After browsing through a few distributions, qtmoko became my choice. I think this distribution is really great! I flashed the kernel and rootfs with uImage-v21.bin and qtmoko-debian-v21.jffs2 respectively and all seems ok, maybe better than ok :-) Only one irksome thing that is turning me away from qtmoko... I can not for the life of me get GPS to work using NeronGPS. I took the following steps after flashing: (1) apt-get gpsd (this starts on booting after a little play with the config for gpsd). neo:~# /etc/init.d/gpsd restart Stopping GPS (Global Positioning System) daemon: gpsd. Starting GPS (Global Positioning System) daemon: gpsd. neo:~# (2) Fire up NeronGPS What happens, is that NeronGPS runs, I can download maps from OM_map, for example. What never hapens is getting a fix. My phone is permanently stuck with the message Wait for fix. Have I missed something obvious here? This is a bug in v21. The sysfs node that turns on power to the gps device has changed. It's now /sys/devices/platform/s3c2440-i2c/i2c-adapter/i2c-0/0-0073/pcf50633-regltr.7/neo1973-pm-gps.0/power_on If you change /opt/qtmoko/bin/gps-poweron.sh and /opt/qtmoko/bin/gps-poweroff.sh to reflect this change it will work. regards Florian In short: Is there a sure-fire way of getting GPS up-and-running? I have not tested it yet, but i think the sysfs files for powering up gps are changed in v21 kernel. I have written about it here and will hopefully fix it for next release: http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/community/2010-April/061383.html Btw the gps device is /dev/ttySAC1 and if you do: cat /dev/ttySAC1 it should print some NMEA messges. If not then gps is probably not powered up. Regards Radek ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: Battery lifetime
Yes, this must be the problem. Thank you for your advise and I'll try to fix this hardware problem. I have a freerunner a7 and I bought it 3 months ago. The battery lifetime is too short... I mean, when I use it as regular computer, a full charged battery with suspends e.t.c. takes almost two days to discharge. But when I insert sim card and I use it as shell phone with 2-3 short phone calls, a full charged battery with suspends e.t.c. takes 18 hours to discharge. So every day I have to change it again and many times in the midday. Where is very small difference on battery discharge between suspended and not suspended. I use QtMoko for OS. Is this issue common on small computers? It's most likely this issue: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/1024 If your freerunner has the fix applied you can activate calypso deep sleep as described on this page.
