RE: [courier-users] 127.0.0.1 DNS-records

2005-01-24 Thread Sander Holthaus - Orange XL
When going through my maillogs, I noticed various 546
 Routing loops.
Upon a closer look, it appears that several bulk-mail domains have
DNS-(A/MX)-records that point to 127.0.0.1, which can cause the
  beforemetioned routing loop.

Is this a fault from my part (error in my courier
 configuration)? If
not, is there any way I can refuse mail from domains that
 resolve to
127.0.0.1 without breaking anything? Doesn't pointing to reserved,
private, etc. IPs in (public) DNS-records violate an RFC?

I'm not aware of anything that technically prohibits such an
 MX record.

But they can be easily stopped. You must enable
BOFHCHECKDNS, and put badmx 127.0.0.1 in the bofh file.
The man pages give more information.

Thanks! Can I use whildcard in that expression, e.g. badmx 127.0.0.* And
what about those domains that have mx's point to 0.0.0.0? Are they legal
too???

Kind Regards,
Sander Holthaus

Re: [courier-users] makeuserdb error

2005-01-24 Thread Luca Zancan
All is OK, now.
I think it was a problem with my configure launch.
At the first installation I had used ./configure --with-mailuser=vmail
--with-mailgroup=vmail.
Now I've reinstalled (make clean and make distclean) the entire
package (logging as user vmail):
this time I've used:
./configure --with-authuserdb --with-db=db --with-mailuser=vmail
--with-mailgroup=vmail,
and everything is working well (no more makeuserdb errors).

Thank you for your support, anyway.

Thank you Sam for your kind reply, but I can't understand what do you
mean with broken links...

The userdb folder was manually created by me and there are no links in
it...

Should the courier-authlib installation create some links in the
userdb directory? Should I suspect some mistake during the
installation of the authlib package?

Thank you again.

No, but a broken soft link would be one explanation for the error message.

Obviously something didn't work right.

What is DEFAULTDELIVERY= in /etc/courier/courierd set to? It should be

[courier-users] need help setting up a virtual domain

2005-01-24 Thread patrick peck
hello,
i can't get my virtual domain working with courier.
let's say 'domain.com' is in the 'me' file, and 'hosteddomain.com'
is the virtual domain i would like to set up, with all the mail going
to the user '[EMAIL PROTECTED]', such that '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
can be handled by whatever .courier-webmaster in joe's home directory
specifies.
that's what i did:
- added [EMAIL PROTECTED] to the userdb
(the values of uid, gid and home the same as for the user joe)
- added
  @hosteddomain.com: joe
  to the list of aliases
- ran all the 'make' scripts:
makeacceptmailfor
makealiases
makeuserdb
makesmtpaccess
when sending mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] i get a
'550 User unknown' response. sending mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and all the other system users works fine, however.
interestingly, when changing the user's name from
'[EMAIL PROTECTED]' to 'webmaster', mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is delivered to the user joe, but
the .courier-webmaster file in joe's home is ignored.
i run courier-0.47-3 on debian sarge (kernel 2.4).
any help would be highly appreciated!
regards
patrick

[courier-users] Error delivering to root/postmaster

2005-01-24 Thread Spam

  Hello,

I seem to have a problem with mail that should be delivered to
  postmaster.

courieresmtp: id=00087D65.41F4FF62.1755,from=[EMAIL
PROTECTED],addr=[EMAIL PROTECTED]: configuration error: mail loops back to
myself (MX problem).

I can, however send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with no
problems. This only seem to happen from local mails from cron, etc.

  My /etc/courier/aliases/system lists: postmaster:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

From what I can tell, cron and others seem to want to send mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] My aliases file has root:postmaster listed.

I also has this in hosteddomains:

tnonline.net
mail.tnonline.net tnonline.net

Not sure what I can do to fix this. Users and daemons should be able
to send mail to root and similar.

  ~S

Well what MTA are you using? Are you sure it's configured to use
maildrop? When addressing an issue with just maildrop not the full
Courier-MTA, you really should be posting to maildropl.

The MTA is Postfix, and it delivers OK to the maildirs via
maildrop...Maildrop just doesn't read the mailfilter file :S

Sorry for posting in the wrong list, hadn't seen the Maildrop list :S

RE: [courier-users] Courier::Filter 0.16

2005-01-24 Thread Julian Mehnle
Mark Bucciarelli wrote:
[taking off list, as I think I have borked my setup.]

No, unfortunately this is a general issue with IO::InnerFile. See below.

 Julian Mehnle wrote:
Try 0.11 as soon as it appears

That got me futher, but I'm still having some trouble.

Jan 24 08:27:48 dev courierfilter: Starting pureperlfilter
 Jan 24 08:28:08 dev courieresmtpd: started,ip=[::: ...]
 Jan 24 08:28:09 dev courierfilter: Courier::Filter::Module::ClamAVd:

   /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.4/MIME/Parser.pm line 790, GEN3 line 38.

PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED] through::: ... (host-...)
Jan 24 08:28:09 dev courierfilter: Reason: Mail filters temporarily
 unavailable.

Running install Courier::Filter completes cleanly in CPAN.

The problem is that IO::InnerFile, which is used by MIME::Parser, does not
return true on success. Old versions of MIME::Parser (up to 5.413) did
not care about that.

(
  Detailed explanation:

The MIME-tools and IO-stringy packages were initially written and
maintained by the same author who now has not been maintaining his CPAN
packages for over three years. MIME-tools has since been taken over by
a new maintainer, and starting with version 5.414, MIME::Parser checks
the result of the seek() call and thus always fails when working with
  IO::InnerFile.

I filed a bug report on IO::InnerFile[1] a while ago, but nothing has
happened so far. I am trying to resolve the issue with MIME-tools' new
  maintainer and IO-stringy's current maintainer.
)

Now what all this essentially means is that either a version of
MIME-tools/MIME::Parser = 5.413 must be installed on the system, or the
installed version of IO::InnerFile must be patched manually until a fixed
version is officially available. You can get the patch here[2].

The clients are probably downloading the index of messages in the mailbox,

bit of bandwidth, but under no reasonable interpretation should that be

This is expanded in the Makefile to:

Maybe it is related to the inclusion of Win32CORE, however it is

Is there s.th. wrong in my Cygwin perl build, where should I look at
