The error channel is compressed in the gzip type sense and added into the FLAC file along with the lossy encode. The end user FLAC decoder does the lossy decompression and then adds on the error channel to give a lossless result in the end. Kids want it loud. Back on topic, my point is you are starting with a lossy format to begin with even if you use FLAC. [FSO ms4] Operator SMS Message problem
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello all, this problem arises from another thread that I started "[FSO ms4] GPRS problem on one network" where I'm having problems establishing a GPRS connection to one of the Irish Operators. This problem is not related but found it along the way. I thought at one point that I might be out of credit so was trying to check that I had money in the account to rule that out of the GPRS issue. To try and check my credit I tried to register my phone with the o2.ie web site. Registering the account is a simple process of putting your gsm phone number into a web page, O2 then send an SMS message to that number with a code which you then enter on the web page and that's pretty much it. You then just enter you details. I was typing in my O2 phone number but was not receiving any SMS message. I then pulled the O2 Sim out of the FR and popped it into the old Nokia, filled in the web page again with my phone number and almost instantly the Nokia received a SMS message from the operator. The source number of the SMS message is "00" Ten zeros if my typing is correct. My queston is "is this something that would be worth looking into?" I obviously can't re-register the SIM again but if it is worth looking into I could get another SIM and try again and this time have a look at logread. What can I say I wasn't thinking straight the first time. I never suspected that the phone could be at fault. Must read the jokes page again ;-) Let me know if it's of any interest to solve or if it's already a known issue. Don't remember this problem being reported but there's been so many ;-) I'd be happy to help in testing in so far as I can. -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFJMD/hXlbjSJ5n4BARAhjiAKCZIAMIPULRXdI3IqW5I4w118dZdQCgzGpy ik8rJ0QB/IGG5tVRQIMPKWc= =IMkx -END PGP SIGNATURE- ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Internet Key on Neo Freerunner?
In these days many telecom operators are offering USB internet dongles, which can connect to a computer by USB port and allow the computer to access the internet in any place through wireless communications (UMTS, GPRS, etc.). In Italy, all the telecom operators (Vodafone, Tim, 3, etc.) are offering these internet keys. Is it possible to connect this internet keys to the Neo Freerunner and so navigate on internet in any place? What driver/module do we need? Are they available? If it is possible, we can have the Neo always connected to internet, even where there is no WiFi, which is the most of places. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

A light for the Freerunner
Hello, because i like my light on my older phone, a Sony Ericsson W800i, i added a light on the miniusb - connector. Perhaps anybody like it or has any improvements for me :D Here you can find a wiki article about the light http://yourse.de/wiki/doku.php?id=openmoko:usb_light And here two videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK5w-OHSm9g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2H4QZq2xxE It was a proof-of-concept and it works! Perhaps Openmoko likes the idea and adds a light directly into the case in the next generation of devices :) At least manufacutring at one's own risk ;) Have fun! with kind regards Patrick Beck signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Only some 3G SIMs are problematic (bug #666), and that seems to have been fixed with the recent gsm firmware update. It now works for my O2 UK SIM anyway. > > What driver/module do we need? There's nothing particularly unusual about the drivers, but many of them start up as usb-storage to provide the Windows driver, then need to be switched over to usb-serial mode to do the comms. This seems to cover most models, but I don't know if it's been tried on ARM yet. http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/ ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

I explored this a couple months ago. My conclusion was that we didn't get enough precision and stability from the accelerometers for this purpose, without smoothing computations I didn't explore. My testing indicated, for example, that if the FR is laying on a 4-foot long shelf, you can raise or lower one end of that shelf by about an inch before being certain via /dev/input/event3 that you've in fact tilted the FR that direction. At about a half-inch it's clear that the values are changing, but the constant low-level fluctuations drown out your certainty, short of quite a bit more work (computationally, smoothing and comparing) than I was interested in putting into the project at the time. j ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

It's a short python program and a couple image files, at http://newkirk.us/om/testing/level.tar.gz - extract, 'python bubble.py' to run, tap screen to exit. (depends on python-pygame) After starting up it calibrates by averaging the first 17 samples it takes, calls that 'level' and proceeds to show deviation from that. Obviously this is useless in the actual use of a spirit level / bubble level, it's set that way for testing. j ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: A light for the Freerunner
I use "flashlight" - turns the screen backlight up to max. Touch to turn off (& return screen to previous setting). Its actually quite bright and useful, and no soldering involved.
