Also not on the committee, but I can help with #3: getting to the conference is very easy by train: there's a train from the airport to downtown Portland, which stops less than 1/4 mile from the hotel, and costs $2.50 each way. -Esme On Dec 1, 2014, at 5:10 PM, Coral Sheldon-Hess co...@sheldon-hess.org wrote: I'm not on the committee, but I can help with #5: http://vote.code4lib.org/election/results/33 (Also here are the keynotes: http://vote.code4lib.org/election/results/31) - Coral On Mon, Dec 1, 2014 at 4:50 PM, Emily Lynema emily_lyn...@ncsu.edu wrote: I suspect that it is time to start planning travel requests for Code4Lib 2015. Thanks for asking, I was starting to put together the travel request myself. I think the results list will only get you the top 10 (or so) presentations. I believe the next 10 (or so) are selected by the committee. Like others, I am not on the committee, but Portland's public transit is one of the best systems in the world. Apps, schedules, tickets here: http://trimet.org/. Re: [CODE4LIB] Update on Code4Lib 2015 registration info
I'll update the conference page to include all of the below: 1. The block rate for the conference hotel is $129/night for a single or double. That rate is available Sunday through Thursday nights, and the link/info for the hotel rate will be included in the registration form. 2. The registration will be under $200; hopefully substantially under. We're busy finalizing this. 3. TriMet's MAX Red Line runs between the airport and a few blocks from the hotel every 15 minutes from 5 am to 11:30 pm. There is also a downtown shuttle that can be booked for extended hours right to the Hilton for $14 one-way or $24 round trip http://www.bluestarbus.com/downtown-shuttle-schedule.php. 4. Registration is planned to open Dec. 8th (next Monday). I will include a time in what I post to the conference page. 5. Beyond the vote link posted previously, the program committee is scheduled to meet later this week to finalize the schedule and presenter list. The local committee will work with them to get a final presentation list up before the 8th. We are capping the registration numbers higher than in previous years (450-500), and our hope is not to sell out (or rather, to sell out exactly and turn not a soul away). Thanks for prodding us to get this information out! - Tom On Mon, Dec 1, 2014 at 2:26 PM, Esmé Cowles escow...@ticklefish.org wrote: Also not on the committee, but I can help with #3: getting to the conference is very easy by train: there's a train from the airport to downtown Portland, which stops less than 1/4 mile from the hotel, and costs $2.50 each way. [CODE4LIB] Call for Presentations: Metadata Services for Research Data Management, ALA Annual 2015 Virtual Preconference, ALCTS Metadata Interest Group
Reminder - deadline is this Friday, Dec. 5. ***Please Excuse cross-postings*** The ALCTS Metadata Interest Group seeks presentation proposals for the program Metadata Services for Research Data Management during the ALCTS Virtual Preconference Planning for the Evolving Role of Metadata Librarians prior to the 2015 ALA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA. This program is scheduled to take place during the week of June 1st (specific days during the week of June 1st will be determined at a later date in consultation with speaker availability). Presentations are 30 minutes in total -- 20 minutes for the presentation, 10 minutes for questions. Librarians continue to engage in active partnerships with researchers who seek assistance in describing and organizing their data to meet federal mandates and to promote the discoverability and preservation of their work. This session will examine different ways that librarians collaborate with researchers to manage and curate research data. Potential topics could include: - Creation of metadata workflows or tools for discipline-based metadata schema and repositories (internal and external) - Utilization of emerging metadata schema, including the semantic web, to describe research data - Implementation of metadata consultation services for researchers. Participants will gain awareness of the current issues surrounding metadata services for research data management and identify different methods and approaches for working with researchers and the metadata they generate. The deadline for proposals is December 5, 2014. Proposals may be submitted through this form : http://goo.gl/forms/PSd2yrSMof If you have any difficulties with this form, please feel free to submit your proposals directly by email to sathomps...@uh.edumailto:sathomps...@uh.edu Thank you!
