Dinovo Edge Hmm $130 ... I see it has a track circle or something.
Does that work well? Do you know if it will work from the couch 20
ft away or so?

The track circle has worked fine for me and it says it's good for up
to 30' I think. I haven't been that far away from my desk tho.
There are Windows and Mac versions so be sure you get the right one.

I'm looking for an all in one wireless keyboard with mouse or pointer
device that can be used for sitting back and working from your lap.
Can anyone recommend such?

No, but a comment in general. We got a wireless mouse/keyboard combo
once a couple years back. Turns out it's not nearly as useful as it
seems at first. After the tenth time in an hour you rock forward to
read something on the screen, you end up just staying there. The
keyboard rarely leaves the desk after the first few days.

Similarly, game playing is impossible without the keyboard being
stable in one spot.

Tony is correct.

Connection tends to wander off and on at times too. Not so good for
games.

I also understand that the bluetooth connection, because it is
pulsed as opposed to continuous, presents problems as well.

Re: [CGUYS] Wireless keyboard w. built-in mouse/ pointer for mac??

2009-08-02 Thread db
Yes, but those are all PC keyboards mostly with separate mice except for
the expensive ( $185 )one made by Apple and it has no integral pointer /
mousepad.

The reason I am looking for such is to turn a white Tiger macbook with a
broken unreadable screen into a multimedia center machine (mostly for
downloading and playing movies) by placing it in the cabinet and hooking
the video to a the large screen LDC digital TV and adding an external
drive to it.

It's working great except that it requires getting up from the couch and
kneeling before the TV cabinet for every adjustment etc. and THAT is a
REAL nuisance and kind of defeats everything.

(So would having a keyboard with a separate mouse as there is no where
to place the mouse but one's lap.)

Will PC keyboards work with a mac and if so does anyone know of one ...
PC or Mac ... that has a built in pointer?

I see some here:
http://www.google.com/products?q=wireless+mac+keyboard+with+built+in+touchpadaq=f
http://www.google.com/products?q=wireless+mac+keyboard+with+built+in+touchpadaq=f

Has anyone tried this ... or are there other kind of remote controls
available for a macbook?

Someone mentioned a free app for the iPhone?

It seems like the Mac Bluetooth keyboard and a rollerball mouse might
work for you.
But you'll have to check if they would have enough range for you. The
rollerball range might be a problem.

To continue:
I use the Logitech cordless optical trackman on the iMac that I use for
EyeTV in the living room. I just checked it and with used batteries it
was still working from 8 feet away.

I could use one of the bluetooth keyboards, but I haven't sprung for that.

Speaking of Logitech, since Tom sent the keyboard URL I have been doing
some more googling around and found some expensive wireless keyboards
with trackpads (in the $125 range) and one ... the Logitech MediaBoard
Pro Bluetooth Keyboard for $69 !! that is meant for use (30' range)
with the Play Station 3.

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/playstation_3/all/devices/3616cl=us,en#reviews

At Smalldog it mentions that this keyboard is programmable for the Mac
but Logitech says nothing about that or usuge with computers ... just
mentions playstation 3.
http://www.smalldog.com/product/71670/atfgc

I can't find a down loadable manual at Logitech or elsewhere... :(

I'm not a gamer... does anyone know if a keyboard for Play Station 3
could work with a computer ... specifically a white Tiger MacBook?

I think it depends what you want to do with it in your lap. I just
use Command-+ to enlarge the font if I have trouble reading it. ANd
since I'm not a gamer, that's not an issue. Besides, if you need to
use it for gaming, just sit it on the desk. My DiNovo Edge has been
very reliable and I don't loose the signal. It is Bluetooth,
however,so you do need that on your machine.
