Order from Pulster

2008-08-20 Thread Wolfgang Silbermayr
Hello List!
I wrote directly to pulster two days ago, but received no answer so far.
Maybe something went wrong with the mail delivery.
Has anybody else who ordered from the first bunch of (cheaper offer for
299 EUR) not received it yet?
I received an e-mail from Pulster that they would be getting a new bunch
of devices on August 15, and that I would get one of them. I already
transferred the money, and two days ago wrote the email to pulster, but
I received neither an answer nor the freerunner.

I just received a confirmation from Pulster that my freerunner is on the
way. I can't wait to finally get the device in my hands.

It needs only 2 plastic rings which means three contacts. The fourth

In case you just want to use it for earphones or line-out, the
microphone input contact is short-circuit to ground, which does not
matter at all because it is input.

I have not tried that one yet, but you can take a look at

That's the way I use navit on my laptop.

Seems the maps for single countries are a bit out of date. Near my home,
I think coverage has doubled since the maps were created in january.

Hi Jay!
Actually I would just like to have somebody present the project and tell
what it it is about, what the visions/ideas/possibilities are for the
future. I think it is basically important to get openmoko into the
people's mind. I do neither have enough insight into the project (yet)
nor do I have a Neo1973 to hack on. In my opinion an university like
ours is the perfect terrain to present a device like this because here
tomorrow's developers are educated, and because of the closeness between
our subjects and the skills necessary for openmoko development, there
will be many overlapping interests.
What was the talk at MQ about? Do you have a paper or something that you
can send to me, so I can get an idea?

I personally do like this idea, but I think it's too hard to implent... (I'm
on a Macbook Pro with motion sensors, and it's nearly impossible to detect

What is the sampling frequency of the accelerometers? If it is fast
enough that you can get the information of moving or shaking, it should
not be very difficult to find out wether it has been moved or shaken,
given you collect the samples over time and evaluate them.

Asking for a talk in Austria

Hello OpenMoko people!

I study at the University of Applied Sciences in Hagenberg, Austria
(near Linz). I organize events for our LUG, and I would really love to
have somebody talk about the OpenMoko project. First off, we have some
really interesting studies that relate quite nicely to the topics that
are interesting for OpenMoko:

* Hardware/Software Systems Engineering
* Mobile Computing
* Embedded Systems Design
* Software Engineering
and several others, for a complete list please visit
http://www.fh-ooe.at/campus-hagenberg/international.html

The conditions would be:
* Preferably the speech would be in german, but shouldn't be a big
problem if it is in english.
* The speaker should have a phone with OpenMoko installed so people can
see it in real life
* We pay the travelling costs, although the distance should not be too
far (about 300 to 400 kilometers is no problem *waving to the direction
of Munich*)
* I can't guarantee that we can pay anything else, but if you get in
contact with me, we can talk about it so I can go begging to the
responsible people.

I would really love to have such a talk at our university, so please
just contact me if you are interested.

Greetings from Austria, Wolfgang.

addition we also have a branch of study called Mobile Computing. I think

other people and hoping that the word of mouth will spread the
information. This is just what I will do.

Some ideas

2007-03-01 Thread Wolfgang Silbermayr
Hi Openmoko List!

I have been following the progress of openmoko and I really love how
things are going. As far as I can tell now, I will order the Neo as soon
as it is available.

Here are some ideas that I would really love to see in openmoko:

== Real-time switching of audio sources and sinks during a call ==
When I drive in my car, I usually use the bluetooth headset for talking.
When I arrive at home during a call, I just want to switch the headset
off and continue talking directly on the phone. The other way round
would also be really fine to do - I started a call directly on the
handset and I switch on the bluetooth headset and continue talking over
bluetooth.

== Search by surename and forename ==
I have all people in my telepone book stored with the second name and
the first name. Because nearly all of my relatives have the same
surename as I do, I have a fairly long list when I type in sil which
is the first letters of my surname. Then I usually have to either skip
through this list or write silbermayr completely in because on my
motorola phone I can't just type in a space and afterwards the first
letter of the forename. I would love the phone book application to
simply jump to the entry Silbermayr Wolfgang as soon as I write sil
wo into the search field.

== Make phone usable even without simcard ==
I once had the problem that I lost my simcard when moving it from one
phone to another. From that moment on I could not get beyond the pin
dialog so it was impossible for me to access any contents that were
stored on the phone like my phonebook or my calendar until I borrowed a
friend's sim card. I would love to be able to boot up the phone even
without a sim card. In that case of course all gsm-related functionality
would have to be disabled.

That's my ideas so far.

Greetings, Wolfgang Silbermayr.
