Do you use Telnet to access your servers? Or is it SSH? IRC is not encrypted. It does not support message formatting. It doesn't even specify the text-encoding in the protocol. It may exist for 30 years, but there is *a lot* to improve. I think one should be open for new stuff without following every new upcoming trend. And the choosing of a new system is a evolutionary process, people try it and if they like it they stay. Hey, why don't you try Matrix for a few days or weeks? Install a client of your choice, join the Linux or another channel and look how it works. You can even follow discussions on your smartphone while standing in the subway for example. I don't like browser-based applications. On 10/28/2018 06:27 PM, Philipp Stanner wrote: > Well, which client would you especially recommend? I have used HexChat before, and it was nice to work with. This has the advantage of restricting less legitimate users (especially webchat, which is rather popular among those who only connect for support), but requires messaging an OP should someone need to be manually voiced. You can register your Matrix nickname on Freenode. There is apparently such an option. So, it still should work. Not sure if that is still working but https://matrix.org/blog/2015/06/22/the-matrix-org-irc-bridge-now-bridges-all-of-freenode/ should help connect to IRC via matrix. [coreboot] Matrix instead (or additionally to) IRC
Hey, have you guys already heard of Matrix? https://matrix.org/blog/home/ It's some sort of modern IRC, using JSON to format messages. It's more modern than IRC. Features are: * Source code formatting and highlighting in messages * multiple devices * history + history synchronization between multiple devices * possible E2C encryption and many more. In theory it will be a decentralized protocol, but there aren't that many servers yet and actually only one working server-software Many projects, especially tech-based ones like the Rust programming language already use the service. Personally I think it's an enormous progress to IRC. I would give it a chance if I were you :) P. -- coreboot mailing list: coreboot@coreboot.org https://mail.coreboot.org/mailman/listinfo/coreboot
