[CGUYS] Need Internet Radio Recommendations
Does anyone have experience with the new crop of internet radios? My old audiophile table radio (Yamaha YST-R7) is starting to act strange and I'm looking for a replacement that adds the latest functions. Ideally that means getting one that does internet radio and HD radio too. Some examples in the $125 to $150 range are ... http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-R227-Internet-Radio-Black/dp/B001O84M3I/ http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-930-000101-Squeezebox-Radio/dp/B002LARRDK http://www.amazon.com/Grace-Digital-Wireless-Internet-GDI-IR2000/dp/B001DL8OV2 Has anyone seen such with a proper set of speakers? The above have just one in the box. My current radio has a pair of tuned-port bass reflex cans that sound pretty good. I also have 3 auxiliary ports and all 3 are in use. I would hate to lose that. Another concern I have is that these radios seem to be tied to a web site. My current radio is 25 years old and I seriously doubt that I can depend on a website to still be around in 25 years. I worry that when that web site dies my access to internet radio would die too. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

If you must have capacious and lossless files, get an FX sensor camera that captures to a universal format, such as .tif. Heavy-up your storage, and clear your calendar. Ditto. This is how it has always been in the TV world. Dunno why. No such specification information exists that allows for consumers to make comparisons. User or user-oriented test reviews are all that is available, and even most such reviews never concern themselves with the tuner component. I can find more really useful information on the box that a $50 push lawnmower comes in than I can on a $1,600 TV. Go figure. Is it because this information is simply moot when it comes to actual use to the consumer because of all the variables? So many things can affect reception that are out of control of the tuner, perhaps it's pointless. Interesting. And, since you are an archivist, how do you store your raw images for future use, say, five, ten years out? Or do you simply discard those on which you have not performed post-production? Sorry, but I'm a big RAW fan. I can do things with RAW images that tiffs jpegs won't do. [CGUYS] Where to buy XP computer?
A senior friend went out to a local electronics store and bought a new Dell, 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium computer to replace his old XP which has a failing hard drive. Unfortunately, the only program that he has that will run on the new computer is his antivirus software and AOL. Even his 6 month old HP digital camera's software won't run on it. It will end up costing more to replace all the software than the computer cost. While replacing the hard drive and transferring over his programs and data is a $250 option, it will still leave him with a old computer with a slow chip. Is there a place he can buy an XP computer with a decent amount of memory (2GB) and dual core chip for a reasonable amount of $? Is there another solution for him? It looks like the only Microsoft computer's being advertised are the Windows 7, 64 bit version. Thanks in advance, Richard P. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

I'm going to be honest, WinXP is really getting long in the tooth, and it's also only getting security upgrades i.e. Microsoft isn't going to upgrade it or release SP4 for it. Bluntly, you normally don't need propietary software to do things like download pictures from your camera. Win7 likely can deal with uploading or downloading pictures from most digital cameras just using Windows Explorer and a judicious choice of directories to download pictures to. Have your friend just plug in the camera and see if Win7 detects the camera. If that doesn't work, ask HP for Win7 software, incidentally if software runs on Vista, it normally works on Windows 7, and WinXP drivers can normally be pressed into service in Win7 too. I'm trying to suggest that Windows XP is a step backwards and one that like Windows 98 or WinME won't be viable in a few years. One problem for your friend most likely is that 64 bit software often isn't available for things like the six month old camera. That's the fault of the folks who sold the camera though. 64 bit Vista was out and having issues with all kinds of products, so there wasn't much excuse in not producing something that worked on a 64 bit OS. Finally I normally don't use Windows at all anymore, but I did play with Windows 7 in 32 bit mode. I even bought the 3 pack upgrade because it was obviously a big improvement over XP or Vista. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *
