Seamonkey replaced by NSS ("Network Security Services")
Outdated code from Mozilla that was used to include cryptography services and address book access has been replaced with the more modern and more secure NSS libraries. This grwatly simplifies the build process and source code maintenance and is transparent to end users in general.
End users are affected only in the following ways:
Under Windows XP, trying to add the Windows Address Book as an OpenOffice database; this has always been the case on any newer Windows versions (Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8).
Thunderbird users will not see direct Thunderbird address book support in OpenOffice's address book wizard, but the OpenOffice support for CSV can replace it for now. Users can use Thunderbird's Tools-Export-AsCsv functionality to get their address book as comma separated text.
Authenticated LDAP access is now unsupported (the non-authenticated access was already unsupported).

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 will be flagged by the new Gatekeeper facility in Mac OS X Mountain Lion and Maverick. This is a new feature to help guard against malware on Mac systems. There is a procedure laid out at the following link to allow applications not installed from the Mac App store to run. See the article at Mac support at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5290.
Apache OpenOffice 4.0.0 supports Java 7, which is the recommended configuration; but (especially on 64-bit Windows) you might receive warnings about the Java version being defective. Apache OpenOffice 4.0 se encuentra ahora disponible para su descarga desde nuestra página oficial de descargas. Construyendo sobre el gran éxito de OpenOffice 3.4 que fue descargado más de 57 millones de veces, esta es una actualización principal que trae nuevas e importantes características, mejoras y correcciones de error.
Algo que notará inmediatamente en esta página, en nuestro sitio y en otros lugares es el nuevo logo. El nuevo logo es el resultado de varios ciclos de diseño, colaboración entre diseñadores talentosos y un concurso donde 40 logos fueron votados por más de 5 usuarios.
Deseamos darle un "hola" especial a nuestros usuarios que actualizan. Esperamos que le agraden las nuevas características, especialmente la Barra lateral. Esta característica está basada en código contribuido por IBM desde su producto Lotus Symphony. Hemos adaptado el código, y basándonos en varios ciclos de interacción con usuarios como usted, la hemos mejorado e integrado en OpenOffice.
Y para los nuevos usuarios, ¡bienvenidos a la comunidad! Esperamos que disfrute usando Apache OpenOffice, el paquete de oficina libre y abierto líder.

Nueva barra lateral
La barra lateral es una nueva e importante característica de la interfaz de usuario en todas las aplicaciones de OpenOffice.
La barra lateral ofrece un mejor uso de los monitores anchos actuales con respecto a las barras de herramientas tradicionales. El contenido mostrado por el panel "Propiedades" depende del contexto y muestra secciones con propiedades del documento que son utilizadas más frecuentemente para la tarea de edición que se está llevando a cabo.
