Hi, FYI, I tested it on the original QtExtended 4.4.3 from Nokia, then on QtMoko v14, QtMoko v15 and the recent QtMoko v16. I had no issues with these platforms. Is QtMoko v14 sufficiently recent? It's native to the Qt framework that QtMoko uses and doesn't need an X server. It has a slightly different interface from Navit and tango, but it's pretty easy to get used to. It also does not even run on my FreeRunner: every time I try running it from the QtEI Applications list, I get a dialog saying: Application terminated NeronGPS was terminated due to application error. This is normal. Earlier kernel had pwron as node to control power to GPS and since the change ogpsd just writes to both (and will always complain about one not being there). If you install zhone (which should be possible on SHR) you can open the GPS tab and look at GPS in more detail. The chip will tell you which SVs it is currently looking for and if it is receiving data or not well before they appear in the SHR GUI. I the meanwhile I tried with zhone and it seems to search for approximately 13 different SVs without results for a lng while (around 20 minutes). Power On seems to work since zhone's GPS icon activates after turning gps on through the shr settings gui. Also no time sync or any other value is set. Use settings/position and remove AGPS data - I suspect that it installs with a AGPS data file that by default doesnt suit your location - I cant get a lock without cleaning it out after install, then its fine. I tried to change GPS Antenna and to remove AGPS data but still no luck so far. I will try to change with a third antenna in the next days. Is there a way to see if there is some damage at the gps chip itself? gpspipe and cat produce some nmea data in a 1Hz rate. thats all i can see. but of course no fix data or meaningfull location data. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Yep, that's right: hackable:1 rev5 (Codename: Chuck) is there! First of all, you can grab the different flavours (user for the flash and developer for the SD) here: http://download.hackable1.org/rev5 Changelog Here are the changes since rev4: + End users matters * Most of the software stack now runs under the 'hackable1' user, for security purposes. * SMS proper implementation * The contact list bug has been found and fixed! * Power management improvements, suspend works, bluetooth and wifi are no longer turned on by default. * An application called 'h1settings' can be used to configure phone features, (enable / disable GSM / Wireless / GPS, power management, ...) as well as time and date. * We created a new theme to celebrate this new release! * We got a splashscreen! It features a Chuck figure to reflects the rev5 codename: Chuck * For those who used to love the games on OM2007.2, we put them back ! * Boot time seems to have been improved a bit + Power users / developers matters * This rev5 release has entirely been built from the automatic build system. * A Linux kernel is now packaged in hackable:1, in order not to rely on fso-pkg anymore. o Debugging has been disabled (boot time improvement) o Easier kernel upgrade when using an ext2 partition to store the kernel on µSD cards o Separation of kernel modules in three sets: essential (comes with the kernel), common modules and more modules o You can read a bit on http://zecrazytux.net/Embedded/Hackable1/Custom_Kernel.html * CDBS is now used for some packages. o the package h1packtools contains a CDBS rule that may suffice for simple programs with the autotools o this rule also enables cross-compilation ; it is based on previous works on this subject * Git repositories can now be used as sources for remote projects. Where can I find it? Where can I get it? I didn't understand last time, so I ask again : what is the answer to the ultimate question about life, the universe, and everything? As ever, you can download hackable:1 on http://download.hackable1.org/rev5. All the necessary information can be found on http://trac.hackable1.org as ever, that is documentation, installation instructions as well as known issues. It's obvious that the answer to the aforementioned question is Chuck. Who should I thank for all that stuff? Among the people who worked on this release, the most notorious are (alphabetically): * Marcus Bauer (mbauer) * Jérome Blondon (jbl2024) * Sébastien Bocahu (zecrazytux) * Pierre Pronchery (khorben) * David Wagner (Deubeuliou) We'd also like to thank all the testers, among them most notably Bearstech employees, and regular contributors/users of hackable:1, who kept us going forward. What should I expect next? Due to a very good number of good reasons, which could all of them be summed up by a minute of one of khorben's rants against libgsmd, we'll switch to Freesmartphone.Org for rev6. We will also switch from xserver-xglamo to xserver-xorg for the sake of more responsive graphics. On the developer side, we will of course continue to improve the packaging system and lower the entry barrier. All in all, more reliable GSM suspend, and almost all the features one may need. Stay tuned! Looks nice! Well done! Thanks for your efforts! The only thing that bugs me right now is that I didnt manage to register to the gsm network with a sim card without PIN. With a sim card using pin it did work flawlessy. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: Re: [CU,Templates] DistributionBox template latest changes
[cut] 1) if I look back, yes it was me mistake now I thing is better make Template:DistributionBox for each distribution. It will be better for use on wiki and It will be on all page actual Lets discuss this in separate thread, and after new year begins, as this will be long discussion I suppose, OK? 2) If you want history what distro's versions were working on what hardware, I thing is better start make new page on wiki call something like: History what distributions versions working on what hardware In this system if you wan this information, you must brows the wiki and remember how it's changing Will you create AND *maintain* such a wiki page? If you think you have enough time to maintain another wiki page then you are welcome to do it :), but maybe you could dedicate this free time of yours to take care of many old and outdated wiki pages that need fixing? [cut] 1) it about translating templates and using on localize page on wiki if you use sub-templates, it will be actual also on localize page which use translate Template:DistributionBox I think templates should be universal, not translated. This can be done, but after new year, OK? 2) if some distributions start work on new hardware, it thing it will be written like text on news I do not understand, please explain. 3) I don't know, I'm not programmer... I thing the history page of changing sub-templates can be use automatically on page: History what distributions versions working on what hardware I do not understand. But lets leave this history stuff for now. 4) On wiki: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Distributions In the Names of Distibutions you don't use number of version And what is the question? Because i do not know if you think it is good or bad? Anyway, I'll try to explain according to my knowledge. First of all there is no section called Names of Distributions on this wiki page, so please be precise. I guess you are talking about Overview section? If you are talking about Hardware/Works boxes in Overview section, than I have to admit I didn't know that these templates are used anywhere else besides Community Updates. Now since I know that, it changes my point of view. Those Hardware/Works boxes can't be used to keep history anymore. But they fit nicely to reduce amount of work for wiki editors (like us). What I do not like, is their naming schemes. Now their names suggests that these boxes shows, what software can run under some distro. Additionally you need to keep naming scheme consistent with other templates (do not use spaces). IMHO it need to be changed to reflect their purpose. Example: Template:Works on Android - Template:AndroidSupportedHardware Template:Works_on_Debian - Template:DebianSupportedHardware Template:Works on Gentoo - Template:GentooSupportedHardware ... Do you mind if I ask you to rename these templates according to these examples? In order to help you within this work, I will add these templates to http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Templates page, as they are not listed there. Oops, I forgot to add Template:DistributonBox also, mea culpa. Does everyone agree for this solution? 5) News can use Distributions box and under him write changes now is change in DistributonBox and it make this template useful only for news page I assume you want to make separate Template:DistributonBox for each distro? Lets discuss this in separate thread, and after new year begins, as this will be long discussion I suppose, OK? I hope some of me ideas it will be useful. Kukide Indeed, ideas were useful. I photographedhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/brolin_empey/4209835527/my desk after using Cygwin on my Windows Vista PC to ssh to QtMoko v14 on my FreeRunner via a USB→Ethernet adapter connected to my FreeRunner via a dual-power USB hub, which is powered by a USB charger (AC→DC over USB) with 3 colours of cool but pointless flashing LEDs. This is *so* cool! I set a root password on QtMoko because I do not want anyone on my LAN (not that there is even currently anyone else home! :P) to be able to get root access to my FreeRunner. I used the on-screen keyboard in qterminal on QtMoko to configure the USB logical host mode, electrical host mode, and networking until I could ssh from my PC to QtMoko via Ethernet.
