So what do you have in /sys/class/power_supply/battery/current_now
when idle and not charging ?

Your figure is good. #1024 fix saves you about 4-8mA, a considerable
amount during suspend-to-ram, but you won't notice the difference if
you keep the device in idle but not suspended state.

Hello guys.

This is a regression since rev 2844. I'm personally using a rev26?? on

The patch in the ticket has been applied, please try with rev 2934+ and

need help with wifi on SHR

2010-01-28 Thread Michal Brzozowski
Hi,

I'm travelling right now with my FR and heavily rely on using wifi.
Basically it has always worked after a reboot, until now. I used some memory
heavy program while the wifi was on, and the FR froze. After rebooting,
taking out the battery, etc wifi won't work anymore. Any program that tries
to initialize the driver just freezes.

I'm using the debug disabled kernel, so don't have any debug information.
Any hints on what could've gone wrong and why it persists after reboot?

Thanks,

weren't added to MG.
Does your OSM map version match navit's revision? If you use an old OSM

work because of changes in the datas.

That revision with fix is also building now here.. I'll provide links
for test soon.

Those nightly builds are still build with om2008 toolchain? And also in
shr we have navit splited to 2 .ipk (navit as app and navit-icons with
only pngs), and also splitted configs in smaller easier managable files
with shr customized config.

So it's a bit more difficult to switch between navit from shr feed and
navit feed, but it's no problem to build newer navit in shr feeds almost
daily too (if someone is willing to test it before syncing it to all
users..).

I wrote a GPS logging GUI that uses FSO for GPS and power control. It's
simple and never supposed to get a map.
My main target was to do track logging (start, stop, split) and be avoid
supsend when logging. You can specify a minimum battery capacity needed to
log (otherwise it will stop logging).

You can find an ipk here [1], source here [2] and screenshot here [3]. There

Please report bugs - otherwise this version will become 0.2 (0.1 was only

I tried to have a look at it but I have some issues with SSH on my SHR

How hard would it be to implement an 'auto gpx converter' that'd
convert unconverted tracks to GPX every time one presses stop or
split? I think I know the reasons for custom file format but it'd be
very nice to be able to directly upload the files somewhere, not
having to first need to convert them to GPX.

Thanks for the app! Could you upload it to opkg.org?

Your figure is good. #1024 fix saves you about 4-8mA, a considerable
amount during suspend-to-ram, but you won't notice the difference if
you keep the device in idle but not suspended state.

Ok, make sense.
So I checked charge_now during suspend (measuring before and after
suspend of course) and it seams that the battery is then discharging
at the rate of 23mA, which leads to a total of approx 50 hours.
Much less than expected. :(

Does your OSM map version match navit's revision? If you use an old OSM
map, or a newer OSM map with a given revision of navit, it may fail to
work because of changes in the datas.
the planet.bin I use is from January 15th.

BTW : there are daily build of navit for the FR here :
 http://download.navit-project.org/navit/openmoko/svn/
They are built nightly, but it's also possible to trigger a build during
 the day.
I know! The problem is that in the SHR feeds the navit packages have an
additional versioning which allows the installation of the svn packages
only, if you disable the feeds before.

Please test it from this files and let me know.. if everything works
I'll push it to oe.dev and then build it in official shr-u feeds.

Re: Latest SHR-?

2010-01-28 Thread William Kenworthy
Interesting - cant say Ive noticed anything bad - quite the reverse.

Everythings working and and some things like GSM serial port access are
far better/more reliable than before. Then again, the extra changes I
did involve patching a few things, turning off more debug, using the
slub allocator instead of slab, and -02 instead of -Os.

No benchmarks other than it seems justified as far as
speed/reliability go compared to the old debug kernels and works well
with shr-t :)

shr-testing is probably the most usable out-of-the-box at the moment.
Only a few annoyances rather than show stoppers.

IMHO best way is to install both shrs on different partitions and switch
to 2nd if something goes wrong.

The current kernel has most debugging disabled and though I used the
default briefly (modified it for more speed soon after!), it seemed
  quite fast as is.

No.. it's not disabled anymore (after few users reported that they see
 more issues with nodebug/nopreemt kernel).

I'm not using shr-t or any .29-rc3 kernel, so I cannot comment. But on
shr ML and trac there was few reports about not getting GPS lock or GSM
channel (even with debug kernel) and at least 3 people said that they
are having this problem more often with nodebug kernel.

So I asked spaetz (maintainer of shr-t) and he said that we should
rather revert back to debug (as it's slower but as some say more
stable). If we want to test nodebug kernel, we should do it rather in
shr-u and *after* testing use it in shr-t too.

Re: [ANN] Freerunner GTA02A7+ on regular sales

2010-01-28 Thread Dr . H . Nikolaus Schaller
Dear all,
to further improve the Freerunner hardware, we have done another
upgrade and are now the first to sell the new variant GTA02A7+ from
stock.

The difference to the A7 is that the #1024 rework (recamping bug)
has already been applied. Therefore the A7+ device now has a much
longer standby time in the case that the Calypso GSM modem goes to
sleep mode (AT%SLEEP=4).

The product link is

http://www.handheld-linux.com/wiki.php?page=Neo%20Freerunner

If you already own a A5/A6 or A7 device, we offer the rework as well,
but you have to ship the device to us which needs approx. 2 weeks
turnaround time:

http://www.handheld-linux.com/wiki.php?page=1024-Rework

Nikolaus

PS: if you go to FOSDEM next week, please come to my presentation. I
may give a glimpse what could come after GTA02A7...
http://www.fosdem.org/2010/schedule/events/gnustep_porting_quantumstep

PPS: our server may respond a little slow today since it is victim of
a DoS attack

Am 12.08.2009 um 11:12 schrieb Dr. H. Nikolaus Schaller:

 Hi all,
we are happy to announce that we and our partner TRISOFT now have the
GTA02A7 models on regular sale and can ship from stock.

What are the differences to the A6 models?

 * PCB revision A7
 * buzz-rework not required (to remove interference from GSM
 transmitter into microphone signal)
 * no capacitor on SD slot required (to remove interference from SD
 card clock to GPS receiver)
 * better recovers from completely empty or no battery

You can easily distinguish the A7 from GTA02A5/A6 devices by the DATE
CODE printed on the label inside the battery compartment or on the
 black box.

 Code 2008 - A5 or A6
 Code 2009 - A7

Although it does not solve all problems that have been reported (which
mobile phone is 100% free of flaws?), the A7 is the best Freerunner we
 ever had!

For those new to this list: the good thing is that it is
 * completely open mobile handheld platform
 * well documented
 * has all necessary certifications (FCC, RTTE, CE, WEEE, ...)
 * is available from stock
 * software is becoming more and more stable (FSO, SHR etc.)
 * a platform with a future (GTA02-core)

 Nikolaus
