openmoko-panel-plugin for current kernel and FSO
Hi, I revived the old openmoko-panel-plugin. The project is abandoned by its authors, but I decided to revive it, at least on my OpenMoko FreeRunner running Debian Sid. I dropped support for older kernels and old FSO implementation, because I have not enough resources to mantain them. At the moment consider it just a personal project, but you can find the souce, a tarball and the Debian package: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openmoko-panel/ I renamed the project openmoko-panel, the Debian package conflicts with openmoko-panel-plugin. I wish to thanks the developers which wrote the software and realeased it under a free license: xaos x, Sebastian Ohl and Christian Adams. Any feedback is apreciated. -- Niccolo Rigacci Firenze - Italy Tel. ufficio: 055-0118525 ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Debian sid, openmoko-panel-plugin: battery dbus broken and abnormal CPU usage
Hi to all, after a recent upgrade the battery icon on the openmoko-panel-plugin stopped to work. It seems that the dbus interface changed from: mdbus2 -s org.freesmartphone.odeviced \ /org/freesmartphone/Device/PowerSupply/battery \ org.freesmartphone.Device.PowerSupply.GetInfo to this one: mdbus2 -s org.freesmartphone.odeviced \ /org/freesmartphone/Device/PowerSupply/3 \ org.freesmartphone.Info.GetInfo Is it normal or something is messed with my dbus/fso settings? Also i see an high CPU usage by openmoko-panel-plugin and fsodeviced, but may be it is caused by the panel querying the wrong dbus interface. Here are the packages I installed: linux-image-2.6.34-openmoko-gta02 20101212.git049b71de-2 dbus 1.4.16-1 fso-config-gta02 20100210 fso-deviced 0.9.5+git20110805-1 fso-deviced-openmoko 0.9.5+git20110805-1 fso-frameworkd0.9.5.9+git20110512-2 fso-usaged0.9.5+git20110805-2 openmoko-panel-plugin 0.12-1 -- Niccolo Rigacci Firenze - Italy Tel. ufficio: 055-0118525 ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
[debian] openmoko-panel-plugin fix for 500mA charging
For the brave band of Debian users... openmoko-panel-plugin has a bug which prevents the button to force 500mA charging from working. When moving applications to using interprocesscommunication (such as DBus), applications need to cope with all kinds of startup and shutdown orders, as well as servers that are restarted during the lifetime. Re: [debian] openmoko-panel-plugin v0.6
Hi Sebastian, Thanks for you work on this. I just finally got Debian running on my FR with xfce and I'm trying to get openmoko-panel-plugin to work properly. I'm running into two problems: 1) Startup Launching from .xsession doesn't work. I am running as a non-root user using the following .xsession: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat .xsession #!/bin/sh openmoko-panel-plugin & zhone & xfce4-session I get the following in .xsession-errors: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/openmoko-panel-plugin", line 1679, in icon = PanelPlugin(dbus_object) File "/usr/bin/openmoko-panel-plugin", line 78, in __init__ self.configReader() File "/usr/bin/openmoko-panel-plugin", line 101, in configReader self.appendIcon(plugin) File "/usr/bin/openmoko-panel-plugin", line 105, in appendIcon self.icons.append(GSMIcon(self.dbus, self)) File "/usr/bin/openmoko-panel-plugin", line 668, in __init__ UsageIcon.__init__( self, dbus, "Turn on GSM", "Turn off GSM", "GSM", parentObject, "gsm" ) File "/usr/bin/openmoko-panel-plugin", line 524, in __init__ self.resourcestate = self.dbus.usage_iface.GetResourceState(self.resourcename) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/dbus/proxies.py", line 68, in __call__ return self._proxy_method(*args, **keywords) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/dbus/proxies.py", line 140, in __call__ **keywords) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/dbus/connection.py", line 622, in call_blocking message, timeout) After the system is up, I can successfully start openmoko-panel-plugin manually. 2) Scrolled of the right edge Once started manually, I can only see the leftmost 1 or two icons. The others are off the right side of the screen. I notice if I change the panel size to the smallest (16) I see almost all of them, but still seems to clip off the right, but at this size, its too small to be useful. Perhaps the width is not being calculated correctly? I also notice that when I added wicd for wireless, which adds another icon, it pushed openmoko-panel-plugin icons further to the right. Here's the package I'm working with: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache showpkg openmoko-panel-plugin Package: openmoko-panel-plugin Versions: 0.6-2 (/var/lib/apt/lists/pkg-fso.alioth.debian.org_debian_dists_unstable_main_binary-armel_Packages) (/var/lib/dpkg/status) Description Language: File: /var/lib/apt/lists/pkg-fso.alioth.debian.org_debian_dists_unstable_main_binary-armel_Packages MD5: 91e0d1a51beeb04950500e2d038586f4 Reverse Depends: fso-frameworkd,openmoko-panel-plugin 0.5-1.3 Dependencies: 0.6-2 - fso-frameworkd (0 (null)) python (0 (null)) python-gtk2 (0 (null)) matchbox-keyboard (0 (null)) python-notify (0 (null)) python-dbus (0 (null)) python-cairo (0 (null)) notification-daemon (0 (null)) Provides: 0.6-2 - Reverse Provides: Thanks ...cj On Thu, 2008-11-20 at 09:39 +0100, Sebastian Ohl wrote: > Hi everyone, > > after some work we are happy to release a new version of the > openmoko-panel-plugin (0.6). the openmoko-panel-plugin is a gtk based > plugin for the nice bars in common windowmanagers like xfce or gnome. it > shows you status' of i.e. your battery or your gps and i.e. handles > keyboard applications. > > Changelog: > porting the software to fso framework milestone 4 > > this is just a porting release. new features will arrive as soon as > chris merged his new module structure with the new release. > > it can be downloaded from our project page: > https://projects.openmoko.org/projects/panel-plugin/ > or via the pkg-fso debian repository (apt-get install > openmoko-panel-plugin) > > i hope that all your problems with the old version and the new milestone > now vanished. > > regards > sebastian > > > > > ___ > Openmoko community mailing list > community@lists.openmoko.org > http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
[debian] openmoko-panel-plugin v0.6
Hi everyone, after some work we are happy to release a new version of the openmoko-panel-plugin (0.6). the openmoko-panel-plugin is a gtk based plugin for the nice bars in common windowmanagers like xfce or gnome. it shows you status' of i.e. your battery or your gps and i.e. handles keyboard applications. Changelog: porting the software to fso framework milestone 4 this is just a porting release. new features will arrive as soon as chris merged his new module structure with the new release. it can be downloaded from our project page: https://projects.openmoko.org/projects/panel-plugin/ or via the pkg-fso debian repository (apt-get install openmoko-panel-plugin) i hope that all your problems with the old version and the new milestone now vanished. regards sebastian ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

I really appreciate all the work and suggestions on this project. This panel makes a great addition to zhone and almost eliminates the need to have any additional panels running (such as fbpanel or gnome-panel) for normal phone usage. One question, is there an easy way via gui or .conf file to adjust the size of the panel. I have fat fingers and the icons are a bit small for me to hit without grabbing a stylus. If the panel was say, 40p tall then I think it would be a bit more accessible. Thats the size I currently have fbpanel set to. And where can i follow the changelog between the new openmoko-panel-plugin versions? You mean you want to get rid of the red slashed circle for the others as well? I'm surprised: I thought it was a good idea. Here are some comments: - you probably intend to add more config options, but currently most/all tabs only contain an "enable/disable" button. That would be better served with a single "power" tab which collects the enable/disable buttons for every device. - The "GPS off" icon doesn't use the read slashed circle contrary to all others. - The tooltips seems to only say "on" or "off", so they really are useless (if not harmful) since that info is already given by the icon. So most of those tootips should be removed, or replaced with something useful (e.g. wifi network to which we're connected, whether we're connected to the internet, status of the battery, number of GPS satellites in view, ...). >> * power: >> * on short press: for now nothing happens >> * on longer press (>2 sec) window with buttons opens: >> * suspend (functional) >> * shutdown (for now non-functional) >> * close (closes window) > This is a really nice feature but it collides with the zhone power > button behaviour. This said I don't like zhone's power button, so I'd be happy to disable that one. openmoko-panel-plugin is a lot better, tho I still think the power button should mostly be bound to a form of "lock". I.e. it could put you in a "lock" mode where you can take several actions, one of which being "unlock", others being "shutdown" or "suspend" (and the suspend should be performed by default after 30s). I.e. basically make your menu a bit more difficult to use so it can double as a lock, rename "close" to "unlock", and add a timeout that makes it suspend. I know, and I don’t like the situation either. Some important mails are only sent to one list, other discussions are cross-posted to more than one list and every second mail I read I have read twice. I consider pkg-fso to be strictly related to Debian _packaging_ issues. In that sense, the mail was sent appropriately (as it was a request for inclusion in Debian), but a separate release-announcement for the general audience to smartphone-userland would have been good, I guess. But I think this stuff will settle after a while. At least I don’t think that adding or removing mailinglists, or putting up written (and soon outdated) guidelines helps. But yes, every user of Debian on the FreeRunner is invited to join pkg-fso if they want to know about the issues we have, about new developments etc. Greetings, Joachim -- Joachim "nomeata" Breitner Debian Developer [EMAIL PROTECTED] | ICQ# 74513189 | GPG-Keyid: 4743206C JID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | http://people.debian.org/~nomeata signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: [debian] openmoko-panel-plugin 0.4
I installed the new 0.4 and the notifications are quite cool. :) But i had the problem, that the gsm, usb and brightness icon wasn't shown anymore. After a bit investigation i found out that the new 0.4 deb package misses quite some icons. It misses the following icons: brightness.png usb_drive.png usb_host.png usb_net.png gsm_000.png gsm_020.png gsm_040.png gsm_060.png gsm_080.png gsm_100.png After i copied them from the original.tar.gz everything works good. :) Ciao, Rainer Sebastian Ohl wrote: > Hi gents, > > some words of what this is(as it produced some confusion last time: > The openmoko-panel-plugin is a gtk based plugin that draws the > powerstate of some FR hardware devices(i.e. gsm, gps) to a gtk based > panel. theses panels are used i.e. in xfce4. so you can enable or > disable the state of your gps receiver. > > See a screenshot here: http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel.png > > > i just uploaded a new release (0.4) to my server. it can be downloaded > from: > http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4-1_all.deb > http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4-1_amd64.changes > http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4-1.diff.gz > http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4-1.dsc > http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4.orig.tar.gz > > Changelog: > * fixed many debianizing errors. > * adding more dependencies > * fixed problems with different versions on my laptop :-( > * the menu entry should reappear > * click opens a context menu to toggle the powerstate > * removed some icons until they are finaly working > > the credit for the code changed goes to morlac. > > thank you for the big feature requests in the last mails. some of them > are already integrated into the code. but the code needs a big cleanup. > so please be patient. i think i will need a weekend to integrate all your > suggestions *g* > > Cu > Sebastian > > > ___ > Openmoko community mailing list > community@lists.openmoko.org > http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
[debian] openmoko-panel-plugin 0.4
Hi gents, some words of what this is(as it produced some confusion last time: The openmoko-panel-plugin is a gtk based plugin that draws the powerstate of some FR hardware devices(i.e. gsm, gps) to a gtk based panel. theses panels are used i.e. in xfce4. so you can enable or disable the state of your gps receiver. See a screenshot here: http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel.png i just uploaded a new release (0.4) to my server. it can be downloaded from: http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4-1_all.deb http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4-1_amd64.changes http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4-1.diff.gz http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4-1.dsc http://www.ohli.de/download/openmoko-panel-plugin_0.4.orig.tar.gz Changelog: * fixed many debianizing errors. * adding more dependencies * fixed problems with different versions on my laptop :-( * the menu entry should reappear * click opens a context menu to toggle the powerstate * removed some icons until they are finaly working the credit for the code changed goes to morlac. thank you for the big feature requests in the last mails. some of them are already integrated into the code. but the code needs a big cleanup. so please be patient. i think i will need a weekend to integrate all your suggestions *g* Cu Sebastian ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: new version of the openmoko-panel-plugin 0.3
I really love this plugin for use with debian. :) But i have a few suggestions for future releases. The GSM icon didn't change at all when disabled. Only when the gsm provider is activated the gsm-strengh bar changes. When disabling gsm in the older version the icon got a striked through circle like the other icons but this didn't happen anymore. In the first version when clicking the battery icon a popup show the current state. This popup was removed because it didn't show any more information than the hint when floating over the battery icon. Now i would love to get the popup again but with more battery information. In /sys/devices/platform/bq27000-battery.0/power_supply/bat/uevent all information could be found and i think the following would be nice to see (i added the unit in brackets): POWER_SUPPLY_STATUS=Not charging POWER_SUPPLY_VOLTAGE_NOW=4158000 (µV) POWER_SUPPLY_CURRENT_NOW=16500 (µA) POWER_SUPPLY_CHARGE_FULL=1215585 (µAh) POWER_SUPPLY_TEMP=291 (°C * 10) POWER_SUPPLY_TIME_TO_EMPTY_NOW=275280 (s) POWER_SUPPLY_TIME_TO_FULL_NOW=3932100 (s) POWER_SUPPLY_CAPACITY=99 (%) It would also be nice if we could change the charging current within this popup to force it to 100mA/500mA/1000mA. This could be done with /sys/devices/platform/s3c2440-i2c/i2c-adapter/i2c-0/0-0073/force_usb_limit_dangerous And i really love to see the new feature of changing the lcd brightness, which would save quite some battery power. :) Ciao, Rainer Christian Adams wrote: > the next version is already on it's way to sebastian to package > a little gui-update here and there, some notifications (if python- > pynotify and notification-mananger(-xfce) installed) and a thumb- > friendly way to change lcd-brightness > what i will add next would be a configfile where you can toggle which > hw-icons you like to get displayed and which not > > other suggestions what you (the users) want could be placed on this > list .. :) > > ciao, morlac - meanwhile co-developer of openmoko-panel-plugin > > p.s. the usb-chooser will get it's functionality when 'rmmod > g_file_storage' gets functional > > Am 21.09.2008 um 11:45 schrieb Fox Mulder: > >> I think he doesn't say more about the openmoko-panel-plugin because >> the >> older versions are floating around this mailing list for quite some >> time. :) > >> It is a small xfce plugin to show and change the status of wlan, gps, >> bluetooth, battery, gsm, usb and keyboard. >> It is like the indicator bar of OM2008.8 at the top. I'll try to say all I have sayed. This plugin is great, I use it with xfce4-panel and matchbox (not XFCE) in user mode. bugs: - the battery part seems to depend of a battery.py, which is not in the debian package, so I don't now where it came from. - The debian package do not have enough dependencies, at least python-gtk is needed. - the usb applet suppose that pushing the button always succeed, which is not the case. For example, in user mode, the plugin is not allowed to charge module or change the usb mode. - the panel plugin became unusable after a fso-frameworkd restart. usability problems: - some part of the plugin is not usable in user mode, for example the new usb applet. - the plugin is composed of too much icons. - toggling mode of wifi, gsm and gps is too easy and can be done by accident. Proposed features: - cobine the status icons into an unique icon (wifi, gps, bt, gsm on/off, maybe usb). When pushing this icon, a window appear that propose to change the different options (module on/off, usb mode, usb gadget). - use a real bar for batterie status instead of lots of icons. - use a bar for gsm instead of a "4 circle bar". - print GSM network in the GSM icon instead of the red bars (maybe not a good idea since the name can be long). - provide a matchbox-keyboard-toggle compatible with the applet, or give an option to use the AUX button to toggle the keyboard directly into the panel plugin. -- Guillaume Pinot http://www.irccyn.ec-nantes.fr/~pinot/ ``Computers are good at following instructions, but not at reading your mind.'' -- Donald E.
