REMINDER! May 11, 2018 Deadline! CALL FOR PAPERS AND POSTERS
Lessons Learned -Textile Conservation - Then and Now
12th North American Textile Conservation Conference
Ottawa-Gatineau, Canada
September 23 - 29, 2019
The twelfth biennial North American Textile Conservation Conference
(NATCC) will be held in Ottawa, Canada, and will focus on the theme of "Lessons
Learned - Textile Conservation - Then and Now." The choice of the topic was
inspired by NATCC's return to the City of Ottawa, venue of our first conference
in 1997. Analytical studies, conservation protocols, treatments, exhibition
displays, and materials and techniques have evolved during the past 20+ years,
often dramatically. We propose to revisit conservation procedures, best
practices, collaborations, and other preservation guidelines carried out during
the 1980s through the present.
Presentations may include, but are not limited to, evolving
conservation protocols and best practices, including those for treatment,
storage, travel and display; methodologies for technical analyses, scientific
and historical research, collaborations among different stakeholders, and other
topics as they relate to the field of textile conservation of tangible and
intangible culture. Both successful and unsuccessful "lessons learned" are
welcome. Specific cases where past treatments, methodologies, and/or
collaborations are contrasted and reassessed according to contemporary needs
and approaches, are especially welcome. The following are examples of possible
subjects:

Conservators, curators, conservation scientists, art historians,
archaeologists, anthropologists, collection managers, designers, preparators
and others engaged with these topics are invited to submit proposals for
presentations. Collaborations among professions are encouraged. Projects
already presented or published will not be considered and proposed projects
must be complete by the end of 2018.
Abstracts for papers and posters may be submitted in English, French,
or Spanish as a Word document (no PDFs). Abstracts must have a title, be a
maximum of 300 words, and accompanied by a short author(s) biography (100 words

[Consdistlist] NATCC - Call for new Board Members

2017-10-16 Thread Giuntini, Christine
Dear Colleagues,

NATCC (North American Textile Conservation Conference) is a not-for-profit
(501(c)3 organization that was formed to improve the quality of textile
conservation by sponsoring biennial conferences and publishing the papers from
those conferences. After our eleventh biennial meeting in Mexico City, we will
have 2 open positions and are inviting applications from our North American
colleagues to join the 12-member board of NATCC.

As specified in the NATCC Bylaws, new Directors are elected by a majority of
the Board to serve a 4-year term. Board members, who must be practicing textile
conservators, curators, or scientists, are responsible for the organization of
the biennial conferences. The NATCC Board meets twice per year, once during the
AIC Annual Meeting and once at another time and place agreed upon by the Board.
During a biennial conference year, the second meeting generally occurs on the
day after the conference. The language of business for the Board is English.
NATCC does not reimburse Board members for travel expenses associated with
attending Board meetings.

We are especially interested in bringing our meetings to a wider geographic
area, which requires regional board members to serve as the nucleus for the
local committee. With that in mind, we would like to hear from our colleagues
in Canada, the southwest, mid-west, and west coast of the United States, and
Mexico. Among the qualifications that the NATCC Board is seeking are - a proven
ability to work collaboratively, fluency in Spanish and/or French,
South/Central American affiliations, institutional support, and/or previous
Board experience.

Those interested in serving on this congenial Board should write a letter
describing their experience, qualification and statement of interest to: Esther
Méthé, NATCC Secretary, estherme...@gmail.com. Letters are due by November
10th, 2017, The Board will announce its decision by December 5th, 2017.

We invite you to contact any current Board member for more information: Emilia
Cortes, emilia.cor...@metmuseum.org; Joy
Gardiner, jgardi...@winterthur.org; Caterina
Florio,
caterina.flo...@museedelhistoire.ca;
 Liliana Garcia-Alonso,

Please share this message with textile conservation colleagues who may not
subscribe to this list.

Thank you, NATCC Board of Directors

[Consdistlist] Registration update: 2017 North American Textile Conservation Conference, Mexico City Nov 6-11

2017-09-28 Thread Giuntini, Christine
Dear Colleagues,

We are relieved to share with you that NATCC board members Lorena Roman, Lilian
García-Alonso and Hector Meneses report that the recent earthquakes, as serious
as they are for the affected populations, did not impact the neighborhoods
containing our conference venues and hotel. These two earthquakes in Mexico ,
which occurred a few weeks ago, are unrelated and correspond to different
tectonic plates. Reconstruction efforts in the damaged areas are already in
place.

In light of these recent events, we announce that our regular registration
fee of $375.00 will remain in force until November 1st. Please go to:
http://www.natcconference.com/registration-df-2017.html. If the hyperlink
isn't working please paste the URL into your browser.

We also want to remind you that the local committee has organized a visually
rich and intellectually stimulating group of cultural trips, including a day
trip to the nearby first millennium archeological site of Xochicalco and a
post-conference multi-day trip Nuu Savi: Textiles of the Old Kingdoms, in
Oaxaca. To learn more and register for a cultural trip, either before or after
the conference, please go to:
http://www.natcconference.com/cultural-trips.html. If the hyperlink isn't
working please paste the URL into your browser.

We have organized a very special conference, and hope to see many of you in
Mexico City the week of November 6-10.
