[Coworking] Re: Coworking Community Building

2017-03-31 Thread Barbara Sprenger
Anmol, we work hard to create a balance -- enabling people who want to
"just work" to do so, and to provide opportunities for organic community
for those who will appreciate that. It's a delicate balance, but the
unifying factor for us is that most people live in the area, so they have
chosen a connection here. That said, we ensure that we can provide
appropriate space for lots of different uses to support community: in the
little town of Felton, CA where we started (we now have 7 sites) there is a
Monday night meditation group, Wednesday morning local business meetup,
Sunday, kids are babysat in our event space while a local church meets in
the bar next door (!) and we're the storefront for the local chamber of
commerce. (And did I mention that yesterday we had a big rollout with one
of our somewhat famous members releasing a long awaited game for which he
raised $650K in a Kickstarter -- from our little town and cowork center.)
The main thing that is important (at least to us) is that the members are
at the front, not us. We don't "curate", we simply help to remove obstacles
for them and foster connections.

[Coworking] Re: What does everyone use for checking users in?

2017-03-31 Thread Barbara Sprenger
Hi Mark,
We have a very simple automated wifi checkin system through Deskworks. We
provide the one piece of hardware, a firewall/router, that's pretty
inexpensive. Then the cloud-based radius server sees and knows your members
through the MAC address of their connected devices. The automatic checkin
does a few things: 1) you can see them on your dashboard (from anywhere!
While you're in the Bahamas!); 2) if they have day passes, it checks them
in and deducts the passes from their plan, then can charge them for any
extra time outside their plan; 3) gives you an access number for the day on
your dashboard for free passes; 4) sends people with reservations an access
number that's active for 1/2 hour before til 1/2 hour after reservations
for their guests. Oh, and the splash page lets walkins buy day passes
online, so you don't have to sign them in.

You don't have to reinvent the wheel or do a 3rd party integration on your
own.

Let me know if you want more info on it!

Barbara

Eric - do you have an automated system for having your members check in on
Nexudus, or do you do it manually?
