Newbee need direction

2009-01-07 Thread Robin Häggqvist
Hello
Im a newbee. And would love some help to get in the right direction. I have
looked in to pascal(not very useful but good fun) and java(really basic)
when I was in school but that was a few years ago. Im most intrested in
developing small useful application for the freerunner and as a sideproject
will look in to making apps for the Iphone but that is a side project since
I dont have a Iphone yet and its a diffrent story.

Should I start with the developers guide on the openmoko.org or go and buy a
book? Any learn to sites on the web?

What lanugare should I start with?

Does it matter what OS im using on my computer? Im using Ubuntu 8.10.

Im so close to give it up now :-(. I have read
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Openmoko_developer_guide but its many roads
and I seem to get lost or stuck every where I go.

Developers guide for dummies - Eclipse

2009-01-06 Thread Robin Häggqvist
Hello
I might start with that I don't have much developer experience(some
java/Pascal class in school a few years ago) and im trying to setup eclipse
on my ubuntu8.10 machine. I think I have installed it in 3 diffrent
places(first 3.2 version second 3.4.4 version and one 3.4.1 with C/C++
platform). Maybe not too good but there it is.

Im having problem setting it up. Im told to do:
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Development_with_Eclipse
create the managed C project and add `pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-2.0`
both to the compiler options and to linker flags.

and follow the 8 steps on the same page.

I have no ide what the compiler options are or what linker flags are. My
window looks like this.(

Did I start on the wrong end here?
Did I skip anything important since im a dummie and are starting from 0 as a
developer. should I start somewhere else?

Is there a dist with Some hidden Calypso commands included

2008-11-05 Thread Robin Häggqvist
Im looking for a dist that have implemented the magic Calypso commands that
*might* solve the ECHO issue. I just want to flash my FR. I cant compile new
kernels or modules or any of the other cool stuff you kids do. (Some day I
might learn but not today)

2008-09-20 Thread Robin Häggqvist
Hello and I just need to say thanks to all great minds here in the
community. Im a new Linux geek who have played with the phone for just a
few weeks now. It works ... ok. Echo here and there but it will solve.

Ok, The question.
What am I supposed to do with this file?
Om2008.9-gta02-20080916.rootfs.tar.gz
I have unpacked it (with som errorstar: ./dev/hda6: Funktion mknod
misslyckades/faild: Operationen inte tillåten/operation not allowed) and
found files that look importan to the FR. I have tried looking in the wiki
and searching the email. But I someone can point me in the right direction I
would be happy.

 4) GPS
Will I be able to keep maps updated for free?
Will it be possible to make use of google maps, in the sense of having
the indications on how to get from A to B?

Check out OSM project http://www.openstreetmap.org/ They have a good thing
