Posting Summary

The Digital Technologies Librarian takes an innovative, service-centric
approach to the oversight of several key information management and discovery
systems (including Tulane's implementations of Primo, Islandora, and
ArchivesSpace). S/he will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance
of these systems, which will include: enabling data integration across
distributed and heterogeneous local and external data sources; providing
statistical, usage, and collection reports in support of decision making for
library collections and services; and promptly reporting issues/problems to
vendor(s) with follow-through until resolution. Additionally, the Digital
Technologies Librarian has secondary (back-up) responsibility for the
integrated library system (currently Voyager), link resolver (currently SFX),
proxy authentication, and interlibrary loan (ILLiad) systems. As a technology
liaison to library departments, s/he participates in formal task groups and
committees, both standing and ad-hoc, to analyze and improve systems and
services. S/he may assist with deploying hardware and software, including
ordering, troubleshooting, inventory, and licensing management. S/he will have
programming skills consummate with the Library's digital technology goals and
ambitions and will serve as part of a technology team that includes web
development, digital collections, and digital publishing initiatives.

library in Canada and is ranked third among peer institutions in North

specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and
research requirements of 215 graduate programs, over 60 professional programs,
and more than 700 undergraduate degree programs. More than 150,000 new print
volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries data centre houses more than 200
servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.

  
**POSITION SUMMARY:** The Metadata Production and Electronic Access Specialist 
is responsible for coordinating the access and management of e-journal and 
e-book packages, and individual e-resources, within electronic resource 
management systems (currently Serials Solutions and a local e-resource 
management system). Works proactively to find and resolve problems in 
vendor-supplied title lists and data feeds. Searches online databases and 
source files for suitable cataloguing copy and retrieves MARC records from 
vendor websites and/or FTP sites. Reviews derived records for completeness and 
accuracy and makes necessary additions and/or adjustments. Loads bibliographic 
records within the ILS system and exports data to external discovery services 
as required. Compiles statistics and provides accurate reports as required. 
Troubleshoots access issues, responds to user inquiries and follows up on 
access and maintenance problem resolution. Develops scripts to aid in the 
automation of tasks, t
 ransforms data from one format to another, and batch processes metadata. 
Creates metadata for inclusion in various discovery systems. Maintains and 
updates policies and procedures. Participates in the evaluation, implementation 
and the monitoring of new technologies. Performs other duties as required.  
  
**QUALIFICATIONS:** University graduation required.  
  
**EXPERIENCE: **A minimum of five years related experience working in a 
research or academic library setting required. Experience working within and 
ILS, Electronic Resource Management Systems (i.e. Serials Solutions) and 
relational database environments required.  
SKILLS: Knowledge of MARC formats and MARC record editing software required.
Experience searching online bibliographic utilities such as OCLC required.
Working knowledge of Excel, MySQL, Perl scripting and XML. Working knowledge
of system utility software, e.g. Windows, UNIX and Linux required.

Within the Library, the department works collaboratively with all staff

digitization, and build digital projects. The department is a collaborative

In this newly created position, the Library seeks a full-time member of the
Technology Department to contribute to the planning, design, and development
of digital projects using APS collections.

looking for a full-time software developer to help with improving the access
to their growing digital collections.

  
**Tasks:**  
- Development of Java-based Web- and database applications for the access to 
our digital collections  
- Maintenance of applications for the mass import of external datasets and 
development of new tools for automation and workflow control  
  
**Your Profile:**  
- Experience in the development of web applications with an object-oriented 
language (preferably Java) and modern web frameworks (ideally Spring MVC)  
- Experience with at least one of these technologies: JPA/Hibernate, SQL 
(preferably Postgres), Graph databases (e.g. Neo4J), search engines 
(Lucene/Solr), RabbitMQ  
- Experience with Perl and PHP  
- You know your way around JSON and XML  
- You have previously designed, implemented and maintained RESTful web services 
 
- Your enjoy developing scalable software with Linux  
- Using modern version control systems in medium-sized teams  
  
The position is full-time and initially limited to two years. Compensation is
based on the TV-L guidelines at level E13 (~45,000€).

least one year of web development experience including PHP, MySQL, HTML / CSS,
Java.

• Familiarity with institutional repository systems, such as Digital Commons,
curation and publishing systems, OMEKA, digital asset management system,

experience with version control, test-driven development, and continuous
integration techniques. Integrated library systems preferred.

• Working knowledge of digital library practices, data curation, and data
formats, including XML and Dublin Core; Demonstrated knowledge of and
experience with long-term digital preservation tools, standards, and best
practices; Experience with data migration. Ruby on Rails, Apache, Solr,
Lucene, Java, JSON; client and server side scripting.

• Familiarity with data formats including XSLT, EAD, MARC. Familiarity with UI

• Experience with system administration. Working knowledge of software version

the Three Rivers Public Library. Seeking to recruit a
qualified individual to perform highly responsible administrative and
supervisory duties that will be responsible for the overall management of all
phases of the Public Library. The individual in this
position reports directly to the Library Board of Trustees with input from the
City Manager or his Designee.

  
Essential duties of this position requires coordinating management under the
direction of the Library Board and reports to the Library Board on matters
concerning the Library operations and finances. The
Director recommends the annual budget for the Public Library with input from
the City Finance and Administration Department, the Library Board of Trustees
and the Library team members, and monitors expenditures within budget
limitations. Individual will prepare reports,
correspondence, directives and resolutions for the Public Library with policy
decisions to be approved by the Public Library Board of
Trustees. Director is responsible for materials selection
and processing, fundraising activities, inventory management, overdue
procedures, collection retention, and building and grounds
maintenance. Reporting to the Board of Trustees with
statistics, reports, correspondence and information about legislation and
Library activities which occur on a state and nationwide
basis. Director will also be responsible for writing and
compiling grant applications for the Library as well as compiling and filing
the annual State Aid Report as required by the Library of Michigan.

  


Requirements

  
It is preferred that the individual in this position possess a Master's Degree
in Library Science from an American Library Association (A.L.A.) accredited
college or university. Experience in research and
administration with five years of experience in a supervisory capacity also
preferred. Knowledge of modern library, office and
accounting procedures, and hazards and applicable safety precautions at the
Library are a must. Individual should demonstrate an
ability to effectively plan, motivate, supervise and evaluate work of
subordinate employees. Must have a willingness and ability
to write and speak on the Library's behalf and to participate in continuing
education endeavors. Willingness and ability to take a
leadership role by participating in Library activities on a local,
cooperative, State and National level including, but not limited to, the
American Library Association, the Michigan Library Association and the
Southwest Michigan Library Cooperative will also be

Historical racing knowledge not required but a willingness to learn and

The P. T. Barnum Digital Collection Project seeks an enthusiastic,
collaborative, and creative cataloger and metadata expert to perform original
cataloging and metadata creation for special collections and museum objects in
a variety of formats (print and manuscript materials, artifacts, etc.) as part
of a comprehensive digitization project supported by the National Endowment
for the Humanities (NEH). The archives and artifacts are in the collections of
The Barnum Museum and the Bridgeport Public Library's History Center, both
located in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut. A primary goal of the project is
to create catalog records and metadata for approximately 200 artifacts, 125
photographs, 325 manuscript items, and 440 print material items as these
materials are digitized. Collection materials date from circa 1830 to circa
1900 and range in complexity from single page and bound manuscripts to multi-
faceted museum artifacts. Reporting to the Project Director/Barnum Museum
Curator, and taking direction from the project's Technical Coordinator, and
the Bridgeport History Center Archivist, the Project Cataloger will work
collaboratively with staff at both institutions to ensure that catalog
information and metadata is of a high and uniform standard, using appropriate
controlled vocabularies, and is formatted in a way to be ingested into a
shared digital repository.

  
The position is temporary (up to 18 months), and is funded through an NEH
grant. The Cataloger will begin employment as soon as possible, and complete
21 hours of work per week at a rate of $30 - $35 per hour to be paid by The
Barnum Museum. The Cataloger will divide his/her time between the museum and
library.

  
Key Responsibilities:

  
Acquire or improve knowledge of cataloging software systems Collective Access
and PastPerfect

Work with BHC and Museum staff to establish description and access standards
for record creation according to national standards and best practices

Review or gather documentation about the collection materials as cataloging
project proceeds

Implement cataloging priorities established with staff for NEH project

Create original bibliographic records and object records for P. T. Barnum
material in the Museum and Library collections

Coordinate work schedule with Technical Coordinator to ensure overlap of time
and regular communication

Format metadata for ingest into shared repository, taking direction from
Technical Coordinator

Meet deadlines, achieve cataloging milestones stipulated for project

Attend and contribute to project team meetings

Qualifications:

  
Masters in Library/Information Science from ALA-accredited program or
equivalent degree in museum or archival studies.

Relevant training or experience in cataloging and metadata creation in a
library or museum (previous experience in library or museum technical services
desirable)

An understanding of controlled vocabularies and current standards for Library
of Congress subject headings and classifications, Getty Vocabularies such as
AAT and CONA, Nomenclature for Museum Cataloging, and GeoNames

Experience in and knowledge of XML-based standards such as MODS and Dublin
Core

Experience in and knowledge of national standards, specifically, application
of the Resource Description and Access (RDA), and DACS formats for
bibliographic and authority data

Ability to follow precise direction, adhering to best practices and procedures
developed by the team

Ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently

purchasing and implementation; excellent oral and written communication
skills; excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple
priorities; demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making
skills; familiarity with recent scholarship and emergent best practices in the
digital humanities; ability to teach in workshop or classroom setting and

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with experience, and expected to range between

Harvard Library is a participant in an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant -
Linked Data for Libraries: LD4L Labs. The project is a collaboration of
Cornell University, Harvard University, The University of Iowa, and Stanford
University to advance the use and usefulness of linked data in libraries.
Project team members will create and assemble metadata tools, ontologies,
services, and approaches that create and use linked data to improve the
discovery, use, and understanding of scholarly information resources. The goal
is to pilot tools and services and to create solutions that can be implemented
in production at research libraries within the next three to five years.

  
This project is a great opportunity to collaborate with outstanding colleagues
at Harvard and peer institutions on the leading edge of the semantic web,
developing tools and technologies for the next generation of library metadata,
exposing Harvard's library resources as linked open data and linking that data
to related resources on the web. You will be a part of
Harvard University IT Library Technology Services (LTS), which develops
digital library software for the Harvard Library, including a digital
repository service, web delivery applications for images, audio, video, and
books, and software for the management and public access to visual material,
archival descriptions, and geospatial data sets.

  
The Harvard portion of the project includes deploying a pilot linked data
conversion and triple store hosting environment for BIBFRAME linked data, an
evolving standard being stewarded by the Library of Congress. As part of a
team of LTS developers, Library metadata specialists, and dev/ops staff, you
will work on projects to further LTS goals, and play a lead role in piloting
linked data hosting, conversion, editing, publication, and visualization of
Harvard Geospatial Library and Harvard Film Archive metadata. Work may include
enhancing, and deploying triple stores, linked data identity endpoints, the
open source Vitro linked data creation and editing environment, and data
format conversions and visualizations that will leverage linked data. You will
work closely with skilled staff at Harvard as well as collaborate with leading
linked data staff from Cornell, Stanford and Iowa to build metadata management
and linked data services for the library.

  
This is a term position funded through March 31, 2018.

  
Basic Qualifications

- Bachelors degree with 5+ years software engineering experience or equivalent. 
 
- Familiarity with linked data principles and technologies, including XML, RDF 
and ontologies  
- Full stack web application development experience, including server side 
development, web services, java, and javascript

troubleshooting processed files

• Managing retrieval of vendor-provided shelf-ready MARC files via FTP,
importing files into Horizon and trouble-shooting problems

  
SCHEDULE

• 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday; flexibility on the precise schedule
but must be within 8:00 am & 6 pm

  
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education and Experience: MLIS/MLS required

• Knowledge and abilities: Basic cataloging principles; strong attention to
detail; basic knowledge of computers; basic knowledge of MS Office Excel or
similar applications.

  
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Cataloging experience (strongly preferred); 2 yrs. experience necessary to
qualify for Librarian II

• Experience working OCLC Connexion and Horizon

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbent will perform repetitive arm/hand movements using a keyboard and

responsibility for content strategy across the Libraries website. The person
will report to the Manager of Discovery, Access and Web Services in the

The position will work collaboratively across a large and distributed
organization of content authors and stakeholders. The Libraries website is a
complex, integrated online environment of Penn State Libraries-created content
and licensed library databases and resources. The successful candidate will
have an understanding of library systems as well as locally authored web
content, and a keen knack for problem solving for optimum user experience.

  
The Web Content Strategist will act as a key member of the web teams and
stakeholders to develop a content strategy document for the Libraries website,
as well as workflows related to content lifecycle. The strategist will assess
and create a content inventory, assign and track new content and develop and
maintain a gap analysis. The Web Content Strategist will create and edit
content and work with other writers, while collaborating closely with Public
Relations and Marketing on developing and enforcing editorial style
guidelines. The Web Content Strategist will mentor content authors and help
develop training and educational materials, emphasizing accessibility and user
experience of content within our content strategy. The Web Content Strategist
will also provide advice and consultation for additional websites and tools in
the Libraries to achieve a consistent voice.

  
This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the
successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically
requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience,
or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3.
Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for
higher level jobs.

  
Required skills include: writing and editorial experience; knowledge of UX
principles; strong project management skills; demonstrated content management
software experience; strong interpersonal and communication skills;
familiarity with library resources databases; and knowledge of accessibility
WCAG 2.0 and Section 508 guidelines. Preferred qualifications include
knowledge of search engine optimization and experience working with Drupal and
developing information architecture for desktop and mobile web. Knowledge of
Agile SCRUM; demonstrated experience implementing content strategy methods

image files, tens of thousands of hours of video and audio media, hundreds of
thousands of descriptions of items in our Collection, and several sources of
metadata. The Digital Collections Division endeavors to provide better user
interfaces to support those using the Collection via the web and by internal

This is a full-time donated position (non-Federal) paid with the Museum's
private funds with a two year work assignment. Salary is commensurate with

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  
Design, develop, and implement tools and systems that relate to processing,
identification, and access to the digitized historical assets and databases
held by or overseen by the Office of Collections.

  
Develop software systems to enhance access to Collections materials including
digitized archival materials, photographs, and oral histories, historical
film, Museum objects, and various databases and sources of metadata. The work
consists of software and user interface design for new projects as well as
maintenance, modification, and refactoring of existing systems.

  
Use systems, tools, and approaches such as modern programming tools (e.g.
Java, Python, PHP); contemporary MVC (model-view-controller) frameworks as
embodied in systems such as Ruby on Rails; JQuery/JavaScript; Linux shell
scripting; TDD/BDD (test-driven development, behavior-driven development) and
code reviews; and source-code control (e.g. git, svn).

  
Plan and develop methods of operation to effectively work with metadata and
use metadata transformation, search, discovery, and user interfaces for
Collections cataloging materials.

Modify, customize, and deploy open source and commercial software systems such
as Blacklight (the Ruby on Rails application) and ResourceSpace (an open
source PHP-based digital asset management system), and other systems. Populate
and query Apache Solr, an open source search engine. Use and develop APIs.

  
Improve maintainability, performance, security, using refactor and update
systems, and maintain conformance with the community of users of each system.

  
Test and monitor systems for proper operation.

  
Implement test-driven development and/or behavior-driven development systems
to ensure proper operation.

  
Perform other duties as assigned.

  
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  
Experience with at least one MVC-oriented development framework such as Ruby
on Rails, Laravel, Django, Symfony, or similar.

  
Experience developing and deploying applications using at least two
contemporary programming and web development languages such as Ruby, PHP,
Python, and/or server-side and/or client-side JavaScript. Experience
developing and modifying web applications and command-line shell programs.

  
Understanding of good software development practices. Experience with
refactoring existing installed systems in order to enhance feature sets or
upgrade to newer versions.

  
Experience with theory and practice of relational databases such as MySQL
and/or SQL Server.

  
Familiarity with the Linux command line and shells (e.g. bash). Experience
developing and deploying production systems in a Linux environment.

  
Familiarity with source code control and collaborative development systems
(e.g. git, svn).

  
Ability to learn and use metadata standards of representation and exchange
that relate to library or collections systems, such as MARC, EAD, METS, MODS,
TEI and other XML and JSON standards or guidelines.

  
Experience writing code for production-quality, complex systems.

**Eligibility requirements for potential residents:**

to sign an agreement confirming you will receive your degree prior to the

  * Residents are paid around $20/hour for a 40 hour work week for 12 months. 
Additional professional development money is provided for conference attendance.
  * Residents do not receive health benefits while in the residency, however 
the cost of healthcare has been factored into the salary rate listed above.
  * Applicants must be prepared to begin and finish distinct digital 
stewardship projects working on-site at host institutions.
  * Participation in the program also includes a week-long advanced training 
session, ongoing workshops, lectures, and special events, and other cohort 
activities.
  * Residents get access to mentoring and career development services through 
the program and through the involvement in NDSR of notable digital preservation 
professionals, as well as the ARLIS/NA community.
  * The NDSR is an ongoing, multi-city program developed and supported by IMLS.

visualizations of repository materials, interactive administrative web
applications, and engaged in rapid prototyping activities in order to respond

The Carolina Digital Repository is a digital archive for materials produced by
members of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill community. The goal
of the CDR is to preserve and provide access to UNC digital scholarly output
such as publications, data, digitized collections and university records. As
part of the CDR and other projects, the University Libraries are active in and
committed to open source development and communities such as Fedora Commons
Repository.

  
**Minimum Education and Experience Requirements**  
  
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer
Engineering, math, or Engineering or related technical degree from an
appropriately accredited institution; or

  * Bachelor's degree and some computer coursework from an appropriately 
accredited institution and one year of experience in business application

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**  
  
Reporting to the Head of Digital Library Initiatives, the Digital Projects and
Services Librarian coordinates the implementation of various digital library
projects and services, working collaboratively with the developers' team, web

 Work with Digital
Services staff to ensure updates and maintenance is performed on the software
and hardware infrastructure that support the Library's web presence

 Engage in the
quarterly Web Content Review process and in establishing content request
procedures

 Perform regular
accessibility audits of the Library's web presence and tests across multiple
platforms

 Perform regular
usability testing and customer research to ensure that the user experience is
top priority

 Analysis and
evaluation of usage statistics

 Collaborate with
Communications Manager on social media strategy

 Assist in the
planning, development and evaluation of new services

 Provide
troubleshooting for patrons using the Library's website, email, and social
media presence

 Assist with online
outreach to promote virtual and in-person library services

 Assist with some
public service, including occasional service desk shifts, technology training,
troubleshooting, and other potential services to the public

 Maintain and
actively encourage the staff use of the Technology Toolkit as a learning tool.

 Maintain an
awareness of products, services, technology applications, and trends by
reading library and technology literature, news media, and blogs, and
proactively seek out and recommend areas for improvement and innovation.

 Develop
organizational and technical skills as needed.

  
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

  
 Web design or
development BA or relevant experience

 Preferred MLS or
MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution and/or relevant work experience in a
public library or non-profit.

 Extensive experience
administering a Drupal website is a must.

 Understanding of the
LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and Python) software stack model for web servers

 Proven ability with
and knowledge of web-based technologies, personal computers, and mobile
devices across a wide-range of platforms.

 Solid judgment and
the ability to work independently.

 Technical competence
and a willingness to learn and grow.

 Ability to write for
the web.

 Strong track record
of project management.

 Excellent
interpersonal and customer service skills.

 Ability to work with
limited supervision and as part of a team.

  
This position is full-time 40 hours per week, with occasional off-hours
availability for special projects. Salary range begins at $43,825.60 with
excellent benefits.

WGBH is seeking a Ruby on Rails developer to help develop a Hydra / Fedora 4
repository and maintain multiple websites / projects for the Media Library and
Archives.

The WGBH Media Library and Archives digital preservation system will be based
on the Hydra Project technology stack, which includes Ruby on Rails, Fedora,
Blacklight, and Apache Solr. Working closely with the Media Library and
Archive's Director, Project Manager, Developer and Systems Analyst, as well as
remote partners from Indiana University, the Developer will continue work on
the HydraDAM grant project as well as lend development support to several
other web properties like Open Vault (openvalt.wgbh.org) and the American
Archive of Public Broadcasting (americanarchive.org).

  
Ideal candidates should be:

* Comfortable working in teams of 2 to 6, sometimes remotely  
* Able to communicate clearly and respectfully to all team members, both 
technical and non-technical  
* Willing to be active participant in the Fedora / Hydra open-source 
communities  
* Understanding of metadata schemas such as PBCore  
* Familiar with the idea of object oriented storage  
* Ability to travel 2-4 times per year to conferences, hackathons and partner 
meetings  
  
Required skills for all duties include having working knowledge of:

* Ruby >= 1.9.3  
* Rails >= 3.2.0, common conventions, patterns, and best practices how to write 
and run automated tests for Rails apps using Rspec and Capybara (or equivalent) 
 
* Github  
* CSS3 + HTML5
