The angle brackets were already in actually. Try the "123" button. Concerning the apt-get problem, maybe you should try another mirror. Hi, am now starting on version 5.4, a bit late... I have found how to fix the keyboard to do the angle brackets: editing .matchbox/keyboard.xml and under G I put So obvious when you once see it - being xml.
