I have this problem, but hadn't worried about as things still opened.  I've 
tried the workaround and it doesn't.  Workaround, that is.  :^)

I report the same problem, opening any _folder_ on the Desktop. The only folder
on the desktop I can open without the error message is the Home directory. I
tried to install all 'missing' KDE packages, but nothing changed.
