I have to admit it's a little funny that the one customer who bothers to
rock up, does so right at the 'perfect' time :)

People, this project has always been fueled by passion, I doubt any of
the effects are anything other than long term. Just keep doing what you
are doing, nothing is going to change over night. You should know that

2009-05-26 Thread Michal Brzozowski
I always thought that people being laid off is a sign that the company is
trying to stay in business. A sign of a company going down is (where I come
from) sad gentlemen coming to the office and taking out the computers.

Speculating in this thread is not really helping them at the moment, so just
stop it.

Michal.

No, I was not being sarcastic. People were saying their 'thank you goodbyes'
so I wanted to clarify that we are still here, and there is lots of work to do.

I do not know Sven and I never saw him in the office, but he has every right to
interpret and share what he heard. Yes, there were layoffs. There are just
enough people remaining to keep things going (literally) and Sean chose to do
so over shutting everything down. Please try to see things from that
perspective instead of siding with the more negative aspects. Tomorrow, what
remains of us, will go to work and continue to deliver solid FR hardware,
provide re-work solutions and run servers for our customers. If you feel that
is not enough than please jump in and get your hands dirty. The idea of an
open phone started out as a revolution -- now pick up your sticks and fight if
you want it to happen.

It seems to be down to the CEO, a Design Manager and a Hardware Manager.

Either the company had lots of MIA in the Who_is_Who page, or right now
they may not have enough time to present their side :(

OM has been bought out by Microsoft for 2 copies of MS Bob and a case

Is the design team behind the layoffs? Are you part of the design team that

If it's true then there is no more kernel support, no more software

Re: Visit at Openmoko

i think and hope, the moko-project would be also alive if they didn't produce
a new device..

i belive, there are possibilitys, as example gizmo for you
(http://www.gizmoforyou.com/e107_plugins/wrap/wrap.php?3)..

they also created something like a mobilephone (no case, this must be done by
the consumer :p
http://www.gizmoforyou.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_8&products_id=29)

so it's possible to use open smartphones in future too :)

the hope died at last ;)

I do too. I'm very sad, but the freerunner is open, so we can still do a
lot with it.

Thanks Steve, Wolfgang, Sean, Brenda, Michael, Joerg, Tony Tu, everyone.
Thanks.

I'd say your timing was perfect. Your eyes did not betray you, but
it's still too early to draw too many conclusions from what you saw.

I think it may take a few days before there will be any official
information from Openmoko. This is all brand-new and there's still
a lot of dust that has to settle, and not all of the consequences
may be for the worse.

So, no need to panic quite yet :)

Visit at Openmoko

2009-05-25 Thread Sven Klomp
Hi,

I got invited to a conference in Taiwan and used the occasion to stop by the
Openmoko office. I use the Freerunner as my daily phone, hence I was interested
in the people behind it.
When I arrived, the whole office was empty. 10 minutes later they came back
from a company meeting. I had prepared quite some questions but I didn't got
that far. It seems to me that almost everyone just got layed of in this very
meeting.
That's not how I'd imagined the visit :-(
