Nice. By the WLAN/Bluetooth arrows seem to be pointing at a couple of
minor components (resistors?). The WLAN/Bluetooth is the black square above
the OMAP, isn't it?

Yes, the black square is the WLAN/BT chip. The arrows point to the antennas.
They look similar to resistors.

QtMoko v38 for GTA02

2012-02-03 Thread Radek Polak
Hi,
qtmoko v38 for Freerunner is now available for download from here [1]. For
more information about qtmoko please visit our homepage[2].

Changes from previous version:

  * fixed launching apps with arguments from .desktop files
  * cleaned up debian packages (Gilles Filippini)
  * fixed many compile warnings (Gilles Filippini)
  * alsa state files are now part of qtmoko.deb (Gilles Filippini)
  * using /sbin/wpa_supplicant now (Gilles Filippini)
  * ship logread in qtmoko.deb (Gilles Filippini)
  * mokofaen theme (Joif)
  * fixed mokofaen build segfault (Gilles Filippini)
  * updated doc with missing packages (Tiago Bortoletto Vaz)

Most of the changes since v37 were GTA04 hw adapation. But qtmoko is now much
better packaged and package name has changed slightly (qtmoko-neo_38-1) [3].
This probably means that if you want to upgrade from previous version you have
to remove old qtmoko package and install qtmoko-neo, but i havent tested it.

One thing that i forgot is to increase kernel version - uname will report v34,
but since there were no changes since v34 it's IMO not worth to rebuild the
images and kernel package again. Maybe we should use lindi's 2.6.39 kernel for
any newer versions. Has anyone tried it?

Regards

Radek

FOSDEM 2012: Ready... set... GO!

2012-02-03 Thread Niels Heyvaert

Dear all,

We've been working on the FOSDEM presentation with the people from Golden
Delicious, QtMoko, SHR and Debian. The AoF part is also in, of
course.

The final review is done and we're all set to go.

Our talk has moved from a lightning talk to a 30min presentation in the Open
Mobile Devroom (building AW) starting at 12h00 till 12h30.

See the schedule
here: http://www.fosdem.org/2012/schedule/track/open_mobile_linux_devroom

I'll be passing by the Golden Delicious stand before and after the talk.

Hope to see you all in the Devroom and at the Golden Delicious stand before or
after the talk.

Kind regards,

Niels--

Distro + GPS package suggestions.

2012-02-03 Thread Wes Frazier
I am dusting off my FreeRunner GTA02 and hope to be switching to it for
my primary phone. I have used it to much success in the past but have
always had problems with the GPS and GPS software in general.

I am looking for suggestions as to which distro and which GPS package I
can use together to get an experience somewhat comparable to OSMAnd
