New release

2019-02-19 Thread Jakub Kadlcik
Hello,

we have updated the Copr stack to the newest versions of our packages.
This was a first major release after months, so you can expect many
enhancements.

The common theme for this release was to speed-up the frontend
interface, optimize internals and improve the user experience with
small UI changes.

The full list of release notes might come later.

New release & deploy

2018-08-06 Thread Michal Novotny
Hello,

we have just released & deployed the latest Copr stack. This one brings
some long-expected features. Mainly:

- APIv3
- Pagure Integration

Both features will be presented on Flock and we will also write some
tutorials/blog posts about them.

As for APIv3, you can download python-copr from
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2018-d5ac820aac and already
start experimenting with `from copr.v3 import Client`. It's pretty neat.

And for the integration with Pagure, please, take a look at tab
'Integration' (was called webhooks before) in a copr settings.

You can explore the features on your own in advance but we will provide the
necessary information very soon.

Enjoy!

New Release

2018-05-18 Thread Michal Novotny
Hello,

we have deployed a new Copr stack. Hurray!

The main highlights are that copr-dist-git as the last missing piece has
been rewritten into python3 meaning that the whole stack now runs on
python3. Then some new openSUSE chroots were introduced. Thanks to Neal
Gompa, you can now build for:

openSUSE Tumbleweed i586, ppc64le, x86_64*
openSUSE Leap 15.0 x86_64

Then we added support for --with and --without rpmbuild options per chroot
setting. With those option, you tweak building of your packages if you need
to.

Then there were some fixes for forking and (redundant) auto-rebuilding.

See the updates below for full info and enjoy!

This would be possible too, if such builds have been imported into
temporary ("soon" to be garbage collected) namespace on dist-git.

In my use-cases, much more convenient would be to have the setting
per-package (instead of per-build) basis.

Some (nice for me) features which were in the previous release have been
reverted :

- the original SRPM dist tag is present again in the package version ;
- there is no more spec file in the result repository.

What about it ?

Just additional note, this is nothing new (the dist-git was never updated if
dist-git failed to obtain the external sources). The only thing which changed
now is that dist-git itself is not responsible for "srpm preparation", but it is
delegated to safer (and more parallelizable) place -> to builders.

JFTR: People obviously do care about dist-git content. Since there is
temptation to stop importing the srpm into distgit (in future, since dist-git
import is way too space expensive). Thus, we should really make sure that it
won't hurt the users, at least those who care about dist-git (so IMHO we should
really keep the dist-git feature as-is, at least as an optional feature).

Right now, srpm is imported into DistGit before the actual rpm build. So it
should be updated if the rpm build fails. But it will not be updated if the
initial
srpm generation fails (that is the first step in the build process now
unless
SRPM upload or SRPM url sources are used, then it is being skipped).

New release

2017-06-09 Thread Michal Novotny
Hello,

we have just released latest state of COPR server stack.

Main changes include:

- usage of standalone builder on a builder machine, yet to be officially
packaged
- custom dist-git branching (for different distros)
- dist-git import into separate branches is now only a single import task
(imports should be much faster than before)
- we have now f26 beta builders

Please, report us bugs.

New Release

2017-04-21 Thread Michal Novotny
Hey folks,

yesterday, we have released the latest state of our COPR stack. It contains
a _lot_ of new features and even though it's not perfect, it's still pretty
damn good.

The main feature addition was perhaps support for building modules directly
from a modulemd file or from a SCM url by using our copr-cli command line
tool. You just pass a single parameter to get a module that can be
immediately installed into your system (if stars align, of course). You can
read more about this feature in this blog post of one of our main devs:
http://frostyx.cz/posts/copr-loves-modularity

Now, there is more. By using proper bash hacking, we unlocked another
pretty cool feature. COPR builds can now be reattached to backend after it
has been restarted. That means, our deployment process will no longer
interrupt your running build and no time is wasted. This feature can be
seen as one of the steps to provide an actual "quality of service".

And yeah, we _also_ added live logs. This feature has been demanded for
very long time and so it has finally landed. Needed to be said, it's a
mockchain output, so even though it's live there is not very much
information in it :).

We are quite excited about all of this and hope you will be too

But that's different from the (primitive) deferring mechanism where backend
takes any job that frontend feeds it with and returns it back (effectively
saying
"try to give me this job later") if it finds out the job cannot be handled
at the moment.

If you would like to use what you have described to implement "deferring",
then I doubt you can fit it on that very well.

I am satisfied with the current state and will implement more only if/when
I find it
insufficient (meaning "performing very badly") later but feel free to send
us patches
for this sooner if desired.

By "drop" here I mean that the build simply fails on BE, while it is still
in "running" state in FE databse. That build is put in queue once again
after MAX_BUILD_TIMEOUT.

That already worked -- I don't see benefits in removing that feature (we wasted
a lot of time on it). Just a reason to put "sad face" here.

Thanks for the link, but - ouch :( that sounds like a non-trivial step back.
At least for those who don't have super powerful Open Stack cloud which would
give them instances within 10s.

Hms, thanks for the info. That commit 1c51da66151df0e1add7ca877568d16584793bef
removed a lot of code in scheduler, which was a debugged with care and took
(really) non-trival efforts to get it working right ...

What exactly changed, is there link for patch review to simplify reading, to
follow reasoning behind?

Does that mean that we no longer preallocate workers (looks like 'max_workers'
backend parameter disappeared)? Where is the queue mainained now (python retask
is missing)?

Sorry I haven't posted earlier, I'm writing while I'm facing one bugreport.

Note that new python-copr library breaks the compatibility with older servers.
While trying to submit new build (or request for new copr) from command line,
frontend replies with (and copr-cli fails with):

Unknown arguments passed (non-existing chroot probably)"

That's because the new client library sends useless content in POST to
frontend. The older frontend was guarded against this. Possibly we should
be more careful to not break client/server protocol like that in future :).

Ugly "hot-fix" is attached.

Re: New release of Copr

2016-06-17 Thread Michal Novotny
I am not a fan of letting "the old one" die. The whole package building and
manipulation interface as well as lately added commands like buildpypi,
buildgem, buildtito, buildmock, watch-build were implemented in the
clientv1 and with API1. The reason is that the code for API1 and in the
original python copr client is much better structured and development there
is significantly easier.

Hi Igor,
the copr-cli still uses the legacy client, so it was added there. We should
really migrate it to client_v2 and let the old one die.

I don't know what are Mirek's plans for next sprints, but maybe I could work on
it.

New release of Copr

2016-06-16 Thread Miroslav Suchy

Hi,
I just upgraded Copr instance to new version.

There is one big change. You can now lower priority of your build.
It was introduced to easy rebuild of rubygems and pypi. But it can be
used by CI systems later.

Copr-cli from our git, has --background option already. It lowers the
priority. But due compatibility reason we will not push the package into
main Fedora and we will wait one or two weeks.

If you want to give it try, then you can install it from our copr project.

For this new feature, you will need the latest update of copr-cli (1.51)
and python-copr (1.70).

Currently, they are to be found here:
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-14c6d04e21 for F23 and
also in the official COPR repository here:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/copr/copr/

python-copr 1.70 also fixes building from command line by using copr-cli
for the current production instance (see *Bug 1340650*
 - SRPM builds
submitted from CLI fail: "invalid request").

New release

2016-05-05 Thread Miroslav Suchý
Hi,
today I released new version of Copr.

There is
* lot of bugfixes. Mainly related to group projects.
* fix related to generation of GPG keys (see email on fedora devel mailing
list).

New release of Copr

2015-11-18 Thread Miroslav Suchý
I just deployed in production new version of Copr.

It is mostly bugfix release.
It contains one new feature, but it has some performance issues so I'm not
going to announce it yet. If you discover it,
then feel free to test it, but do not use it too much :)
