The Ohio State University Libraries seek an energetic, flexible, and innovative 
individual to lead the Integrated Library Management Systems Support Team, a 
unit of the Libraries' Information Technology Division.  If your skills and

POSITION OVERVIEW
The ILMS Manager leads the ILMS Support Team, a service-oriented, team-based 
unit of the OSU Libraries (OSUL) IT Division. The ILMS Support Team is 
responsible for providing overall leadership, development, and management for 
the Libraries' integrated library management system (currently Innovative 
Interfaces, Inc. (III) Millennium system; migrating to Sierra in late 2012), 
and associated products including the III WebPAC and OCLC's WorldCat Local. The 
ILMS Manager reports to the Associate Director for Information Technology and 
supervises the Catalog Services  Public Services Systems Coordinator.

EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED)
Successful applicants will have a minimum of 2 years of recent experience with 
implementation, operation and maintenance of integrated library systems and 
services in an academic or large public library; demonstrated ability to plan, 
manage and oversee complex projects in coordination with other internal and 
external units; demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical problems, 
research similar issues and resolutions, and determine an appropriate course of 
action; ability to balance priorities to meet deadlines; excellent 
interpersonal, oral and written communication, listening skills, and 
collaboration skills, with a strong commitment to responsive service; 
flexibility to work in a dynamic and evolving area, both independently and as 
part of a team, to solve problems in a timely fashion.

EXPERIENCE (DESIRED)
In addition, top applicants will have 4+ years of recent experience with 
implementation, operation and maintenance of integrated library systems and 
services in an academic or large public library;  working knowledge of the 
Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (III) suite of products, particularly Millennium 
and/or Sierra and the WebPAC; familiarity with one or more of the following 
library functions - acquisitions, cataloging, serials processing, circulation, 
or reference; knowledge of library standards; experience working with a 
consortium; familiarity with WorldCat Local configuration; project management 
knowledge and skills as well as strong team management and development skills; 
demonstrated ability to document procedures; demonstrated ability to master new 
technologies and services quickly.

Summary of Duties
Serves as a member of the Libraries IT Division Web Implementation Team which 
is charged with designing, developing and managing innovative web-based 
applications that support, enhance, and extend the mission of The Ohio State 
University Libraries. Designs, develops, troubleshoots, implements, and 
maintains software code for applications delivered via the Web. Designs and 
maintains applications utilizing MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, NoSQL data 
collections, and lucene/search indices for optimizing application development, 
integration and scaling. Integrates web applications with other systems. 
Maintains existing web applications and databases. Selects and implements open 
source software applications to meet local needs. Optimizes developed code for 
stability and maintainability. Tests and debugs developed applications and 
middleware tools. Works within framework of University IT security standards 
and guidelines. Creates detailed documentation as part of development process 
in order to ensure ongoing support of applications. Performs high-level 
troubleshooting and responds to evening, weekend and holiday emergency service 
calls when on-call. Works with a variety of technical and non-technical staff 
to design and create web applications. Works closely with Project Managers and 
other members of the Libraries' IT Division to both develop detailed 
specification documents with clear project deliverables and timelines, and to 
ensure timely completion of deliverables.

Experience (Required):
Bachelor's Degree in computer and information science or an equivalent 
combination of education and experience; demonstrated exp in: web app 
development; mastery of PHP, Java, JavaScript, or other object oriented lang.; 
XHTML, CSS, XML, XSLT; data transfer protocols, database design, optimization, 
integration and scaling; code version control; selection and implementation of 
open source software; strong analytical and problem solving and excellent 
comm/collaboration skills.

Experience (Desired):
Demonstrated exp in: NoSQL data sets and lucene/search indices; XSLT and MARC 
for data transformation/reuse; web content mgt. systems; web development 
frameworks; distributed version control systems (Git); ADA req. and security 
stds and methods for compliance; ability to take initiative and document 
procedures.

ideas presented by a graphic designer's raw images and layouts into CSS/XHTML 
themes. Optimizes developed frontend JavaScript/CSS for scalability and speed.

security standards and guidelines. Creates detailed documentation as part of 
development process in order to ensure ongoing support of applications. Serves 
as Quality Assurance Lead for all applications produced by the development team 
including producing test plans, test cases, automated unit testing, and working 
closely with usability and accessibility experts on campus. Works with a 
variety of technical and non-technical staff to design and create web 
applications. Works closely with Project Managers and other members of the 
Libraries' IT Division to both develop detailed specification documents with 
clear project deliverables and timelines, and to ensure timely completion of

Experience (Required):
Bachelor's Degree in computer and information science or an equivalent 
combination of education and experience; demonstrated experience in: Web UI 
design, development and services including mastery of HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, 
AJAX, CSS; XML  XSLT; Java or PHP; UI design methodology; user-centered 
design; Adobe Creative Suite; code version control; quality assurance  
testing; strong analytical and problem solving and excellent communication and 
collaboration skills.

Experience (Desired):
Demonstrated experience in: Web UI programming frameworks (JQuery, Blueprint, 
SASS); HTML5; web content mgt. systems; web development frameworks; distributed 
version control systems (Git); ADA req. and security standards and methods for 
compliance; ability to take initiative and document procedures.

demonstrated experience in Java, JavaScript, or other object oriented 
languages; demonstrated familiarity with XHTML, CSS, XML, and XSLT; familiarity 
with source code version control; demonstrated strong analytical and problem 
solving skills; demonstrated experience in selection and implementation of open 
source software to meet local needs; excellent interpersonal, communication and 
collaboration skill; flexibility to work in a dynamic and evolving area both 
independently and as part of a team.

Experience (Desired):
Demonstrable experience with NoSQL data collections and lucene/search indices; 
work experience in an academic library or research university; familiarity with 
XSLT and MARC in the context of data transformation and reuse; familiarity with 
ADA requirements and methods of achieving compliance; familiarity with web 
security standards and methods of achieving compliance; experience with web 
content management systems, such as SilverStripe or Drupal, and web development 
frameworks, such as Symfony or Zend; demonstrated experience with distributed 
source code version control systems such as Git; demonstrated abilty to take 
initiative to improve current services offered by the organization and to 
document procedures.
