Re: [CGUYS] Windows Dominates Netbook OS Market

MS is planting stories that Windows has driven Linux out of the netbook
market. According to these stories the return rate on Linux-based
netbooks has been so huge that retailers have stopped carrying Linux in
favor of the far superior offering from Microsoft. MS now claims a 90%
market share and should hit 125% by the Fall.

Planting? I assume you have some evidence that the information is
inaccurate. Please share.

That 125% bit, that's not a sarcastic cheap shot, is it?

I just got the picture of Gates and Balmer buying hundreds of Linux
machines and returning them. This is the sort of the reverse of how L Ron
Hubbard's NYTimes best seller list numbers got run up by the true believers
buying the books and returning them to the warehouse where they would go
back to the stores with the original sales stickers on them. They got
caught out when Daltons got some Walden Book stickers on their books.

The first 2 words of the article: Microsoft says... Funny, you'd
expect a planted article to try and hide that fact a bit more than
it did. Gosh, do you think it might be an independent article based
soley on a MS blog?

In the bad old days, we used to call this diabolical device a press release.

The report in Dailytech refers to a planted Microsoft story and
acknowledges that with the phrase Microsoft says Unfortunately,
anything Microsoft says is news. The reporter knows it is bullshit, but
nevertheless feels the need to report it. But why are you harping on
that? Once again you harp on some peripheral issue because you don't what
to address the technology.

Are netbooks with Linux so crappy that people immediately recoil in
horror and return them in droves? Or is that just MSFUD?

So, MS is not allowed to talk to the press, or what? They can only answer
questions and never offer information? Is this new dictum also going to
apply to Apple and every other company in the US, or is it just Microsoft?

The shop owner explained exactly why they get returned. You didn't see it?

Unfortunately, anything Microsoft says is news. The
reporter knows it is bullshit, ...

Unless it isn't. You are accusing MS of lying about the percentage of
netbooks shipped with Windows and the shop owner of lying about the
percentage of Linux boxes returned. I ask a third time, do you have any
contradictory information, or is it just TPFUD?

Yes, lets stay away from any technical discussions. We don't want to talk
about computers here. Lets just focus on the atmospherics.

Except that you haven't actually talked about anything.

It's just been a bizarre collection of rantings and non-sequitors.
