[Coworking] Re: Rural Coworking?
Diversification of uses and programs is key. We had very similar motives for creating our space and as I'm sure you know, community support is very important, so outreach and a range of positively impacting programs that get people in the door and telling their friends is extremely valuable. Good luck! On Sep 2, 2:28 pm, Tony grogan...@gmail.com wrote: Thanks to all for the information. The area I am thinking of has approx. 8-9K population. We have quite a few summer residents/tourist traffic. I was thinking of a combination of coworking with a small coffee shop/wifi. Front for walkin customers and travelers needing wifi access. Middle for one timers/part timers/students. Back for coworking. I have several goals. One is a space and networking/ colaboration for my own business. One is to supplement the income of my main business. Provide a valuable service for our community. Provide a few jobs for our youth in the community. And last but not least is to bring economic development to our community. We have broadband available in some areas but is pretty expensive. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Coworking group. [Coworking] Re: A New Catalyst
Coming from a community building, non profit grass roots background I would say that if you know you are committed to this than go for it because getting your space up and running and building a community are challenging. More than that it is time consuming. Best suggestion is to document and observe and collect all your info. Open the space if you feel you are ready though... don't delay... because it does take time. Your thesis won't really help you get things off the ground frankly either... although it would be nice to have the info and (out of selfishness) would be interesting to see your thesis published for us all to read. Best of luck and please feel free to contact me directly. I have seen there are already several of them around (http://amsterdam.the-hub.net/public/, http://www.igluu.nl/, http://coworkingdenhaag.nl/), but I would like to make mine and perhaps also a bit different. A bit more rough and raw ;) The idea originated (and still is) the main topic of my Master-thesis from the Politecnico di Milano (Italy) hence my nickname Patrizio. I've studied there for four years and now I am back in the Netherlands to finish up my thesis and start a space. So apart from all my ideas and desire to start now. I have a question for the community, I wonder what you recommend me: a) finish thesis first or b) get this place up-and-running and do the thesis in parallel after all the thesis is about setting up the space.
