[CGUYS] DRM Dead? Was: [Re: [CGUYS] List Future [Was: CGUYS.ORG Footer Updated]]

2008-02-19 Thread Mike Drabick
On an exciting note Walmart's Music download page offers MP3 files for
an added $0.06 which rids us of that intrusive DRM. I found that my
Sansa would loose its DRM info if it was not hooked to the computer and
synced occasionally(once a month). All songs without DRM were
unaffected. I hope this is the end of DRM songs. The only question is,
will they let me pay $0.06 to remove the DRM from the songs I purchased
in the wma format? We can only hope.

Re: [CGUYS] Internet Web Cam

2008-01-18 Thread Mike Drabick

Rev Marshall,

This may be a blessing, remember that song Some of God's greatest gifts
are unanswered prayers. They would probably be a bother if they did
come, so here is my solution.

The $186 Panasonic BL-C111A MPEG-4 Network Camera is a wired unit that
can pan zoom via remote user input so if they don't like what they are
looking at the they can adjust it themselves.
http://www.buy.com/prod/panasonic-ip-cam-mpeg-4-pan-tilt-nic/q/loc/111/204222626.html

It has a sibling that is wireless for $100 more.
http://www.buy.com/prod/panasonic-bl-c131a-wireless-mpeg-4-network-camera/q/loc/101/204222627.html

The camera just needs an static IP address and Panasonic gives you a
website where the camera streams its data to and the user can control
the the camera from the website. It has day/night capability's. It
does 30 fps at 640x480.

MPEG-4 Network Camera

# Pan, tilt and digital zoom with presets
# Simultaneous MPEG-4 and JPEG
# 1 lux color night view mode
# Up to 30fps CMOS
# Full screen monitoring
# Built-in microphone

And when your done with the wedding use it for live sermons for those
who have a hard time getting out of the house on Sundays. ;-)

Good luck,

Mike

That is not my worry it is all the other stuff and making sure it
works and keeping it going. I will be a little busy during the
wedding so I will not be able to tend to the electronic end.

My feeling is the making of a DVD is much better, much less stress,
and it can be taken care of AFTER the ceremonies are way over.

My in-laws are the ones who want the live feed, because they are too
lazy to travel! (I know strike with 40 lashes but that is what it
comes down to.)

Many of our video projects are weddings, so I keep on top of this. The
biggest problem isn't getting the audio video mixed ($), it's the
internet connection. Few churches have a wireless network handy.

I hate to travel too (and it's no small expense for some people), and
I hate pomp and circumstance. Especially for people that get
divorced/married every few years (50%). The chances of me watching
your unedited live wedding feed wouldn't be real great. Just send them
a DVD when the editing is finished. MUCH more entertaining and they
can fast forward through it.

Just wondering what you thought about the cameras I recommended. It
sounds like you really do not want to spend any money on them and that
is OK.

My wife's sister lives in town and they almost never see them. My

occasionally. My wife is only child to live in the states so we just
don't get to see them. But we take the time to do so. My mother is
78 and travels all the time, her parents are a few years younger but
claim not wanting to travel.

My family is closer and we see them 1-2 times a year.

They could fly here. We are only 4 hours from Atlanta and we do have
service from Atlanta here. But it is a family preference not to
travel here, so we put up with it, (does not mean we like it. Have
used weather enticement but they like cold and snow, but then again so
do I)

We do have broadband in the church. Unless someone wants to pay the
confiscatory fees to step it up we will live with the 450 kbs up.
(The cable monopoly in this area is pretty bad. Plus only one phone
company so we have either or, not a great choice. Nothing is really
faster unless you pay through the nose.)

Can't you sell travel with weather? Isn't it still winter in northern
Ontario? ;-D It wasn't all that warm when we went to the Ontario
provincial ag. expo. in the summer a few years ago.

Go ahead. Test it. If anyone has fast broadband in the vicinity,
would it be legal to use a Meraki box to bounce/boost it for a day

I am curios to.

I have a couple old Dell Inspiron Laptops with the large 15.4 screens I
would love to turn into tivo boxes.

Hi Jay,
I've been thinking about doing that myself. What hardware (especially
graphics card) did you use? Did you get a (IR or other) remote control
working?
