Thanks Brenda, I spent too many years teaching writing, so I had a small advantage. WRT the sentence below Join Openmoko development. I’ll go back and look at that. Generally, if it’s not necessary I cut it. I removed the Dev Board QT2410, because it was my impression that it was out of date and not critical. I could be wrong on that, if people scream, then adjust. Ideally I would like to see three branches 1. A product branch that forks to all past and future products. 2. A developer branch that forks to all matters software. 3. A community branch that forks to community issues, like projects, blogs, wiki instructions, buying lists, etc There is also some duplication in the various links that needs cleaning up _ From: BrendaWang [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, May 05, 2008 1:20 AM To: List for Openmoko community discussion; steve Subject: Re: Our new Main page of wiki Dear Steve: I notice that you edited the Main page of wiki. Many people don't have good eyes and they should also can read the menu. This is a compromise between too big and including people which use too high resolution. If you have this big resolution, and you don't have any problems on other web pages, you don't have a problem here, right? Adjusting the font size is easy (ctrl-+), except if you use IE (you have to go on View - Text size - Largest if you use IE). Some people use special glasses when they use the computer... you cannot expect this wiki to use 24pt text. People like to see more than just a few words at a time. I want to see the whole page without horizontal scrolling and the whole index table without vertical scrolling. I think I am not the only one. I do not have larger resolution that 800x600 here (very little screen), and really hate too large fonts. I just got access a couple days ago. Most of my focus has been on the .com site and writing some articles of late on our opening the CAD files. Re: Our new Main page of wiki
First Congratulations to Brenda, the Wiki is improving all the time. I thought she had an impossible task. I think the pages are well written, in good clear English. I notice that many people, on IRC for example, for whom English is a second language, are far more meticulous in their expression than those of us who spoil English all our lives. For example the snippet from the complaint would not have been included by someone who had to *learn* English. clare On Thu, 1 May 2008, Federico Lorenzi wrote: On Thu, May 1, 2008 at 7:35 PM, Nick Guenther [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: sounds kind of awkward. And it always has been. Brenda is working the Structure of the site ( like Edward scissorshand trimming kudzu) and I told wolfgang I would do my marketing thing on the front page. I will of course make some suggestions on organization and structure ( you know me raster ) but for now, I will let it rest, as I have other matters to attend to. Perhaps she might help you with your good, yet not so perfect chinese? :) Seriously. I have learnt several languages. I know how hard it is to speak a foreign language. It is damned hard. It's even harder when the language is of a completely different language school (i.e. European vs. Asian languages). The fact that someone can communicate as well as Brenda can, in a foreign language, is simply amazing. It is a mountain of work. Everyone should be as supportive as possible. It is no easy task. The fact that English is just the de-facto one for Open source, should not mean it has to be perfect and written by natives. If it can be understood then it has done a great job already. I clap my hands for Brenda and say keep going and thumbs up for making such a good job of it! ???! :) ACK! The new wiki-mainpage is way better than what it was before. I'm using 1280x1024, like probably many or the most people out there (default resolution for all 19, most 17 and some 20 inch displays). Not everybody has a WUXGA capable monitor, so if the resolution is too high and you are not capable of setting the fontsize and so on in your browser to make it fit for you: get another monitor. I agree with the other few posters on this thread so far that the colours have a bit too much contrast. Good design layout, but it is somewhat difficult to read. Another thing: Introduction for Openmoko sounds a little awkward. It already has the title on the page as Openmoko Wiki and it says Welcome to Openmoko, so there isn't really any confusion that the Introduction is for Openmoko. Re: Our new Main page of wiki
looks great to me... the contrast make sense to put visible some items, but colors depends a lot of the used screen to watch it... so maybe a lighter grey could be better ? I think the structure is more readable now, older is more...not ticky tacky but bric-a-brac I think... informations are not jumping on your eye :) On Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 3:00 PM, Matt Manjos [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I agree with the other few posters on this thread so far that the colours have a bit too much contrast. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Too big? Which resolution do you use? 300x200? Ok, with 1920x1200 many things can be too small (specially flash videos and fixed sized hps) but I think this is also in an usual resolution too small. The solution to make it bigger at my browser is not the right way i think. Many people don't have good eyes and they should also can read the menu. Greetings Bastian thomasg schrieb: | Imho they are too big. So I tell my browser to make it smaller. That is just my opinion. -- Please don't send me Word or PowerPoint attachments. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Somehow you are right. But the menufont is now much smaller than the rest. the old font of the menu is in my oppinion better. but never mind, i know about using ctrl + + and ctrl + mousewheel. i just thought, that many people could have this problem.
