Freerunner, strange issues with kernels = 2.6.28; some boot, some don't

2009-04-22 Thread E. Boer
Hello,

I'm still struggling with the newest kernels = 2.6.28. I tried SHR [1],
OM2009 (latest)[2] and Android [3]. All have a kernel = 2.6.28. But
only the kernel of Android works! So I downloaded the latest
Andy-tracking-more-drivers kernel [4] and flashed it to the freerunner
and it works, but the wireless network of this kernel doens't work.
Tried the andy-tracking-more-drivers-stable but this kernel also doesn't
work :-(. Moving to the experimental kernels [5] doesn't work too

Even boot from SD doesn't work :-( I think I forgot
something, but what When I start the Freerunner, the
system says (with experimental kernel [5]) :

freerunner
NAND read: device 0 offset 0x8, size 0x20
 2097152 bytes read: OK
## Booting kernel from Legacy Image at 3200 ...
   Image Name: openmoko/2.6.28-andy-tracking+gi
   Created:2009-04-21 19:41:02 UTC
Image Type: ARM Linux Kernel Image (uncompressed)
   Data Size: 1831744 Bytes = 1.7 MB
   Load Address: 30008000
   Entry Point: 30008000
   Verifying Checksum ... OK
   Loading Kernel Image ... OK
OK

Starting kernel ...
/freerunner

that's it. I've tried u-boot and qi, but the results are the same.

In short:
Only the standard kernel from Android and the
uImage-moredrivers-GTA02_andy-tracking-d1a9cf85c8608601.bin are working.
Other kernels don't.

Maybe there is something with my u-boot / qi environment? Can I clean up
that with dfu-util?

Hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Eddy

Kernel 2.6.28 (still) not running on my Freerunner

2009-03-17 Thread E. Boer
Hello,

Today I tried again to flash the latest images, kernel and u-boot from
the downloadsite of OpenMoko [1].

I have downloaded:

- fso-paroli-image-om-gta02.jffs2
- uImage-2.6.28-stable+gitr0
+f19f259d3c1afde8eae53983fd19f61831927413-r2-om-gta02.bin
- u-boot-gta02v5-1.3.1
+gitr650149a53dbdd48bf6dfef90930c8ab182adb512-r1.bin

and flashed them to my Freerunner, and rebooted. As always with kernel
2.6.28 the phone is dead after the message Starting kernel

I used neocon to reset to the default environment, but it doesn't
matter.

How can I trace the problem?

Thanks

tell us the commands you used to flash the phone, I expect a problem
there. And also the output from each of those commands. Also, make sure
you flashed the phone while booted in NOR.

I used the dfu-util on the cli. e.g.
./dfu-util -d 0x1d50:0x5119 -a kernel -R -D
uImage-2.6.28-stable-xx-om-gta02.bin

[Kernel:]
Opening USB Device 0x1d50:0x5119...

Determining device status: state = appIDLE, status = 0
Device really in Runtime Mode, send DFU detach request...

state(2) = dfuIDLE, status(0) = No error condition is present
Done!
Resetting USB to switch back to runtime mode

[Rootfs:]

The strangest thing is that kernel 2.6.24 is working without any problem
and flashed with the same commands.

[SHR] Kernel 2.6.28 not working on my Freerunner

2009-01-27 Thread E. Boer
Hello,

My first post on the mailinglist :-) because I don't know how to fix
this :-(

Today I downloaded the latest kernel and shr-lite-testing release, ran
into u-boot and flashed my Freerunner. I'm going with my [AUX]-button to
the boot option and pressed the power-button. The screen says that the
kernel was loaded successfully and stopped at starting kernel. I
waited for more then a hour, after then I removed the battery for a hard
shutdown.

The kernel is 2.6.28. Kernel 2.6.24 is booting nice. But I want to know
what's going wrong (kernel panic)? What kind of information do you want
to help me fix this?

Eddy

If there is literally a kernel panic, the AUX light will be flashing at
 about 4Hz.

No flashing AUX light nothing, the phone is dead no any reaction.

Where did you get the kernel from? Is there a git hash on the filename?

I grabbed the kernel from
http://build.shr-project.org/shr-unstable/images/om-gta02/

The hash is:
gitr34240a1c06ae36180dee695aa25bbae869b2aa26-r2-om-gta02

on shr-testing the new kernel won't work anyway. The included version of
frameworkd is missing the necessary changes...

For the new kernel you have to use shr-unstable right now. This will
changes with the next testing image... which will be due, when we have
sorted out one or two problems of the current unstable image.

phew It's not my Freerunner :-) ... just the software. I will
switch back to unstable until the new image is released.

Keep up the good work!
