and new tools. Jefferson will discuss and provide examples of data 
visualization, a relatively new field of activity in which information, 
often in the form of large data sets, is communicated efficiently through 
graphical means. Jeffrey will speak about new technologies and their 
library potential in the context of his work as the Emerging Technologies 
Coordinator in Columbia University’s Science and Engineering Libraries. 
Jennifer will describe some of the challenges and opportunities in 
building services for digital scholarship at NYU.

Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI), a leading nonprofit resource for video and
digital media art in New York, is seeking a motivated and organized intern
with a background in media collections to work in our Chelsea office two days
a week for the Summer semester. Founded in 1971, EAI holds
one of the world's largest and most important collections of single-channel
video and media works by artists, spanning the 1960s to the
present. This is a great opportunity for a someone
interested in media preservation, archives/library science, or collection
management to gain experience working with a moving image collection.

  
We are seeking an intern with an interest in digital collections to assist in
the planning stages of a project that will create an online streaming
distribution model of video content for educational purposes. Tasks may
include assisting in the development of collection specific standardized
keywords, grant writing, creating technical specifications, researching
vendors, and interface design.

  
While this is an unpaid internship, we will work with current students and
their academic institutions to provide the necessary information to grant
academic credit for this internship.

  
Other projects may include:

• General collection maintenance, including inventory of the tape library and
processing new acquisitions

• Assisting in the ongoing maintenance of a custom built content management
system including reconciling duplicate records and updating title records

• Assisting in the planning and implementing the digitization of special
collections (non-video)

Required skills:

Re: [CODE4LIB] repository migration

Kelsey,

I can't speak to the ePrints side of things, but on the Fedora side, there are 
nominally two options to consider:

1) create your records programmatically, via the REST API
2) create FOXML serializations of your ePrints records and then ingest those 
into Fedora

There are a number of variations on either approach, depending on the 
number/size of records involved to optimize ingest times. My general preference 
would be for #1.

Some best practices (not specific to migration) to consider in your Fedora 
repository:
i) use (M)anaged datastreams rather than Inline (X)ML datastreams where possible
ii) use Akubra and not the legacy low-level store
iii) unless you have a fairly small repository, update the HashIdPathMapper 
config (in akubra-llstore.xml) to have a deeper hierarchy (e.g. #/## or 
##/##) rather than just ##.

I'd recommend joining the Fedora users mailing list for any Fedora-specific 
follow-on.
