Re: [CnD] air fryer

Some kitchen counters are more heat resistant than others. Engineered
stone, brand name Corian, is not. That's why we didn't buy it when we
remodeled our kitchen. Not sure about the older surfaces. But a lot also
depends on the feet at the bottom of the air fryer. How tall are they, at
least 1/4 inch?

bookshare & found about another 8 or 9 air fryer books there which I
downloaded.

I wish I had waited for this air fryer. My husband bought a Cosori. It is
supposed to be WIFI. I know of a blind guy on Applevis who has managed to
connect his. You have to use a third party program called Vesync. Neither
they nore Cosori have nay human tech support. I have downloaded the Vesync.
I have connected Alexa to Vesync and have Vesync on my phone. But I can't
connect the air fryer to it. The controls are touch sensitive, the kind
that cannot be labeled or memorized. You set them off when you touch them,
sort of like touching things on an iPhone without VoiceOver on.

So I can get things ready for air frying, I can take them out when they are
completely done, but I can't do the air frying itself independently. I am
not sure what I am doing wrong with this program, but the connection is just
not occurring.

Bottom line: get the one from Blind Mice!

Hello Fry Babies, and Adults
I just received my Air Fryer from Blind Mice Megamall and I think I will
enjoy it very much. The knobs are very easy to use, and I look forward to
using it very soon.
I do have one question. It appears that the basket with the holes
in the bottom can not be removed from the drawer, or the outer basket. I
have felt two Phillips head screws inside the inner basket, but I have not
unscrewed them yet, as I want to make sure that doing so will not hurt the
machine in any way.
I do know that they need to be separated, as there is some plastic
packing material between both baskets, and, needless to say, the fryer would
be inoperable without removing the packing material.
Thanks for any assistance.

I am sorry that I am bringing up this topic because I am sure everybody else
is sick of it.

But I am considering buying an air fryer and would like a recommendation. I
can use a good accessible app, but my husband is low vision and does not
want to have to use an app. It is important to him to be able to cook
pieces of chicken, not just thin pieces like wings. We want to be able to
put enough food in it for both of us and not have to do a whole bunch of
batches for dinner. Is this a tall order?

Thanks for any recommendations.

2020-07-07 Thread Johna Gravitt via Cookinginthedark
I purchased an Emeril Lagasse air fryer pro 360+ which is all buttons and I
have not received it yet but I do know I can label it with bump dots and be
able to use it as long as I have a cheat sheet of the buttons. Do not get the
as seen on tv model though, make sure it's the plus. The other one has dials
and buttons but the dials are not accessible at all because they rely on a
digital read out on the unit and it changes which each dial rotation and
there's no stop or start point on the dial so you never know where you are.

I have not looked at air fryers lately. My experience in the past has been:
If it has knobs that turn they probably will not be accessible but could be.
If they have buttons that look like little bubbles they will probably be
completely accessible as long as you write down what each button does and keep
the cheat sheet handy.
Most of the multi-purpose air fryers do not have accessible dials but some can
be programmed to work with Amazon or Google assistants.
I have a Nuwave oven that is one of the oldest air fryers around, but works
well enough to meet my needs. I don't even know if that is available anymore.
Further than that I don't have enough knowledge to answer your question.
Maybe my general guidelines will be of some help though.

Good morning,
I bought a one or two person one quart sized one from hsn, but it has not
arrived yet.
Should come tomorrow.
It has two dials.
One for temperature and one for time and that's it.
Will report on it once it arrives and I check it out.
It was roughly 42 dollars with tax and shipping.
I have seen it on there a few times and never went for it, but did this time
due to the difficulty finding one accessible.
Have a great day.

I'm using the emerald 360 air fryer and it's not completely accessible. It
does have buttons and dials but I need to use Aira to help me set it each time
I want to use it because of the menus that display on the screen. The dials
have no stop and start point, they continuously rotate so there's no point in
marking them with bump dots because it's not always guaranteed that the menu
selection will be the same on the screen each time you reach the point where
your dot is places.

I don't think there are any truly accessible air fryer ovens. I don't have the
emerald model, but I have the standard Power Air Fryer oven, the largest 8 QT
model, and have no problems operating it. In fact, it gets used at least once,
often two or three times a day. But, like with almost all microwave ovens, you
just have to have sighted help to mark positions on the touch screen but then
really hope the thing is doing what its supposed to be doing.

It'd be great if there were an app operated model or even a talking air fryer
oven, but I don't see this happening.

The Emerald one is not accessible. Unfortunately! I wanted the oven type, but
it had dials and buttons and you could not be certain which program was turned
on. Of course, the buttons were a guessing game as well in terms of getting the
exact temperature you wanted. Part of it could be memorized, but not enough to
be certain without eyes available.

Hello everyone I know that there has been some discussion on the list regarding
air fryers. I’m wondering if anyone knows whether or not the air fryer that is
sold by Emerald is accessible for those of us who are blind? I’m in the market
for an air fryer and I’m trying to find one that I will be able to use
independently.
Thank you

The model I saw couldn't be marked in any way that would help. The dials don't
come up with the same information each time. They change by what you are doing.
I didn't check to see if it could be run with a smart phone ap. By the time I
found the ap, set it up, got it going, my food would be burnt offerings if it
were running or spoiled in its raw state while I searched to find the proper
response. I really wanted that Emerald oven and worked a couple hours with a
sighted friend before giving up on it and returning it. With limited sight it
might be possible to use that oven, but not for a totally blind person.

Re: [CnD] Air fryer

2020-01-17 Thread Ann via Cookinginthedark
If it's anything like my power air fryer model, the person will have to
actually hit the power button to turn it on before things are visible on
the screen to be marked.

And,, just a heads up ... my air fryer's touch screen is the most
sensitive thing I've ever seen! It can feel a bit nerve racking before
you get used to using it, just take the time to hit the right setting
you want, and things will be fine.

Re: [CnD] Air fryer

2020-01-17 Thread Ann via Cookinginthedark
I don't think there are any truly accessible air fryer ovens. I don't
have the emerald model, but I have the standard Power Air Fryer oven,
the largest 8 QT model, and have no problems operating it. In fact, it
gets used at least once, often two or three times a day. But, like with
almost all microwave  ovens, you just have to have sighted help to mark
positions on the touch screen but then really hope the thing is doing
what its supposed to be doing.

It'd be great if there were an app operated model or even a talking air
fryer oven, but I don't see this happening.

Hi Lovette.

I have the Tefal actifry myself have had it for some years now. I like
the fact it has a stirring paddle so food doesn't have to be rearranged.
You might also want to see if you can get a snacking basket for your
model as this will make the fryer even more versatile.

Cheers

Andrew

Hopefully some recipes will come with the frier, and your question about

In addition isn't there a website where one could go for all kinds of printed

such a site some years back.
