I do know that you can flash with images from maemo.org

It should be possible to run openmoko on N800 with some modifications.
 Nokia n800 uses a ARM11 series processor ( OMAP2420 by texas
intruments). So you need to build openmoko against the required
processor.

Re: interface design suggestions

2007-09-24 Thread vivek khurana

 - I understand that you are using the same non-gray color through the
interface (orange) to get some coherence. This can be a good idea to
avoid making bad color choices but we can do better and get:
  a) better usability. using different colors for different categories
of things is a universal and accepted way of improving usability
(think of traffic lights and signals). You shouldn't avoid this
 resource.
  b) better experience. The same color all over the interface can get
 boring quickly!

I would second this. I think OM designers should seriously consider
this suggestion.

 - (strictly design problem) I didn't like the horizontal gradient on
top, really took my attention toward the left, I felt it was a
 problem.

 +1 for this one.

 - Speaking of font sizes notice how by removing unnecessary elements
now I have bigger font sizes everywhere that make everything easier to
 read.

Bigger font sizes is a good option especially for mobile phoens. I
remeber I used to strugle a lot with small font sizes on my Motorola
linux based smart phone.

 - The orange glow to indicate selection of an item: it's a cool idea,
but unfortunately there's little contrast between orange and white
(remember this is a cellphone so we need a lot of contrast). Contrast
between yellow and black is 65%, contrast between the current orange
and white is 43%. Contrast between a selected cell and the cells above
and below also helps, that's why I've removed the glow. A plus about
yellow is that it is intuitively recognized as the most used color to
highlight stuff. Contrast figures are approximate since I don't know
the gamma values of the device in question.

Another good suggestion. Also I would like community/OM designers to
come up witha theme suitable for colour blinds. People with color
disability form a considerable number of mobile users and notice them
struggle with mobile phones all the time.

finish. How long will it take to compile in an average system? I just
read 7 hours somewhere. Did i forget somethings to do? Why is it
taking so long to compile? Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance

Just check, it might have got stuck downloading something instead of
compiling. What happens if you terminate the compilation and start
again?

I am not saying that openmoko team is not doing a good job but the
delay in receiivng phones could reduced a bit. What i said in my mail
is community could have helped in managing this
As it has been pointed out problem is not delayed deliveries but lack
of cimmunications. If core team cant find out time to develop such a
system/website community membes wil be more tahn wiling to help them.
Though they need to spel out there security concerns, so that a
solution can be developed accordingly.

use Outlook or Thunderbird and download all your messages via POP.

I use Gmail. Accept it. Now, if you had a Greasemonkey script that made
Gmail thread the messages, that would be acceptable.

Threaded view in Gmail client works fine ( running under Firefox 1.5

Maybe you should check your settings or write to google.

In which case, we cannot implement the same on the Neo as the source
code is open, and operators will not like that?

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think acceptance test is required when a phone is locked with a
plan. In situations where you can use unlocked phones without
requiring permissions from GSM operators, no such test should be
required.
Probably, acceptance test is applicable to GSM chipset and not the
phone as such.
Btw any documents/pointers on so called operator acceptance test ?

Hmmm - claims to have 4, no mention of the limited
functionality/developer-only caveats, and AFAIK the developer models
have yet to actually ship - so apparently ordered and is re-selling
before having them in-hand. This may well ruin his 100% positive
ratings.

Should this be reported on ebay ?

You can try mokomake file. It has target for compiling qemu and
running qemu. As for direct connection, try setting proxy variable in
