Re: Using Openmoko in Japan
David Schlesinger schrieb: You'll need to find some hardware to run it on, the Neo1973 won't function in Japan. It's a GSM phone, and Japan's system is pretty much completely WCDMA... Hi David, do you now for sure that the Neo will not work (as a phone) in Japan ? I thought that 2.5G devices might work by selecting the correct provider. Neo does not come with EDGE but with some of the 3G features. Is there for sure no provider in Japan which might be able to support the Neo ? Furthermore, I heard some rumours (several years ago) that the Japanese goverment was discussing to establish a complete VoIP-network in Japan [1]. They wrote that the network might be ready 2007 (which is now :) ) Is someone able to confirm or to give any status about this news ? It might be even interesting to know for the openmoko-people, since if it will be true, openmoko might be able to sell the neo-device even to Japan... a country full of gadget loving nerds ;) (to be political correct please let me say that for sure not all Japanese are nerds ;) ) Bye Torsten [1] http://www.silicon.com/research/specialreports/voip/0,384463,39153339,00.htm ___ Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm. Re: Some ideas for the accelerometer
I guess it might be not to hard to implement your idea. This is an classical example of e.g. fault detection. Used in the industry to identify "strange" sensor signals which might indicate a coming fault in the system. The idea is to precisely identify an odd behaviour long before a complete breakdown and to fix it within the normal maintenance intervals. People developed a lot of algorithms to identify this odd signals. I guess they can be used to clearly separate between walking and an intentional acceleration to interact with the phone. We just need an expert in fault detection analysis. :D Greetings Torsten ___ Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm. Hier gelangen Sie zum neuen Yahoo! Re: Chinese input for OpenMoko
Hi Shu Hung, Shu Hung (Koala) schrieb: Hello, OpenMoko is developed and produced in Taiwan. And I live in HK. Both places uses Chinese as the common language. I would say if this would be a standard commercial product, you are out of luck. I don't need to tell you how many products are produced in China which never ever target the Chinese market at all. I'm just curious if there is any plan for Neo1973 to support Chinese input? If so, in what way? Hand-writing input? Or keyboard input method? That's where OpenSource comes into the game. Even if there would be no initial support, I bet that for within this little group of just 1.3 billion Chinese speakers ;) there would be at least one (maybe you) who is able to port one of the already existing input method editors to the Neo.
