Though I mostly use dfu-util, I've found it has problems when flashing
ubifs. I prefer to boot into an sdcard image and use nandwrite. MUCH
faster, however it does require a functional sd card distro.

I think it's an excellent idea. This seems like a good idea, given
that there are people who are already taking care of hosting other
projects and thus already do quite a bit of sysadmin.

So just to be clear on this: From my point of view the problem is not
to pay for some hosting/traffic every month. If anything else fails,
I'd even pay that out of my own pocket. The main issue is to have
somebody who will actually take care of updating the debian packages,
run backups, make sure things run smoothly and do a dist-upgrade every
couple of years.

But in the end, it is Sean that you have to convince, not me ;)

Harald

covered with a piece of nice fabric to look like a cloth.
This keyboard would probably fit well on the forearm together with the
screen and it would make the whole thing easier to use. I am also
thinking to place the antenna on the outside of the arm, above a piece
of aluminum foil in order to reflect the radiated power and to protect
  the user from RF field.
At the moment I don't have the GTA04, but I can make some rough
drawings from the CAD files (I will need to download them). Would
there be other people interested in this new way of carring your
phone? I previously had some positive comments on the forum about
this, so I think we could probably start a small group if there is
  enough interest.

I'm also very interested in making a wearable out of the gta04, and I'd
buy your design to sponsor its development if it were available.

About the announcement itself, I think it is always good to show new
ideas at early stages. This makes it possible for the community to
orient the development of the project if they see better/different
ways to use it. It also shows the level of interest.

  improving it? Or
should we silently finish some design and work with beta testers

From external point of view, having more information about what is

However, it is you who is actually doing things, it's up to you to
  decide
if to show your eraly prototypes and collect feedback or not.

QtMoko's new keyboard

2012-05-08 Thread Radek Polak
Hi,
while there was discussion about hw keyboard, i was working on software
onscreen keyboard with simple goal: implement the best onscreen keyboard in
the world.

I think i am now very close ;-) The key is to have as big buttons as possible.
Here is picture and video of how it looks now:

http://activationrecord.net/radekp/pub/keyboard.png
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyN7wS66y_I

It still needs some more work, but it's currently very usable and i am really
happy how it works. E.g. the video was taken with N900 in my left hand and
still with the SMS layout i made no mistake.

My plan for now is to finish it up and remove all those 5!! QtMoko input
methods in favour of this one. I can make installable packages of the old
methods if anyone is interested. This should be part of v45. For v46 i can try
to implement customizable layouts and unicode characters.
