I think i am going to get Window 10 computer and install all component needed
(as java, NetBeans ) and see if its work.

That will take me some time, i will let you know.

Thanks

Ami

Noah Avelar edited comment on NETBEANS-4099 at 4/4/20, 4:49 PM:

[~lkishalmi] I tried adding the line you said "run.standardInput = System.in"
into my project but still didn't work. I added it after
System.out.println(myName);

I've tried to execute the main class using the file's context menu like running
the program and cleaning and building but still get the same error.

[~lkishalmi] Omg thanks so much I thought I was never going to get Netbeans to
work lol. I was able to get the code to work. Is this a common issue that you
have run into before? Is this line of code a simple solution to add to your
build.gradle file when you get certain exception errors in Netbeans?

there's still an issue with Netbeans. I have this simple vowel counter class
and when I run the project in Netbeans it doesn't give me the initial output
"Enter a word:" I have to type something first and then it prints everything in
the end so it's skipping an output. Very weird. In Eclipse the project works
perfectly.

{code:java}
import java.util.Scanner;

public class Vowels {

public static void main(String[] args) {
int count = 0;
Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.print("Enter a word: ");
String word = scan.nextLine();
for (char c : word.toLowerCase().toCharArray()) {
if (isVowel(c)) {
count++;
}
}
System.out.println("Total Vowels : " + count);
scan.close();
}

private static boolean isVowel(char c) {
return (c == 'a' || c == 'e' || c == 'i' || c == 'o' || c == 'u' || c
== 'y');
}
}
{code}

In the previous scenario, the output shows "Enter your age" and then you can
type whatever number but now testing it out with this bigger project, it
doesn't even say "Enter a word:". The console is empty pretty much because you
have to type a word and then it'll finally count the vowels. Very confusing
that it's skipping somehow even though Eclipse runs great. When I run the
program in Eclipse, it says "Enter a word: " just as it should. Then I am able
to enter whatever word so it'll count the vowels for me.

[~geertjan] They're both simple scanner projects. I even tried with this code
and it has an issue in Netbeans but not in Eclipse. In Netbeans this project
here works fine but stops before it should say "Is it the weekend?". So you
have to type something before it actually says "Is it the weekend?". In Eclipse
the program works fine.

{code:java}
package gradleproject1;

import java.util.Scanner;

/**
 *
 * @author noahavelar
 */
public class Main {

public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner input = new Scanner (System.in);
System.out.println("Enter the # of cigars: ");
int cigar = input.nextInt();
System.out.print("Is it the weekend?");
String weekend = input.next();
System.out.println(cigar + " " + weekend);
   }

}
{code}

[jira] [Comment Edited] (NETBEANS-4099) Console does not allow input with Scanner class / Gradle Project

Noah Avelar edited comment on NETBEANS-4099 at 4/4/20, 8:17 PM:

In the previous scenario, the output shows "Enter your age" and then you can
type whatever number but now testing it out with this a little bigger project,
it doesn't even say "Enter a word:". The console is empty pretty much because
you have to type a word and then it'll finally count the vowels. Very confusing
that it's skipping somehow even though Eclipse runs great. When I run the
program in Eclipse, it says "Enter a word: " just as it should. Then I am able
to enter whatever word so it'll count the vowels for me.

Hi,

The "clean javafx:run" worked with 11.3 but the app displayed in the Scene the
version of Java was 12 even though I adjusted the source and target to 14 and
verified that Java 14 was the default Java for NB. Is 12 stable enough? I have
a class that starts on Monday and having to say things like "Don't worry about
this and that inconsistency with NetBeans, it will still run" is not something
I want to do.

The solution to this problem is to have the pom file declare a defaultGoal in
the build section. How could I go about making this suggestion?
Example:

clean javafx:run

[~lkishalmi] I tried adding the line you said "run.standardInput = System.in"
into my project but still didn't work. I added it after I've tried to execute
the main class using the file's context menu like running the program and
cleaning and building

[~geertjan] They're both simple scanner projects. I even tried with this code
and it has an issue in Netbeans but not in Eclipse. In Netbeans this project
here works fine but stops before it should say "Is it the weekend?". So you
have to type something before it actually says "Is it the weekend?". In Eclipse
the program works fine.

{code:java}
package gradleproject1;

import java.util.Scanner;

public class Main {

public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner input = new Scanner (System.in);
System.out.println("Enter the # of cigars: ");
int cigar = input.nextInt();
System.out.print("Is it the weekend?");
String weekend = input.next();
System.out.println(cigar + " " + weekend);
   }

}
{code}

add to your build.gradle file when you get certain exception errors in

You don't need this.

Just run the project.

[~geertjan] I do have that line in the build but what it's doing now is
skipping the initial output. The program should say "Enter a word:" but it just
gets up to "> Task :run" and I have to type a word and then it finally prints
"Enter a word: Total Vowels : 1".
So it's skipping output now. Any suggest on how to fix this? It's not fully
running so I have to type and then it prints it all at once. In Eclipse it
works perfectly how it should.

That's what your third line should be in your second scenario.

Best would be to start commenting on 12.0 Beta 2, which are here:

https://builds.apache.org/view/M-R/view/NetBeans/job/netbeans-TLP/job/netbeans/job/release120/7/artifact/dist/netbeans/

For purposes of your class, the above is indeed much better and stable than
11.3 since JavaFX projects will be runnable and debuggable as soon as you've
created them.

Got it, don't use Run Maven. In previous versions of NetBeans the Run command,
likely because of its connection to Ant, didn’t always successful run a Maven
project so I always had my students use Run Maven. I can see all the choices in
nbactions now. However I still believe the Run Maven Goals should show
javafx:run as an autocomplete option.

At this point you need to, I think, stop referring to Eclipse, since Eclipse is
teaching you the wrong thing -- there is indeed a difference between print and

Again you have:

System.out.print("Is it the weekend?");

Instead of:

System.out.println("Is it the weekend?");

(was: [~geertjan] I do have that line in the build but what it's doing now is
skipping the initial output.
In Eclipse it
works perfectly how it should. )

(was: [~geertjan] it actually still doesn't work when trying with other
projects so there's still an issue with Netbeans. I have this simple vowel
counter class and when I run the project in Netbeans it doesn't give me the
initial output "Enter a word:" I have to type something first and then it
prints everything in the end so it's skipping an output. Very weird. In Eclipse
the project works perfectly.

{code:java}
import java.util.Scanner;

public class Vowels {

public static void main(String[] args) {
int count = 0;
Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.print("Enter a word: ");
String word = scan.nextLine();
for (char c : word.toLowerCase().toCharArray()) {
if (isVowel(c)) {
count++;
}
}
System.out.println("Total Vowels : " + count);
scan.close();
}

private static boolean isVowel(char c) {
return (c == 'a' || c == 'e' || c == 'i' || c == 'o' || c == 'u' || c
== 'y');
}
}
{code}

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-4116) Add API to create ease the creation of Java Platform Combo box

2020-04-04 Thread Laszlo Kishalmi (Jira)
Laszlo Kishalmi created NETBEANS-4116:
-

 Summary: Add API to create ease the creation of Java Platform
Combo box
 Key: NETBEANS-4116
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-4116
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Improvement
  Components: java - Platform
Reporter: Laszlo Kishalmi
Assignee: Laszlo Kishalmi

Motivation: Java Platforms are getting updated every 6 months now, so there is
more attention on what platform is the user using for running its application.
The IDE already provides Java Platform selection at different places in form a
combo box. Usually both the model and the renderer for this combo box is copy
pasted code in the IDE from module to module. It would be good to add an API
which can create such a combo box.

(was: [~lkishalmi] I tried adding the line you said "run.standardInput =
System.in" into my project but still didn't work. I added it after
System.out.println(myName);

I've tried to execute the main class using the file's context menu like running
the program and cleaning and building but still get the same error.)

(was: [~geertjan] They're both simple scanner projects. I even tried with this
code and it has an issue in Netbeans but not in Eclipse. In Netbeans this
project here works fine but stops before it should say "Is it the weekend?". So
you have to type something before it actually says "Is it the weekend?". In
Eclipse the program works fine.

{code:java}
package gradleproject1;

import java.util.Scanner;

public class Main {

public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner input = new Scanner (System.in);
System.out.println("Enter the # of cigars: ");
int cigar = input.nextInt();
System.out.print("Is it the weekend?");
String weekend = input.next();
System.out.println(cigar + " " + weekend);
   }

}
{code}

(was: In the previous scenario, the output shows "Enter your age" and then you
can type whatever number but now testing it out with this bigger project, it
doesn't even say "Enter a word:". The console is empty pretty much because you
have to type a word and then it'll finally count the vowels. Very confusing
that it's skipping somehow even though Eclipse runs great. When I run the
program in Eclipse, it says "Enter a word: " just as it should. Then I am able
to enter whatever word so it'll count the vowels for me. )
