Re: [CODE4LIB] locking app for iPads
I am currently experimenting with Meraki (http://meraki.cisco.com/) to help with remote management and tracking in the event that an iPad is lost or stolen. This mobile device manager allows you to use an Apple Management profile in combination with an app to send notification, install apps remotely, do location tracking, and remotely lock down or wipe the device. It's not bad for a free service. Most forums have tried pointing me to MobiControl for some of this, but it is currently out of the projects price range. The idea is if a student does, in fact, steal the device, they will be locked out of actually utilizing it. Has anyone heard of something like this? Many thanks! Re: [CODE4LIB] Stand Up Desks
I have worked at a standing desk for a number of years and can attest that it does help with back problems. There is one thing that you need to factor in however, is your floor carpeted? I know it may sound trivial but at a previous institution, I was moved from a carpeted office to a bare tile office during repairs and it just killed my feet. It wasn't until I got an area rug that things started to get better. Former colleges have also attested that using exercise balls instead of chairs also help. I saw a Wired article a few months back hailing the benefits of stand up desks (http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/10/mf-standing-desk/), and also found an article in NY Times ( http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/02/business/stand-up-desks-gaining-favo r-in-the-workplace.html?_r=1) and wondered if there were any other developers/list members who used them. In my mind, I'm trading one problem for another, and I'm not sure I want to be standing up all day long. On the other hand, my back is killing me today. Suggestions? Mark
