Adobe is pushing hard to stay ahead of MS's Silverlight. The benefit to
us is that the new Acrobat 9 has lots of cool new abilities. These will
be invisible to you if you open PDFs with old or 3rd-party readers.

I currently use the SchubertIt plugin. For stand alone documents
sometimes I use Adobe Reader 7 while other times I use Preview.
Everything works fine, so I am going to follow the consensus and not
upgrade.

Thanks

I use the SchubertIt plugin for PDFs in browsers, and Preview for
everything else.

The only reason I've used Adobe Reader in the past year is to do my
state taxes. No reason to upgrade Reader unless tax forms don't work
in Preview.

There's also something called PrimoPDF that lets you create PDFs. I
haven't compared it to Foxit PDF but it works okay for the price (the
full adobe is usually better but that's comparing it to the free version
of this product so not a fair fight).

I have found that the SchubertIt plugin does not work for me under
10.5.4. with either Safari or Camino.

I would sometimes come across PDFs that would not properly display
in Preview and I had to resort to Adobe Reader in those instances.
