaBeans or can a pipeline segment with SourceWritingTrasformer be plugged in? Thanks, -Alex
never gonna make it to a butterfly
I came into the Cocoon2 stronghold not just because I was caught in the hype. But, also, because I liked the principles on which Cocoon was founded. The fact that Cocoon is based on Avalon is a good thing. I am a fan of Avalon not only because it has the best written white paper on the subject of frameworks and component reuse, but also because those folks put the talk into practically - a robust working framework. Do I know all about Avalon? No, I do not - I have alot to learn and I am working on it. But, I enjoy learning from the masters. Cocoon seems to have some great philosophies and concepts. But, it has been a painful experience because of inadequate details of information. I consider all those contributing to the Cocoon effort to be GIANTS in conceiving and implementing the servlet engine and framework. I wish to learn from these master, also. But, the information provided always leaves too much to be desired. The information provided is like a cocoon that dies on the vine before it can become a butterfly. I cannot learn from the masters if they inform me on about 98-99 percent of a subject and leave out the remaining 1 or 2 percent. I need two things at the moment - authentication and LDAP connection. I spent many many painful hours searching for information on authentication relative to the Cocoon framework. After reading and searching for what seemed like forever (especially when bosses would like to see some progress), I found a great document at http://radio.weblogs.com/0103021/stories/2002/02/28/usingTheSunriseComponent s.html. This information was marvelous - allowed me to have insight that until then was impossible. The author was a master - except IT DOESN'T work. Well, 99 percent works, but the author left out how to do logout, mentioned that he would explain it, but never did. That cocoon died before finishing and flourishing into a butterfly. All of my study is down the drain, the 99 percent that was great has no value because the missing 1 percent is needed to produce authentication within the Cocoon framework. My disappointment cannot be expressed. LDAP - oh boy, how I searched. Found three different writings - 1) LDAPProcessor, 2)LDAPTransformer, and 3) LDAP Taglib - all of which have no dates. Information without dates is worse than worthless because it actually becomes mis-information. I have spent exorbitant amounts of time trying to get LDAP to work within the Cocoon framework. Am I ignorant? YES, but now that we have that concluded, that fact does not get my project to spread its wings and flourish. I am currently working on the information found at http://xml.apcahe.org/cocoon/userdocs/transofrmer/ldap-transformer.html. What a terse piece of information. When things are not working as planned, how does one learn how to proceed? The information gives no clue. Am I a master as you guys are? Absolutely not, but I am willing to learn from the masters. But, once again the information is so terse that us lesser mortals can gain no comprehension. That information is not gonna make it to a butterfly - it done croaked. Please note that i refer only to information - not documentation. Documentation is not expected from open source efforts. Information, adequate information, IS expected. I was reading http://www.xml.com/lpt/a/2002/02/13/cocoon2.html - the second to last sentence says that many projects are using Cocoon. I wanted to be among those butterflies, but i ain't gonna make it out of the cocoon stage. Everyone was sure that I had chosen the wrong set of 'tools' to use for the project. Have I proved them to be correct? I am the pinnacle of idiocity - many projects can do it, but I CANNOT - wow... I and several others have been working on Cocoon for several months. We use Torque to develop the database schema and accessor classes. We write Cocoon actions for the middle tier business logic. The business logic of course 'talks' with the Torque classes. The desire is to have the Cocoon framework handle the presentation - but, at our current rate - we are never gonna make it to a... Is their a master out there somewhere who can fill me in on those missing tidbits of information? SessionTransformer: setting attributes
Hello, I'm using SessionTransformer and would like to set an attribute with the value of a request parameter. I understand, that if I were to set an element I would do something like: itemidsession:getxml context="request" path="/parameter/id"//id/item However, what I would like to do is: item id="the value of id request parameter"/ Does anyone know if this is possible, or if not, what are the typical workarounds? Hi all, It's a bug! I found the following referred to on the dev list: http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=13479 So it looks like a Cocoon bug. RE: simple question about StreamGenerator
Oskar, StreamGenerator is expectingits input as a HTTP POST input. There aretwo scenarios: -For the POST requests with mime type of application/x-www-form-urlencoded the xml data is expected to be associated with the name specified in the sitemap parameter. - For the POST requests with mime types: text/plain, text/xml, application/xml the xml data is in the body of the POST request and its length is specified by the value returned by getContentLength() method. For the first scenario, the one way to generate HTTP POST message is to use http page with a Form method="post" tag. The xml load intended to be processed by StreamGenerator needs to be associated with some control inside the Form. For ex. this controlcan bea textarea containing xml document. The StreamGenerator will pull the xmlload out of the control which name matches the value attribute of "form-name" paramspecified in the sitemap. If the xml document is posted to the Cocoon using other means with mime types: text/plain, text/xml, application/xml the form-name is ignored. 2.1-dev authentication sample doesn't work
Hello everybody, Last thursday I downloaded the last Dev snapshot and try to install it. All work fine except the authentication sample. The error listed below appears. I use Tomcat 4.0.6 with JDK 1.3.1_05 and my OS is Windows NT 4.0. Any idea? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I would like to start a project with the authentication component. Is there something to install before working with the Cocoon authentication mechanism?
