OhioNET, a not-for-profit library service organization, is looking for a 
qualified individual with a background in library systems administration to 
fill its open Technology Specialist position.



SUMMARY



As part of OhioNET's technology services support team, this individual will:



* Administer hardware, operating systems and/or related network 
infrastructure for OhioNET-managed library systems (currently three physical 
servers co-located in external data center and two virtual servers on managed 
infrastructure)

* Assist in the support and administration of library applications and 
other components of OhioNET-managed systems, which include multiple shared 
integrated library systems and proxy servers.

* Provide front-line technical support to member libraries and their 
staff to support their effective use of those systems and services.

* Assist in the identification, investigation, development and 
implementation of technology-related services and solutions that support the 
needs of OHIONET member libraries and groups.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



In consultation with other OhioNET staff, position will:



1.   Oversee all aspects of system administration and 
management for all OhioNET -managed systems/servers including:

a.   Innovative Interfaces Sierra servers for the OPAL (Ohio 
Private Academic Libraries) consortium;

b.   Innovative Interfaces Millennium server for the OSLS/OHNT2 
program;

c.   EZproxy servers used by several OhioNET members and the 
OPAL consortium.

2.   Assist with the on-going maintenance and end-user support 
for OhioNET -managed library systems, with primary focus on the COOL consortium 
(Consortium of Ohio Libraries) and its Evergreen library management system and 
EZproxy servers and, as needed, other shared library systems.

3.   Provide support via email, telephone and fax to 
individuals with varying levels of technical expertise.

4.   Utilize programming, technical and troubleshooting skills 
in operating hardware and software employed by the various OhioNET projects and 
member libraries.

5.   Coordinate system service, maintenance, updates and/or 
replacement with other OhioNET staff, participating libraries, vendor 
representatives and consultants.

6.   Prepare complete and accurate documentation to support 
systems and projects.

7.   Participate in after-hours and weekend emergency support 
rotation.

8.   Serve as backup for other departmental staff when 
applicable.

9.   Travel and attend meetings as needed to support OHIONET 
projects.

10.   Perform other duties, as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS



Knowledge/Experience:

* Minimum of one year of experience in system administration and 
support required;

* Experience with Linux system administration required;

* Experience with library management applications/systems (library 
service platforms/ILS, discovery systems, etc.) required;

* Familiarity with at least one programming/scripting language;

* Knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL or similar) and 
SQL fundamentals;



Skills:

* Outstanding problem-solving skills;

* Ability to prioritize among multiple projects;

* Demonstrated troubleshooting skills;

* Strong public or customer service skills;

* Excellent written and oral communication skills;

* Project management and coordination skills

* Capability of exercising sound judgment;



Abilities:

* Identify and assess problems, investigate multiple solutions and 
recommend appropriate solutions;

* Explain technical issues or provide technical instruction to 
individuals with diverse technological proficiency;

* Work independently and with minimal supervision;

Sorry to hear about the demise of Online NW but hopeful it can rise from 
the ashes. My first conference as a professional was Online NW.


In any event there really isn't any one person who can adequately stand 
for Code4lib Conferences. The Conferences are run from the same 
template[0] and the results vary from year to year. 2015 lesson here [1]


I for example can tell you my experience on the planning for 2013 but 
I'm willing to bet people in other years will have variations of the 
same theme to say about getting the conference going.

well as in terms of its mission.

BASIC JOB FUNCTION:

Responsible for the development, collection, analysis, and reporting of
NCAR/UCAR research with a particular focus on measures to indicate
understanding of the impact of the scholarship resulting from scientific work
that uses NCAR/UCAR facilities. This position works within the NCAR Library's
(Office of Research Impact Services), which is responsible for helping UCAR
meet compliance regulations for funder reporting and for promoting an
understanding of NCAR/UCAR research across the UCAR community.

  
DUTIES INCLUDE:

Support the research information management needs of the UCAR President's
Office and the NCAR Directorate, NCAR Laboratories and UCAR Community Programs
in terms of reporting requirements to NSF and other sponsors, to the UCAR
Board of Trustees, and to the UCAR community at large. Assist with raising
awareness, promoting understanding, and proper interpretations of such
metrics, including altmetrics.

Develop, implement, and promote technical systems and services to expose the
impact of NCAR/UCAR scholarship, research data collections, and the scientific
research community use of our facilities.

Act as Library liaison and provide outreach and training to the NCAR
Laboratories and UCAR Community Programs on research metrics. Follow emerging
trends in the area of research metrics, including bibliometrics and
altmetrics, and investigate related efforts to measure scholarly impact.

Provide expert input for the enhancement of institutional repository metrics,
including repository usage metrics as well as impact metrics for the materials
contained in the repository.

Provide support and guidance for institutional VIVO initiatives, such as
divisional/institutional collaborations within and outside of UCAR

Generate project ideas and prepare grant submissions related to
research metrics. Provide project management for funded
grant projects.

As requested, assist other Library and institutional personnel with strategic
planning, coordination, and deployment of research data services directed at
facilitating, promoting, and understanding the research lifecycle.

  
  
REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  
Education and Experience:

  
Master's Degree in Library Science, Informational Science, or relevant
discipline from an accredited institution of higher learning.

At least 3 years of progressive experience in information technology in an
academic library with substantial technical knowledge of systems and digital
technologies including significant experience in developing and managing
technical projects.

Experience in a research library, higher education institution, federal or
non-profit institution, or technology organization.

  
  
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated expertise is research metrics, including bibliometrics,
altmetrics, impact metrics and statistics.

Demonstrated expertise in the use of Web of Science and other industry
standard databases for the purposes of research evaluation.

Detailed knowledge of project management, and a demonstrated ability to
estimate the scope of a project and bring it to completion on time and within
budget.

Expert knowledge of library metadata systems, frameworks, and taxonomies.

Familiarity and comfort with technical underpinnings of research metrics
software, frameworks, and tools.

Expertise in HTML and other basic web programming. Exposure to javascript and
other web languages.

Demonstrated record of excellent oral, written, interpersonal and technical
communication skills along with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Ability to communicate complex and subtle ideas to lay audiences.

Collegial in all respects, with a proven capacity to listen closely to the
ideas and opinions of others.

Understanding of scholarly research institutions and their attendant politics,
culture, and current challenges.

Knowledge of existing and emergent standards and trends relating to research
metrics, digital libraries and other scholarly information resources.

Experience with obtaining grant funding and managing grant-funded projects is
preferred.

[CODE4LIB] Open Preservation Foundation welcomes Joachim Jung as its new Executive Director

We are pleased to announce that Joachim Jung has been named Executive
Director for the Open Preservation Foundation (OPF). Joachim will take up
the post on December 1, 2015 and will lead OPF in its mission to sustain
technology and knowledge for the long-term management of digital cultural
heritage.

Joachim has a long term interest in open communities, and brings nearly 10
years experience of working in cultural heritage organisations. He was
Project Manager for the EU FP7 SCAPE 
(Scalable Preservation Environments) project from 2011-2014, overseeing the
development and delivery of scalable, open source services for digital
preservation.

"On behalf of the Board, I am very pleased to welcome Joachim as the
Executive Director of the OPF. We received a number of strong applications
from around the world,” said Dr. Ross King, Chair of the OPF. “Joachim has
a keen insight into the challenges of digital preservation, complemented by
