gena2x seems to have found the cause, I had 'Stereo Out Switch' and
'Right Mixer Right Playback Switch' turned off in my alsa settings. Zero
idea how they got like that. The arecord issue is still present though.

2010-11-20 Thread Gennady Kupava
Hi, Timo  list,

It turned out that aplay problem is due to sound card controls
misconfiguration, not some problem with kernel.

Whoose who have this problem, please try following state file:

http://www.bsdmn.com/openmoko/alsa_aplayfail/aplay34_working.state

(with alsactl restore -f aplay34_working.state)

arecord still not investigated.

might be even something in testing, just recently migrated?

Same kernel is used on each device, and same modules loaded (audio

Mostly it would be good to hear from other Debian users if they are
seeing the problem, or if they are not seeing it. Maybe we could then
pinpoint what's causing the problem. My guess so far is that it
wouldn't be kernel related, since I at least have audio perfectly
functional on one device. I wouldn't have even noticed the problem if
I hadn't tested audio on my playground Neo after Paul mentioned it...

I will try to upgrade my working Neo to latest squeeze a few packages

Hi, Timo  list

I've noticed problem with alsa too. Guess that this may be related to
100hz patch, probably need to review neo-specific code in kernel.

I noticed arecord is not working here (in both debian and qtmoko v28
with same kernel based on qtmoko v29 sources), also aplay somehow is
working in qtmoko v28(which is debian stable i think) but does not with
debian unstable (all with same kernel). i can't really say then this
stopped working - i didn't tried arecord for a while and didn't tried
aplay on debian/unstable for a while too.

Hope that 100hz patch will help us to fix some well-hidden bugs :)

Gennady.

Is sharing sound of mplayer output and speech-dispatcher to bluetooth device possible?

2009-12-06 Thread Lothar Behrens
Hi,

I would again ask if there has been any success to let navit speak to
bluetooth headset?

Or if anyone has got speech-dispatcher to use bluetooth device.

I am able to play sound (mplayer + pm3 files) to A2DP. But I am not
sure if both would work (when navit will speak, mplayer should pause).

Below, you will see how I start playing mp3 files over A2DP.

May it only missing something to do the same for navit?
Could I share playing mp3 and navit speech?
Can I extend the setup to also support redirecting speech-dispatcher
output to bluetooth?

Is eventually kill -STOP mplayer, spd-say ..., kill -CONT mplayer
an option to recognize navit saying something?

Start playing my playlist (random)

#!/bin/sh
killall -SIGQUIT mplayer

/home/root/setup-bluetooth-audio.sh

#scramble.py
#!/usr/bin/env python
import sys, random
filename = sys.argv[1]
a = open(filename).read().strip().split(\n)
random.shuffle(a)
for i in a:
 print i

#/home/root/setup-bluetooth-audio.sh
!/bin/sh

export DEVICE=00:1D:82:04:AA:40

/etc/init.d/bluetooth stop
/etc/init.d/bluetooth start

sleep 1

/home/root/SetHeadSetDefault.py

#/home/root/SetHeadSetDefault.py

audio.ChangeDefaultDevice(path)
print path
sink = dbus.Interface(bus.get_object(conn, path),

It would be a nice feature :-)

 Using mplayer -ao alsa:device=bluetooth works, but not spd-say. It
 always comes out of the speaker.

   What does the speech-dispatcher documentation say about selecting
 a sound
 card for output?

 I havent found anyting usefull in the documentation or in the
 configuration files.

   Also try some of the stuff from the wiki:
 http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/
 Neo_1973_audio_subsystem#Driver_Status_3

   Specifically these:

 http://wiki.openmoko.org/images/3/3d/Btcpu_gta02.state.txt
 http://handheldshell.com/bluetooth_pcm
 http://opensource.wolfsonmicro.com/~gg/bluetooth-pcm/bluetooth_pcm.c

   Usage would be something like this:

 $ alsactl restore -f Btcpu_gta02.state.txt
 $ ./bluetooth_pcm
 [play some sound here]

 using 'spd-say Hello' doesn't plays anything on my BT device.

 $ killall bluetooth_pcm

 Here it plays again on the internal speaker.

   The interesting controls of the state file are these:

 20 'Sidetone Capture Volume' - 0 (increase as needed).
 64 'Capture Right Mux' - 'Sidetone' to route playback mixer sound
 into right ADC.
 66 'Capture Right Mixer' - 'Analogue Mix Right' to record right
 channel
   from right ADC.
 67 'Capture Left Mixer' - 'Analogue Mix Right' to record left
 channel
   also from right ADC.
 68 'Playback Mixer Voice Capture Sw' - false to not mix GSM output
 into the
   sidetone.
 69 'Playback Mixer Left Capture Swi' - true to mix left output
 into the
   sidetone.
 70 'Playback Mixer Right Capture Sw' - true to mix right output
 into the
   sidetone.

 (Maybe look at control 22 'Capture Volume' too?)

 Are the settings for the state file above working for you playing
 'spd-say Hello' without modifying the contents from that link ?

 After looking into the code, is there a need for modifying the
 device respect to my neo ?

 This is because I call the following python script before I start
 mplayer with bt support.

 #!/usr/bin/python
 import dbus
 bus = dbus.SystemBus()
 manager = dbus.Interface(bus.get_object('org.bluez', '/org/bluez'),
 'org.bluez.Manager')
 conn = manager.ActivateService('audio')
 audio = dbus.Interface(bus.get_object(conn, '/org/bluez/audio'),
 'org.bluez.audio.Manager')
 path = audio.CreateDevice('00:1D:82:04:AA:40')
 audio.ChangeDefaultDevice(path)
 print path
 sink = dbus.Interface(bus.get_object

mplayer - rtsp - youtube

2009-10-24 Thread Pieter Colpaert
hi list,

is there a mplayer build for moko available that can handle the rtsp
protocol? My ubuntu mplayer (MPlayer 1.0rc2-4.3.3) does the trick, but
not the latest shr unstable mplayer (MPlayer 1.0rc2-4.1.2).

Example vid:
rtsp://v4.cache4.c.youtube.com/CkELENy73wIaOAnGbz7NeJeeixMYDSANFEIJbXYtZ29vZ2xlSARSBXdhdGNoWglDbGlja0xpbmtgqZW17Zb0qbRKDA==/0/0/0/video.3gp

The mobile version of youtube (http://m.youtube.com) uses this to play
their videos on mobile devices. I think it might be interesting to
create a youtube browser this way.

It depends on what features you know about/need ;)

Comparing with btrfs [1], with ext2/3 (and the upcoming ext4 [2], which is not
more than another patch over ext2) you can't do:

- object level data mirroring
- Subvolumes and snapshots
- fs level raid
- online fsck
- fsck 1 TB filesystem on less than a couple of days ;)
- Never run out of inodes. ext4 still (we're on 2009!) suffers from this one :(
- Online FS growth and shrinking
- FS level compression
- Online defrag (*)
- Tail packing (*)
- And much more

(*) also supported by ext4, but not ext2/3

Although many of that features are useles for devices like Freerunner, some
other would make a difference: dynamic inode allocation, tail packing, fast
and online fsck...
And reiserfs is the closest to btrfs we have on OM kernel :)

What is true is that kernel developers are making clear that ext4 is not the
future fs, but the interim fs until btrfs makes stable

root partition, or another one? remember you need the kernel in ext2/3 or fat

disk format is still subject to change, so a kernel upgrade may mean you can't

[SHR-U] mplayer audio perfomance

FW: [balr...@gmail.com: Re: Mplayer patch for glamo MPEG decoder]

is there someone brave enough to continue with balrogg's work?

- Forwarded message from andrzej zaborowski balr...@gmail.com -

Subject: Re: Mplayer patch for glamo MPEG decoder
From: andrzej zaborowski balr...@gmail.com
To: Martin Jansa martin.ja...@gmail.com

Hi Martin,

2009/9/8 Martin Jansa martin.ja...@gmail.com:
 I've updated them for latest mplayer code and used them in OE repo.
 http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/community/2009-July/051593.html

Many thanks, I've merged your changes into master of that fork repo.
Let me know what your username is if you want to use that repository
for development.

 Thomas White (developer of glamo DRI driver with KMS support) suggested
 to use DRI for this MPEG decoder access. I'm not as experienced as you
 are, my skills and time were hardly enough for merging your patch with
 modified configure/Makefile and few other small changes in upstream.

Yes, I think using that DRI for the decoder access would be the way to
go, also perhaps using one of the new frameworks that popped up in
mplayer. Unforunately I won't have to time to work on that and I
might not have the required skills either, I've never done advanced
graphics stuff.

 Are you still interested in mplayer glamo code? Have you tried to push
 your patches upstream (I haven't found any e-mail about that in mplayer
 ML)?

I've never tried to push them because I wasn't sure my approach was
correct, I suppose the use of the hwmp4 codec that I added has now
either been obsoleted upstream by a similar codec added by somebody
else or there is some new entire frame that obsoletes all the
passthrough codecs. Now I won't have time to work on it and the other
demotivator is that the number of GTA02s that have been produced with
the glamo chip is limited and the new models I hear will not have it.

Thanks for your work on making the mplayer fork usable on Neo so far.

Cheers

I'm not able to distinguish between sound of tremor/ffvorbis/vorbis, so
low accuracy is anough for my ears.

Does this version need the -ac flag?

-r12 yes.. it even used ffvorbis by default and then failed with
Unsupported instruction (will investigate later if someone interested in
vorbis floating point version on arm)

-r13 and -r14 have -ac set to tremor,mad in config file installed in
/usr/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf

I made a small bash test-suite mplayerTest.sh in [1], which I used to
test available binaries for features (which -ac fails with them) and for
performance (real/user/sys time from time command) see mplayerTest.final
in [2] or more details in mplayer.log in [3].

If you have some interesting binary, please send me your results or link
which version should I test with my testfiles.

Conclusion from test:

1) tremor is really way to go without FPU on neo.
2) mad (fixed point implementation of mp3 decoder) performs also better
on neo than ffmp3, but not as significantly asi tremor/vorbis.
3) only binaries without tremor support are sad to say old glamo version
mplayerOG and mplayerUN from shr-unstable feed.

My upgraded mplayer with rebased glamo patch works for me now only on
shr-unstable. On my experimental install with xorg from git it's
rendered somewhere (or at least it seems so from logs), but nothing is
shown on display. And sdl -vo even makes xserver to segfault imediately.

Maybe I'll try to build updated binaries with external tremor from xiph
upstream
1) svn://svn.xiph.org/trunk;module=Tremor;proto=http
2) svn://svn.xiph.org/branches/lowmem-branch;module=Tremor;proto=http
3) internal tremor but with disabled tremor-low
but last time I checked it was the same from performance POV.

[shr-u] Bluetooth (was mplayer with glamo and audio working?)

As Arne said, i'm not saying that bluetooth doesn't work : i'm saying that
bluetooth pairing (using a script works, but isn't convenient) or handling
(switching the link to the headset on/off is a pita) needs something more
polished: even if i do like scripting my phone, some things need a
convenient gui, for the use cases where using a script isn't convenient. And
even if the shr guys did a great job so far (shr-settings is really
helpful), it would be really nice (at least for me) if that gap could be
filled.

Switching the headset on/off depends of FSO, i guess?

c_c, any support planned for mms in launcher? Or does it relies upon FSO?

  Yup. Though I'm planning on automating it in launcher. Any idea how
launcher can know if the phone has resumed from suspend?

KaZeR wrote:

  I'm near finishing CSM support. Once that is done - I want to implement
categories in Contacts too. I'm thinking of something on the lines of
Family, Friends, Work and Misc to begin with. Usual toolbar on the top to
switch between categories.
  Then, I'm also looking at adding support fro vcards (receiving and
sending). Any ideas if there is a library to parse this?
  MMS can come next - if someone can point me to how it's done and test what
I produce ;-)

   Presumably mplayer was compiled with support for audio on Linux systems,
so the option '-ao alsa' ought to do the trick.

that's putting it mildly.
in its current state it is unsable. we had taht discussion a while ago in

the same as the last time taht discussion surfaced: headset.
the idea of rebooting the entire phone just to switch from bt headset back

if that issue has been solved now, at least nothing was posted here.

One of the reasons of getting a FR in the first place was the BT chip
inside. In .nl, a headset is compulsory while driving a vehicle, and I
have a headset for that reason.

I've been able to make 1 (one) successful call with the headset, and I
had quite some hoops to jump through in order to get it to work (Paul
helped me immensely there, by the way!).

So, basically I'm still looking forward to a button that says
'reconnect to BT Headset' or 'disconnect from BT Headset' in SHR
settings (in 'Connectivity?'), since, indeed, most people have and use
1 headset.

patch for shr/import here:
http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/community/2009-July/051593.html
or package request in shr trac

I use it for watching few video podcasts sometimes.. but without

  Intone-video has some issues - since the standard mplayer is slow but
supports setting window sizes and location with the -geometry flag.
  The glamo patched one is faster but doesn't support window settings. The
window covers the slipshelf and leaves odd artifacts after exit. So
development is kinda stalled.
  If I can get a better patched mplayer - one that supports the standard
flags - I'll get intone-video working the way it should.
  Can you help?
  Actually we need a single optimised build of mplayer that has all the
relevant patches (tremor / glamo and some that I might have missed).

From my measurement no tremor patch needed see my comment in
http://shr-project.org/trac/ticket/437
All 3 implementations of low accuracy integer based Tremor performed quite
the same (much better than libogg decoder using floating point), so it
doesn't matter which one is used as far as user sets Tremor as preferred
ogg decoder with -ac parameter (when there are both decoders in mplayer
enabled).

i tried your binary and it is working with standard shr-unstable, thanks!
audio and video (glamo) are working and in sync, so the problems were
connected
to the old mplayer code. cpu load is around 30 %.

but unfortunately something changed in the glamo code. the video output now
has many big artifacts with -av glamo. this was not the case with the old
mplayer-glamo from

btw, seems to be a good community here. i got my neo a week ago and

[shr-u] mplayer with glamo and audio working?

2009-09-03 Thread Mario Hülsegge
hi,

i just tried the glamo-accelerated mplayer version from
http://downloads.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb/openmoko/mplayer-glamo.tar.bz2 and
followed the instructions on the wiki
(http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Video_Player).

videos can be played, but 2 problems occured:
- audio works only if i start intone before i watch a video
- if audio is there, mplayer tells me the maschine is too slow and the audio
gets out of sync with the video.

the second problem is known, but should have been resolved, as it it is said
here: http://www.mail-archive.com/community@lists.openmoko.org/msg34795.html

so, is mplayer-glamo still working with latest shr-unstable? has anyone tried
it recently?

Hi,

Mario Hülsegge wrote:

  Could be because you need to insmod snd-pcm-oss for the audio to work.

Mario Hülsegge wrote:

  After trying both the mplayer-glamo and the mplayer-low versions I can say
that neither really seems to solve the issue.
  Probably more tuning of mplayer is required - or perhaps there is another
problem that needs fixing. Playing 320x240 (prescaled and rotated) with
sound seems about ok. Anything bigger creates issues.
  The video playing part needs a lot of work - and there aren't too many
people interested (or so it seems :-)

First I had to apply patch from attachement to even compile it in OE ;).

 Both the exa-via-dri and dri-aware branches of xf86-video-glamo will be going

 issues, and has an added bonus of being much simpler. The kernel parts of
 KMS necessary to get an old-style fbdev Xorg driver running are working
 already, this part is about making our Xorg driver use the KMS framework.
 I'll send an email to OM-Devel to clarify this when this next stage of things
 is working.

I'm looking forward to test it.

 But anyway, are you interesting in making the mplayer driver use DRI? If so,
 that's fantastic - it'd allow cooperation between Xorg's acceleration and the

I'm quite interested, but the problem is that I'm interested in too many

Mplayer with rebased Andrzej Zaborowski patch for -vo glamo

2009-07-20 Thread Martin Jansa
Hi,

sorry for delay, my previous post of this patch was stopped by too
large attachement rule, sorry for this still quite big gziped one.

In attachement is patch for OE repo (for shr-import branch few weeks old),
which will add support for -vo glamo in mplayer_svn.git.

I rebased glamo patch from Andrzej Zaborowski
http://repo.or.cz/w/mplayer/glamo.git?a=shortlog to last mplayer svn revision
29415, sofar it works for me.

In OE mplayer there was
--enable-tremor-low enable lower accuracy internal Tremor
enabled, but I'll check if external tremor performs better.

I'll post it there after some testing here, it works for me, but I'm

I would like to update it directly in git repo [3], but I need to get

  Well, I'm assuming you're asking about intone. Intone is present in the

  Yet, since intone is still being developed, the latest (but not

 Did you set the music home directory first? By default it points to
/home/{user}/Music.
You'll need to select the directory where your music is stored - for eg I
have the music
at /media/card/Music - so I select that as my music home directory. The
first time - intone
automatically scans this directory.
 Later - if you make any changes - you can recan by pressing the rescan

Yes. I've set my music directory to /home/root/Cosas/Musica (I have to close
and reopen songs manager to make it show the updated entry), but my
collections is not scanned, even if I force it pressing (Re)scan Songs Dir

I've even tried to symlink my music dir to /home/root/Music (default music

I'm using latest unstable shr upgraded today, and I've tried with your package

Might be that is my problem. I have my music organized on Directories by

If I select directly some directory which contains music files, all works ok.

Where can I get a compatible id3lib package from? The one in angstrom's

Hi,
  Here's the latest version. Changes :-

 * better (and more stable) music scan routine
 * support for mp3/ogg tags
 * search by artists
 * other minor fixes
 * 1 regression - the duration slider is jumpy - will sort that out in the
next release

  To get the tags - please set your root music directory under songs. That
will rescan the
music and read tags into the database.

  I have updated the svn too. This ipk will work with the -02 version of
e-libs. Let me know
if other versions are required.

  Also - please post feedback.

 I have not yet added the paroli like jump icon. Will do that soon.
