[Coworking] Mom's Groups

2009-01-08 Thread ourspacefortwa...@gmail.com

Are there any spaces that offer a Mom's Group for WAHMs? I am aware
that Cubes and Crayons offers such groups, however does anyother
spaces offer such groups. I woul appreciate feed back from space
managers, in regards to the hours the group is hosted and the cost
that each mom pays per day/week/month or year.

Fort Wayne is a very family friendly city and I would like to
incorporate that aspect into coworking. The potential site location
is downtown, which is within close proximity to 4 private schools and
2 charter schools that seem to have a higher percentage of mothers
whom drop their children off in the morning, complete their daily
affairs and then return to the schools in the afternoon. Thus, I
would like to offer a group that would meet between 10 a.m. and 2
p.m., one day per week, where work could be completed, fellowship
could be enjoyed and lunch would be served. It is my thought that a
typical session would cost each mother between $10.00 - $20.00. The
price would include lunch which would be delivered by a close by
eatery. To ensure that service costs are kept at a minimum the foods
ordered would not be too extravagant, i.e. pizza, lasagna (or other
pasta dishes), sub, chinese, etc. I imagine $5.00 - $10.00 food costs
per person.

[Coworking] Re: Mom's Groups

2009-01-08 Thread felicity at cubes

Hi Jodi,

Our experience is that the moms prefer to just brown bag it for the
most
part. We don't charge a fee beyond our normal use fee for mom groups
we
set up. For example, we have moms of 6 - 12 month olds meet every
other
Wednesday from 10am - 1pm. Lunch/social is 12 - 1 and some people
come just for that and others come and work together and then break
for
lunch and social. We started with paid lunches and that seemed to
keep
people away. Of course, every market is different.

Good luck and keep us posted in how they work.

[Coworking] A collaboration proposal??

2009-01-08 Thread Genie Z. Laborde
Hello Felicity,

I have recently learned of Coworking and find it fits right in with my
philosophy. I have written a book, Influencing with Integrity and it
presents the skills needed for people to work together with pleasure. It has
been translated into 7 languages, so lots of people like its ideas. One of
these is that if two people or groups are collaborating, the chances of success
are exponential. So even though I may have a coworking site in Palo Alto, I
hope we do not to view our sites as competitors. I am meeting tomorrow with
the owner of a coworking site in Concord. He wants to collaborate. This is
his idea. The more people who know about and are attracted to the concept of
coworking will produce more potential members for each of us.

Here are some ideas for you to consider once we know each other and start some
trust.

1. I teach a sales seminar, Selling and Influencing with Integrity that
has been taught at IBM, Chase Bank, HP, Wells Fargo, Intel, Dell, ATT, SBC,
Sprint, etc. and you could send your members at a 90% discounted price to our
publics. Sales skills are absolutely essential for small businesses. The 10%
covers the materials and hard costs. The next one is Feb 17 at our proposed
site. We are located at 235 Alma St. in Palo Alto.

2. If you run out of space, I would pay you a commission for people you send
who actually sign up for full or joint membership. .

2. Joint memberships where you and I split the fees. We are located right
across from the train station in Palo Alto and this might attract some train
commuters on some days.

3. I plan business presentations by some VC's I know personally and by some
other experts (Early Board Start Ups, branding professionals, investment
bankers, real estate, and mortgage experts ), etc. These would mostly be free.
 You could invite your members.

4. I do a live video cast each Wednesday from 11 to noon on various
relationship, conflict resolution, negotiation and decision making strategies
that your members might want to know about . These are free. I am open to
experts joining me for these.

5. I have access to an internet meeting site that is free and fun to use to
connect with far away groups. We could hold coworking sessions for as many as
wish to join us and have a microphone and/or a camera once a week or once a
month. This could pull in the coworking sites of people in Uruguay and Japan,
etc. We've had people from New Zealand and Australia just show up for these
sessions.

6. My seminar business is 25 years old so I have lots of contacts for
networking.

I would like to invite you or someone from your group to lunch the week of the
12th, and show you our real estate which is empty and ready to go. Give me a
call if you find this interesting.

Regards,
Genie Z. Laborde, Ph.D.

[Coworking] Re: Alcoholic Bev.

2009-01-08 Thread Matthew Wettergreen
Alot of us work as hard as we play and alcohol can be a part of that. The
considerations that should be made for alcohol in your space need to be that
of proactivity and safety. The proactive measures (as mentioned by Alex) are
to make sure that your insurance includes the ability to consume on
premises, and having a respectful community, both measures are some of the
basic tenants of a successful coworking space anyway.

A safety standpoint might not apply to most spaces depending on the size of
the coworking space, type of events held, number of those in attendance and
amount of alcohol consumed. Caroline Collective has held very large events
since opening, some have been composed of our tight knit respecting
community who watches out for each other. Others have been purely money
plays, with those in attendance looking to get free drinks and see a show.
If you are going to hold a large event with possible underagers in
attendance, make sure to at least give the impression that you're trying to
control the drinking by having someone ID at the door and either stamp or
use wristbands. We too have never sold alcohol due to the additional legal
issues that come with that (as mentioned by David). However, this doesn't
completely cover you so my recommendation would be to consider the type of
people who will be attending your events and refer back to the proactive
measures instead.
