Happy retirement, Michael! The best part was not so much how the code4lib community has grown in size (but that's important too), but how it's grown in scope and inclusiveness. And although I missed the very first Code4lib conference in Corvallis, Oregon, I was fortunate to be able to attend the next eight, from 2007 through 2014. Those conferences were some of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career (in terms of friends I made and stuff I learned) and I can't say enough thanks to the conference organizers who made that possible. Michael, I'll remember you best from GLS, working with Simple (I believe it was, a dialect of Prolog), which you referred to as "the pit-bull of programming languages: once it grabs hold, it never lets go." Have a great retirement. (Has it been that long? I guess it has.) On Wed, Jul 12, 2017 at 1:17 PM, Doran, Michael wrote: > Hi Francis, > > Thank you for remembering my "humor"-tagged posts! Michael: From back in our shared Voyager ILS days, I always considered you one of the big guys in this world. Your presentations were always worth attending, even if the subject wasn’t relevant to what I worked with. I once sat down to read (and enjoy) your code for one of your many programs contributed to the field. I know that I personally, and my institution, have benefited from your work. Thank you! You will be missed. Roy On 7/7/2017 11:39 AM, Doran, Michael wrote: Just a note to say that I will be signing off this list later this month due to my imminent retirement.
