Great, glad to hear it's been stable for you.

 It does tale some load though:

 PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
 1498 root  20   0  3708  716  384 S  9.5  0.6   2:44.86 fso-abyss

Yes, that's expected, due to two reasons:
* I did not do much work on optimizing this code yet, there's debug statements
in etc. I will take care about that soon.
* Eventually, fso-abyss should not run as an own process doing the forward
virtual serial lines over pty thing to ppp, but rather as a library handling
the data from the virtual serial lines directly. This would reduce a bunch of
turnarounds and copies. It's a lot more work to make this happen though.
Ideally, we'd have multiplexing in kernel, of course...

Thanks for testing!

Strange. Can you run fso-abyss manually before launching the rest of the stack
and hand me its debug output before and after it crashes?

i found out about fso-abyss only recently. I am just switched to it now.
thank you.

what could we do to allow us, users, to be able to learn about this new
things earlier and help test using them? i find that i learn about
things way too late... like this fso-abyss thing and bluetooth

fso-abyss is default in SHR - next image will use it out of box. About
bluetooth - BT support was added ages ago and it was described on wiki

maybe you haven't noticed, but i am trying to be constructive, asking
question what could we do to change this.

it perhaps has been described on wiki but the reality is that majority
of fr owners didn't know it was functional already so it wasn't used.

if this, as developer, satisfies you, well, so be it.

Try to kill the muxer (fso-abyss or gsm0710muxd), frameworkd should
detect that and restart (which will lead to modem restart)
automatically.

Take a look at:

under [frameworkd] set:
  log_to = file
  log_destination = /tmp/frameworkd.log

under [ogsmd] you need to set:
  log_level=DEBUG

Then reproduce the problem, and attach /tmp/frameworkd.log to a ticket.

[SHR-testing] GSM restart, how?

2009-03-21 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi list,
I'm a *very* happy user of SHR-testing. But, in my home's area, GSM
covering for my operator (Wind, Italy) is low, and sometimes during call
i lost my girlfriend. And, here, all OK.

The bad with SHR-testing is that after the line went dead, the Call
application sometimes remains open and if I close it manually with the
X Illume button, I notice that GSM is lost definitively. If I go to
Settings - Phone, it doesn't load the modules or simply says: Could
not connect to dbus, but no button is shown to restart dbus.

I don't know if this is a dbus problem, but with OM 2008.12 all worked
fine also in my home. I need now to restart the Neo to get it work
again. It happens quite often when I'm at home, and it's the _only_
thing that makes Neo unstable for me.

Is there a way to get GSM/dbus work again without reboot?

Thanks :)
