any timeframe and ideas on whether a hw change like adding a kbd would affect?

i mean it would be useful to know things like "gta03 wont exist until q2 2k9"
or "90% of people dont care about keyboard, so if you want that just get a HTC
G1 and figure out how to load up Illume on it.."

i'd vote for touchscreen, so long as the keyboard us usable (havent ever tried
or seen a GTA0[12 myself]

does the system slow to an untenable crawl when playing mp3. i mean can you use
dillo or webkit at the same time comfortably?

whats the CPU usage of mplayer/alsa (no pulseaudio junk etc)

do you have to killall -9 mplayer when a call comes in so the ring sound plays,
or can you use dmix (does that chew much CPU?)

i was a bit too skeptical of GTA03 to make the jump (what with Acer buying
Eten, that new Russian phone on engadget, and the MeizuM8 coming _any_day_now_
and android making linux work on loads more hardware...)

im surprised at the popularity of these 'images' and flashing the entire device

surely a distro with piecemeal upgrade puts less wear and tear on the flash

and debian's lack of USE/config support means you generally get a larger binary
with more stuff enabled - so more wear and tear

whats the big fear anywyas. MTFB is like 1 million rewrites, and you have
hardware and FS level wear-leveling/block-masking anwyays

surely youll want a bigger HD or a phone with 3G and a camera before then

ive temporarily enabled javascript and cookies and cant get the images to
display. even whe copying the img src= link to the location bar.

maybe you want to shrink them down to about 15k each and attach?

i believe the strategy is to order from a local distributor

eg Koolu for north america

you know how in a major city you can find a handful of little stores usually
operated by someone from China or Taiwan, and grab the latest ASUS, or MSI (or
FIC) mobo?

itd be great if those places had some openmoko stock

im pretty shocked there isnt one in Taipei?

SDR chip candidates

2008-07-20 Thread carmen r
are there any SD adc/exciter combinations which are open source and suitable
for OpenMoko? i know of the QS1R project off hand..

GTA02 has 4 radios, 3 of which can transmit (BlueTooth, GSM, 802.11) and one
extremely sensitive to low-power signal (GPS).

im sure the RF coupling / capacitance / crosstalk issues that have plagued GPS
with SD or Wifi operational, add buzzing to GSM etc will be worked out in due
time, in fact i'll be buying a future revision myself..

eventualy it would be nice to get rid of all the radios and consolidate
though...

i guess some kind of folded J-pole might have enough bandwidth to work well on
all the GSMs and 802.11 at once.. 1/4 wl for 850/900 and 3/4 for 802.11..
