Re: Debian on FreeRunner
Hi! Thanks for sharing the information! I managed to get calibration right by copying the xglamo and libts.0* files from 2007.2 image to debian and starting xfce via ssh. It worked then with the standard /etc/pointercal from the 2007.2 image. But I then had the problem, that gdm didn't recognize the ts anymore at all and only if I started xfce by ssh did it recognize the ts. Mysterious problems, but I am sure that they will be solved soon! good luck, edistar On Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 6:20 PM, Gregoire Gentil [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello, After much efforts (but thanks for the page ;-) ), I have managed to install this on my microSD card: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Debian I can reach the gdm screen but the calibration of the touchscreen is totally flaky. After another set of painful efforts, I have managed to install libts-bin and run ts_calibrate. If you want to know, you need to do this from the terminal over the USB-connection: export TSLIB_CALIBFILE=/etc/pointercal export TSLIB_CONFFILE=/etc/ts.conf export TSLIB_PLUGINDIR=/usr/lib/ts export TSLIB_FBDEVICE=/dev/fb0 export TSLIB_CONSOLEDEVICE=none export TSLIB_TSDEVICE=/dev/input/event1 ts_calibrate I get some numbers on /etc/pointercal but there are quite different if I run ts_calibrate a few times. In any case, the touchscreen is still totally mad and I can't use xvkbd to input the login info. In the best case scenario, the pointer is around 200x200 pixels NW from the touch. Then, I have played with xorg.conf. I have tried the rotate option and many other things, but unsuccessfully. Any idea? Official Reseller
Hello World, Hello Steve! Considering that Neo Freerunner phones can be preordered now at TRIsoft[1] I (and several others) are wondering if TRIsoft is the official reseller for Europe? This question has arisen because Christian Pulster has claimed that an agreement between TRIsoft and OM inc. is non-existant[2] and bases his status of an official reseller on a press release[3]. The question is: Who is correct? Has there been an agreement? Or is this just another case of miscommunication? I would be pleased to get an official answer from an employee. Re: Rumors of OpenMoko's demise are greatly exaggerated
Exactly, and as far as I can see Openmoko has come a long way. And the hardware is important too, I really like the GTA02 and am looking forward to buying it. Once Openmoko is a stable and powerful OS I will be able to do so much with it. Much better than an OSS-android and CSS software by the manufacturers of the specific phones. Also I wouldn't be looking forward to googles ads on a mobile.. Just imagine getting ad-sms based on your regular personal content! So, I think there are enough reasons why Openmoko is better, and FIC would be very thoughtless to let it die.. But I would be very interested by an (un)official statement by one of the openmoko guys about android! ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

I think it's a good default as it reuses the users knowledges from t9 systems. It's important to be easy to pick up. It could learn which letters a specific person uses to type and make them more prominent. Reason for openmoko - bugsafe?
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/92713 Hello Openmokoers! This is actually the reason that I got to read about the openmoko, I read an article about mobile phones being bug-able some time ago and googled for an open linux phone. And I found the openmoko ;) Just a quick question, what the police are doing, described in the article, is this only software or can that be done with only the gsm chip or so? My question is actually: Is the neo protected against this kind of bugging or not? It's not that I'm a terrorist or so but I just don't feel very safe otherwise ;) Greetings, Edwin Lock PS: Sorry, the article is in german.. ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: Support for Left handers
Hello, I heard that red/green colour 'illness' (the most colourblind people just can't see any difference between red and green or blue and green, like me:P). So one could just avoid these colours to make differences.. For example in gaim on the maemo platform people who have written are marked as red and the others green, or vice versa, I have no idea actually as I can't see it ;). But it is very annoying... Re: Reason for openmoko - bugsafe?
Thanks a lot for all the answers! My main point was if the state, well, anyone who had connections to the carriers, could turn the neo into a bug too.. And it seems that it isn't possible cause of the software mixer being off when the device is off :) And david? I use gmail, yes ;) Luckily I can still control and decide what I write in gmail;) My concern was that the state, or carrier, could arbitrarily record everything in the surrounding. I reckoned they could record my conversations, sadly ;) Just to clarify, I wouldn't use gmail if it grabbed all my TCP/IP output of my pc and searched every file on my pc. As long as I know what google does and gets I am satisfied. I hope you understand. Lastly, why do you get the idea that I choose that phone cause it is more safe? I just got to read about it that way, I plan to buy it because of it's fantastic possibilities, both software and hardwarewise, touchscreen, linux, a lot of apps(ported and native) etc. But I am sure you know exactly why the neo is so great :) Thanks again! ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: Again: Advertising thoughts
But you shouldn't forget the people who aren't so technical and still want to have a phone that can do a lot, there are loads running around with win mobile phones. They won't be attracted by the ads showing how they can be freed, cause they won't care if they are free or not, they just want to be able to use the thing. So maybe some ads could also just show how very easy the neo is to work with ;) Just my thoughts.. ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: Support for Left handers
I am left-handed too. And I noticed on my nokia 770 a lot of interaction is needed on the right side, not only the scrollbar but also the exit button etc. Maybe there would be a way to just turn the window around, left side to the right, and vice versa? Should be a pretty basic thing to implement, in the framework? I would agree, I didn't really think when saying it should be mirrored ;) I thought about it and at the moment I think only the scrollbar should be changed..
