[Coworking] Did you start a successful rural or suburban coworking space (or are you a member at one)? This Quora question is looking for examples!
http://www.quora.com/Coworking/Are-there-any-successful-coworking-spaces-located-in-a-suburban-area-rather-than-within-the-city I know there are a bunch of folks on this list who are far more expert than me when it comes to rural/suburban coworking, so I wanted to share the above question to see if someone wanted to share their answers! If you've never answered a Quora question before, it's a pretty massive QA site where anyone can ask or answer a question, and then the original asker as well as other people can vote the best answers to the top. There's questions on all KINDS of topics, and the coworking QA section is pretty vast (once you get past all of the where's the best/cheapest/coolest place to cowork in city X). I've answered quite a few questions about coworking there already: http://www.quora.com/Alex-Hillman/answers HAPPY NEW YEAR :) -Alex -- Visit this forum on the web at http://discuss.coworking.com --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Coworking group. [Coworking] Coworking owner visiting SF coworking spots
Hi Folks! I own a new coworking space in Boston and seek to visit spaces while in SF this morning. Purpose is to get inspired, get advice on what works, and maybe even talk to owners or customers if allowed the opportunity. Any suggestions or introductions? I'm in Montgomery and Market right now and head to SFO at 12:30pm. Thanks!! [Coworking] Corporate Memberships
Hi All- I launched Society of Work http://www.societyofwork.com (SOW) in Chattanooga, TN in September of 2013. We've been pleased with our growth and have a lot in store for 2014! One of the things we are working on is partnering with local companies on memberships. More definitively, we have several incubators/venture capital groups who are out growing their space (who also happen to be in close proximity to us). We are talking with these groups about a type corporate membership (for lack of a better name at this point) where anyone from the incubator or company can work at SOW. They are able to give their employees a flexible way to work and contribute to SOW and we are hoping to learn from their businesses as well. We see it as a win-win. However, I am sort of stumped when it comes to a pricing model. There are also some larger corporations who have expressed interest in order to give their employees flexibility and freedom from their standard cubicle farms. I have thought through a couple of ideas, but I don't think I have come up with the right answer yet. Has anyone put together a pricing model for something like this? I have looked at several models, but I don't see anything comparable- but maybe it's just not listed on people's website? Any suggestions or recommendations would be helpful. [Coworking] Introducing: Core Values Discussions
Happy New Year! A lot happened in Barcelona at the last Coworking Europe conference. The day after the conference we held an all day Open Coworking Focus Group where we discussed what the group has achieved in the past two years, and where we want to go in the future. We talked a lot about all the possibilities and opportunities, and rallied around the understanding that the most important thing we can do is to keep the core values in the ongoing conversation about Coworking. The secret to Coworking's impact lies in its core values: Collaboration, Openness, Community, Accessibility Sustainability. During 2014, Open Coworking will host a series of talks with coworking managers and coworkers from around the world. *We will start with a session about Collaboration*, with coworkers and managers from Coworking Ontario and New Work City in New York. This will be a live global online broadcast on *Thursday, January 16 at 7:00pm EST*. We will discuss and debate what collaboration means to us, and we will share our experiences of collaboration between coworkers and coworking communities. Find out more details about this series at http://coworking.org/talks/ This is the first of many and there are many ways to participate. Host a local discussion in your space either live, or later when we get the talks posted. Email Tony Bacigalupo (t...@nwc.co) if you have ideas or want to participate in future broadcasts. Also let him know if you are hosting something locally, or blogging about this and we'll get it all up on the website. Thank you everyone! 2014 is already shaping up to be an amazing year. Re: [Coworking] Corporate Memberships
Hi. @BLANKSPACES, we see a shared, corporate account the same as an individual, especially since our reservation system allows sharing to be tracked. Our only consideration is how many rentable/reserveable areas they want to use. Therefore, if a few people share a desk, then pricing is just simply 1 desk, or 1 office, or whatever. [Coworking] Insurance
I have a bit of a weird insurance question. I'm helping out a hacker crew, friends of mine, since the company a majority of them worked for stopped paying them. Not folded and went under, just told them they wouldn't be getting paychecks, since they ran out of money. Oh, and if you take unemployment, you've quit and forfeited your job. Ignore this situation, they;ve got lawyers involved. What we're doing is forming an association, if you will. (It's not coworking, as we are geographically disparate) We're trading work, references, etc. We're trying to figure out how to do liability, umbrella, and EO insurance for a price low enough for people to buy in. I looked up PEO's (Professional Employment Organizations), but I don't think they fit the bill. I'm not asking a specific question, and for that, I apologize. I'm looking for some guidance or advice, if anyone has any. Thanks!!! Re: [Coworking] Insurance
Hi Joshua. A PEO is an interesting option that I've been exploring. Tri-Net is becoming popular among tech firms and several coworking spaces I know of in California. For what you describe, I like MBO Partners. You basically only pay your monthly fee when you generate revenue, so it's quite ideal for those who might ebb and flow. From what I understand, MBO is NOT ideal for people like me who are architects or other licensed-typed of professionals.
