Re: [QtMoko] MokoFaen theme v2

2013-01-10 Thread Yury Sakarinen
Hi, list (and Joif if u still here coz I remember u gonna leave FR dev
for another phone).

Is it possible to use old-school style (Faengo, Finxy? don't remember
now, sorry) icons instead Faience in MokoFaen theme v2? Old icons were
large and very clear and comfortable.

Faience icons seems smaller compared to iPhone and other smart phones
icons.

And given the fact that the screen we have less..

So, need I make (hack) a new theme, or may simply overwrite icons?
Sure, i want stay with small upper menu and other goodies.

Updates:
- new icons based on the Faience icon theme [3], but for now I
updated just a couple of them;

Heh.. there is no another phone (: I'll will be here still for a long
time. I've just an emergency old phone but I still have my GTA02 with me!

We have a lot of screens in QtMoko, exactly which icons do you refer to?
I took a look to old screenshots, in some screens indeed there are
differences in icons size, but they are really few, e.g. in the
applications menu now we have 9 icons but before there were 8.
For matters like this, we cannot modify everything through the theme
config files.
For example, the dialer screen is almost completely customizable through
the theme files, but the application menu is not.

For the latter, you have to look in qtmoko UI code.
So, if you want larger icons in some screen, maybe it is not sufficient
nor to change the icons nor to make a new theme.
Other developers I'm sure can correct me if I'm wrong and clarify this
issue.

Finxy theme, all icons from Main screen.
Icons from Settings, Apps, Mail.. they haven't background and bigger.

 In Finxi, I added a current pressure display (as e.g. 985mb) to the
 top left corner of the homescreen. Where do you think that would fit
 best in MokoFaen?

For a question of order I'm thinking beneath or above the clock, but you
have to play a little with the xml because there is just a little space
IIRC. Otherwise there is free space in the top-middle of the home
screen, between the left bar and the clock.

I really like MokoFaen, thanks!

But I'm a bit confused by all the similar theme names: faenqo, faenqomod
and mokofaen. What's the history there, and is it still useful to have
all these variants? It's a bit confusing for anyone who's not deeply
into this yet.

(For example, if I want to add pressure somewhere, as I have with finxi,
do I have to do that with all 3 of the themes above?)

Faenqo:
is the first theme in chronological sequence, made by cyberesprit.
I don't think it is maintained anymore, but it works and it's cute;

FaenqoMod:
a mod of faenqo theme, made by me and based on the work of cyberesprit.
It works but I don't think I'll update it anymore;

MokoFaen:
is a new theme, it's the ideal prosecution of faenqomod.
I'm currently working on it, and for the foreseeable future it's the
theme that I will update.

To have all of them it's just to give choices to the users, maybe a more
accurate description in the download page could be useful.

Well, yes. But if you have some special request I could manage to add
some features in future releases, or you can simply hack and update the
themes yourself ;)

Thanks for explaining that; now I'll go and try them all out a bit more.

Yes, I think descriptions like you've given above would be nice.

As long as a theme has a continuing owner/designer, I guess it's best to
go through him/her, for consistency of the theme design.

Due to little time I could change just few things, so expect a new
version after July.

Updates:
- new icons based on the Faience icon theme [3], but for now I updated
just a couple of them;

- the title bar has been revised, wifi and gps icons were added [4] ;
- the dialer, the call screen and the PIN box have been revised, some
glitches corrected [5] [6];

In the home screen I also added the Cell Location info box, it should
be in the middle of the home screen, but at least for me it seems to not
work nor in MokoFaen nor in Finxi. I don't know why.

Critics and suggestions are always appreciated.

hi joif,

very nice. I quite like the new topbar. as a suggestion, could you add the
recent calls to the dialer. One usually has a couple of contacts which one
calls more often than others, so this would give direct access to them.

best regards and thanks for the theme
